DAYTON MAN IS KILLED IN ACTION

According to the casualty list made public Saturday morning Harry C. Cahill is reported as having been killed in action in France recently. His emergency address is given in care of Mrs. Ollie B. Cahill, F.F.D. No. 10, Dayton. Rural Route No. 10 out of this city is in the Fort McKinley community, but inquiry brings the information that the parties are not know in that section. The mail box is given as No. 117.

Names of other Miami Valley soldiers carried on Saturday's casualty list as wounded severely are: Sergeant Nelson Pombles, whose emergency address is given in care of Mrs. Laura Pombles, 545 South Young street, Middletown; Private Howard Fox, Miamisburg, next of kin Mrs. Eda Fox, 305 Maple avenue.

The death of Mrs. Jane Cain, 77, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. Sterling, 307 East Herman avenue, Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. She leaves four children, C. H. Cain and Mrs. J. C. Vance of Greenville, A. V. Cain of Richmond, Ind., and Mrs. L. Sterling. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

OLDEST RESIDENT � TIMOTHY CALLAHAN, AGED 104 YEARS, DEAD

The death of Timothy Callahan, Dayton's oldest resident, and only centenarian, occurred last evening at 8:30 at the residence of his son, Mr. John Callahan, 210 North Wortman avenue. Mr. Callahan died of old age.

He had never been ill a day in his life with disease in any form. Of recent years, his extreme old age had incapacitated him, and while he had been confined to his bed for a short time, occasionally, it was not from the ravages of disease, but from physical weakness induced by old age. He was a remarkable specimen of manhood. He was temperate in all his habits, and lived an honest, upright life and so far as he knew, he had not an enemy in the world.

The deceased was born in County Limerick, Ireland, and came to America over 50 years ago, first residing in New Orleans. He lived there but a short time, when he came to Dayton, arriving here in 1860, taking up his residence at the present head of Wilkinson street. From there he moved to a farm west of the city, and lived there forty years, following the occupation of a farmer. His wife died 11 years ago, since which time he has resided with his children, spending most of his time at the home of his son John.

The funeral will take place Thursday morning from St. Joseph's church, and the remains will be interred at Calvary cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Ann Campbell, 64, of 113 McDaniel st., died at her home at 2 a. m. Tuesday. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Alice Campbell of Dayton and Mrs. James Mangan of Xenia; two sons, James of Los Angeles and Andrew of San Francisco; one grandson.

Edward D. Champine, 54, of 936 Palmerston av., died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at his residence.� Surviving are his wife, Geneva; two sons, Edward D. Jr., and Theodore R.; a daughter, Mrs. Albert Richards; five grandchildren; a brother, George, of New York, and a sister, Mrs. Grace Aull, Whittier, Cal.

Funeral services for Lewis Carey, 73, of 80 Green st., who died at 10 a.m. Saturday at his residence, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Charles Moore funeral home, 2206 E. Third st. Burial will be in Calvary Gospel cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Kniess; three brothers, Russell and Robert Carey of Dayton, and James Carey of Los Angeles, Cal.; eight nephews; three brothers and one sister.

DEATH CLAIMS JOHN CARPENTER
Well-Known Citizen Passes Away at His Home in North Main Street - Will Be Buried at Franklin

After an illness of several months, of which he was bedridden for three weeks, John L. Carpenter, aged 47 years, died Thursday morning at his home, 727 North Main street, from complication of diseases. Mr. Carpenter was well known in this city, having been shipping clerk for the E. C. Higgins Company for the past several years.

Born in Franklin, O., Mr. Carpenter passed most of his life in that village.

About twenty-five years ago he married Miss Dora Durst, a Franklin girl. Several years ago he was employed by the Globe Tobacco Company as traveling salesman, covering the southern part of Ohio, and was well known among tobacco dealers.

He is survived by two daughters, Miss Edith May, of this city, and Miss Harriet Pearl Carpenter, of Cincinnati; one son, David, of Franklin; one half sister, Miss Nan Carpenter, and his stepmother, Mrs. Jennie Carpenter, of Franklin. The many friends of Mr. Carpenter will be shocked to hear of his death, as it was unexpected.

The body was taken to Franklin, his former home. No date for the funeral has been set. The burial will be made in the Franklin cemetery.

Mrs. Myrtle D. Carpenter, 57, died Thursday at her residence, 2667 Hazel av. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Bartley, Bellbrook, and Mrs. Irene Lutz, Dayton; one nephew and one niece. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1:45 p.m. at the residence and at 2:30 p.m. at the Zimmerman Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery.

Mrs. Nettie Colburn Carr, 58, of 2608 Wayne av., died Tuesday at 3:10 a. m. at St. Elizabeth hospital following an operation performed Feb. 12. She is survived by her husband, Joseph W. Carr; two daughters, Miss Virginia F. Carr and Mrs. [remainder of article unreadable.]

Patrick Carroll, 85, died Friday at 2 p.m. at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. D. D. Bickham, 426 W. First st. He was born in Ireland in 1847 and settled in Dodson, near Brookville, in 1853 with his parents. Survived by his wife, Cecelia; his son, Riley, in Brookville; his granddaughter, Mrs. Orville Kreitzer; his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ryan, of Dayton, and his brother, Eugene Carroll, of Fostoria. Funeral Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the home of his son, 220 Hay av., Brookville. Burial in Pyrmont cemetery.

Remains of Philip Cart, 89, who died Monday afternoon, were laid to rest in Woodland cemetery Wednesday afternoon, following the funeral at 3 o'clock at the Trotwood Church of the Brethren.

Milton C. Cashour, 72, a Wayne tp. farmer for 44 years, died at 4:05 a.m. Friday at his residence at Sulphur Grove. He was a native and life resident of Montgomery county.

Surviving are his wife, Emma C.; a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Baldwin of R. R. 9, Dayton; a sister Miss Ann Cashour of Sulphur Grove. He was a native of Washington, C.H.

Mrs. Eva Cassell, 40, died suddenly at 1 p.m. Sunday at the residence, 2111 Rosemont blvd. The body was removed to Frank Riesinger's funeral parlors. She leaves her husband, Sidney; her daughter, Ella; two brothers, Dale and Ernest Cox, and her step-father, George Nolan.

EDWARD CAULFIELD FUNERAL MONDAY

Funeral services for Edward J. Caulfield, 65, of 2604 E. Fourth st., who died Thursday afternoon at Good Samaritan hospital, will be conducted Monday at 8:30 a.m. from the residence and at 9 a.m. at Holy Family church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

Formerly a teamster, he had lived in Shiloh for many years, but had been a resident and landscape gardener in Dayton for the past eight years. He was a member of the Holy Name society. He had been ill since Saturday with pneumonia.

Surviving are a son, Howard, two brothers, Francis, Westville, and Len, Detroit; five sisters, Mrs. Edward Dowd, Canton; Gertrude Caulfield, Washington, D.C.; Sister Agnes Josephine of the Sisters of Charity at Mt. St. Joseph, Cincinnati, and Agnes and Stella Caulfield, Dayton, and four grandchildren.

Worry Believed to Have Caused Death of Mrs. Caylor

Within the last six months John J. Naley of 38 N. Sperling av. has seen the death of his son and two sisters. Bernard J. Naley, 19, his son, died six months ago. He succumbed after a long illness. The youth was a student at the University of Dayton.

Mrs. Annie Caylor, 52, of 1778 Xenia av., Naley's sister, died Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. She is believed to have died as a result of worrying over the death of her sister, Mrs. Mary Ellen Simons, 58, of 1123 E. Second st., who died a week ago.

Funeral services for David Caylor, 62, who died at 8 p.m. Friday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Keough, 936 Schantz av., will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Keough residence. Burial will be made in Arlington cemetery. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Robert Keough and Mrs. William A. Brennan; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Medlan and Mrs. Lottie Michael, and a brother, S. L. Caylor.

Funeral services for David Caylor, 62, who died Friday at 8 p.m. were conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Keough, 936 Schantz av. Burial was in Arlington cemetery.

The funeral of Frank Chambers, a recluse living near Centerville, who took his own life Sunday by shooting himself, will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in Woodland chapel. He was 48 yeas old and was never married.

James M. Chancellor, 79, of 27 Holt street, died last night at 9:30 o'clock in his residence, following an illness of seven months' duration, the result of injuries received when he fell from a wagon at that time. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Mr. Chancellor was born in New Carlisle January 4, 1844. He resided in Dayton during the last 60 years. He was associated with the Fisk Sheet Metal works, East Third street. He also was a veteran of the Civil war.

He is survived by his wife, Eliza B., one son, H. J., and one daughter, Jennie W.

Mrs. Emma Jane Childers, 81, died Saturday at her residence, 2034 Brookline av., after an illness of several months. Mrs. Childers was a member of the South Park Methodist church. Surviving are one son, John L. Childers; three daughters, Mrs. Willia Rothacker, Mrs. C. C. Mullin of Dayton, and Mrs. C. K. Bell of Lexington, Ky., and three sisters, Mrs. George Martin of Hamilton, Tex., Mrs. Cordia Speer of Troy, and Mrs. Olive McGinnis of Grove City. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Schlientz and Moore funeral home, 1632 Wayne av., with the Rev. H. F. Kellog officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. HEART ATTACK IS FATAL TO FIRE CAPTAIN

Funeral services were being arranged Monday for Capt. Martin J. Clemens, 55, oldest captain in point of service in the Dayton fire department, who succumbed to a heart attack at 1:35 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth hospital. Captain Clemens was stricken at his home, 1741 Radcliffe rd., shortly after a late lunch, and was removed to the hospital at 11:45 p.m. Sunday.

Born in Cincinnati, he had resided in Dayton most of his life, coming here when about 10 years of age. He was appointed to the fire department, March 2, 1906, at the age of 21, being promoted to lieutenant eight years later. In 1916 he was made a captain, and had been stationed at engine company No. 13, Third st. and Euclid av., since that time.

The veteran fire-fighter had many escapes from death following his line of duty, his closest call being at the Dayton Handle Works fire, May 9, 1917, when he escaped electrocution only because the loose end of a high tension wire which his body had grounded snapped itself from his grasp, hurling his unconscious form to the ground. In 1918 he was forced to take a six months rest, when it was believed he had contracted tuberculosis, but recovered from his illness, and was placed on active duty again. In 1928 he received injuries in an explosion at the Summit Rubber Co., Third and Summit sts., when he was thrown into the street. Heat from the fire had melted gas pipes in the basement of the building, which resulted in an explosion. Capt. Clemens was struck in the eyes by a stream of water from an unwieldy hose while fighting a fire that swept the National Military Home laundry, early in 1932, and it was feared at the time he would lose his sight, but such was not the case, although it impaired his eyesight.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, of the Knights of St. John and of Corpus Christi church, and is survived by the widow, May; one daughter, Mrs. Bernie Ziehler and son, Roland.

Fire Chief Joseph A. Kirby Monday appointed Lieut. Leroy Rhoades to be temporarily in charge of Co. 13.

Funeral services for James Clemmer, 48, who died Monday at his late residence, 417 St. Paul avenue, will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late residence. Burial will be made in Beaver cemetery.

Benjamin D. Cloud, 67, of Indianapolis, died here Thursday at the Veterans Administration center. He was a veteran of World War I. Survivor: a daughter, Mrs. Donna I. Knight of Indianapolis.

Mrs. Anna M. Clymer, aged 76 years, died Friday at 6:45 pm at the home of her son, John, on the Fuis Road, R.R. 1, New Lebanon, following an illness of seven weeks.

She had been an active member of Emmanuel�s Lutheran Church, and for the past 20 years had resided in Germantown, moving here from the Carlisle Road, following the death of her husband, the late George Clymer.

Survivors besides the son, John, of New Lebanon, are two daughters, Mrs. Grace Kline, of Covington, and Mrs. May Brown of Dayton; two sisters, Miss Lillie Peterman and Mrs. Carrie Clymer and one brother, William Peterman and Mrs. Carrie Ulmer, all of R.R. 2, Germantown; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o�clock at Emmanuel�s Lutheran Church. Burial was made in the Germantown Cemetery.

Mrs. Carolyn Barbara Clymer, aged 82, died at 11:30 pm, Friday at her residence on the Township Line Road. She was the widow of the late Wm. H. Clymer and had lived in this vicinity for the past 16 years. Until her recent illness she was an active member of the Lutheran church.

Her survivors are a brother, William H. Peterman and a sister, Miss Lillie B. Peterman, with whom she made her home and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, at 2:30 pm at the Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul L. Bressler, officiating. Burial was made in the Germantown Cemetery.

Mrs. Amy Clutch, aged 86 years, died at the residence at May and Jersey streets and the burial will take place Tuesday afternoon from the residence at 1:30. She leaves a family of grown children.

CRASH FATAL TO DAYTONIAN

Chester Cobb, 35, Ohio hotel, was killed early Monday morning near Reynoldsburg, 12 miles east of Columbus, when the automobile in which he was riding was rammed by another automobile.

Cobb's death was caused by burns when the fuel tank on his car exploded after the collision.

Mrs. Thomas Little was badly burned about the face. Her husband and their four children were slightly injured. All are in Grant hospital, Columbus.

No details of the accident were received here, other than that the care in which Cobb was riding was being towed at the time of the crash.

The automobile belonged to M. L. Ward, 56 Jones st., Dayton. Little had taken the car to go to Clarksburg, W. Va., to bring to Dayton his wife and four children. Cobb accompanied him.

Little is crew manager in this territory for a magazine reading club and Cobb and Ward are employed as salesmen by the same organization. Cobb and Little had been living in Dayton about three weeks.

Cobb's body was taken to an undertaking establishment at Kirkersville.

Services for Mrs. Susan Kofroth Coblentz, 60 who died Saturday at her residence, 13 Bell st., will be conducted at [text unreadable] p. m. Tuesday at the Morris Sons funeral home 1809 E. Third st. Burial will be in Germantown cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p. m. Monday. Mrs. Coblentz was an employee in the contract files department of the procurement section at Wright-Patterson Air Force base since 1917.

The body of Miss Katherine Coblentz, who died Monday at Galion, O., was sent to Eldorado for burial, Tuesday. Burial was made in Eldorado. She was the daughter of Mrs. Mollie Coblentz, formerly of Westerville. She has relatives in Dayton. Two sisters survive.

Funeral services for Jessie Coburn, World War veteran, will be conducted in Medaryville, Ind., under the auspices of the American Legion. The body was sent to that city Sunday. Death occurred Saturday at the National Military Home.

Robert A. Coleman, 46, of Columbus, died here Tuesday at the Veterans Administration center. Survivor: mother, Blanche.

From the residence of his grandmother, Mrs. Retta Coll, 214 Warren street, the funeral of her little 3-year-old grandson, Robert Pearl Coll was held yesterday afternoon. The child died in her home, where he was sent because of the illness of his parents.

Mrs. Anna Gale Compton, 50, died Sunday morning at 12:10 o'clock in the Miami Valley hospital, after an operation. She leaves her husband, H. E. Compton, 1932 East Third street. She had been a resident of Dayton for several years. Funeral services were conducted last night in her late residence. The body will be sent to Williamsport this morning for burial.

Services for George W. Confer, 29, of Parkersburg, W.Va., who was killed when his auto collided with a bus at Nelsonville, O. Friday, will be conducted at the home of a sister, Mrs. Frank A. Lott, 414 Irving av., at 2:30 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Cedarville.

Confer, a former Daytonian, last year was transferred to the West Virginia territory of the Dayton Display Fixture Co., of which he was a salesman.

Other survivors include his widow, Marian; a daughter, Joyce Ann; the father, Howard T. Confer, of Los Angeles, and two brothers, Harold, of Freeport, L.I., and Stanley, of Dayton.

Mrs. H. L. Conover, of Coventry rd., has received word of the sudden death at 3 a.m. Saturday of her mother-in-law, Mrs. Ralph Conover of Terre Haute, Ind. Besides Mrs. Conover, she is survived by a granddaughter in Dayton, Mrs. Harold Gaskill. Mrs. Conover and Mrs. Gaskill will attend the services Tuesday afternoon in Terre Haute.

At the Central Branch, National Home for D.V.S., on November 13th, John Conyers, aged 100 years, late of War of 1812. Cause of death, old age.

DEATH OF ANDREW S. COOPER

Mr. Andrew S. Cooper, who was for many years connected with the post office of our city, died yesterday morning at his home, No. 340 West Monument avenue. While Mr. Cooper has not enjoyed good health for some time, his death will be a surprise to his many friends and acquaintances.

Mr. Cooper came to Dayton thirty years ago from Hamilton, Ohio, and has made Dayton his home ever since. His wife and six children are left to mourn the loss of husband and father. His children are Thomas R. Cooper, of Pittsburg, Andrew, of New York city, Ella, who is a teacher in our public schools, Mary, teaching at Carrolton, O., Althia, whose home is in Indiana, and Laura, who resides at home.

Mrs. Eleanora Schurr Cooper, 30, wife of James H. Cooper, 300 S. Williams st., died at 3:30 Thursday morning at her residence, following an illness of seven months. She leaves her husband; her father, Samuel Schurr; her sister, Miss Alma Schurr, and her brother, Charles Schurr, of Greenville. The remains will be taken to Sidney for burial Saturday morning.

Word has been received of the death of H. R. Cooper, Los Angeles, former secretary of the Dayton Gas Company, in Cairo, Egypt, January 9. Mr. Cooper served with the local company for two years, 1910-1912.

The body will be brought to Cincinnati, where funeral and burial services will be conducted at a time to be announced later.

Funeral services for Brother Charles Coors, 28, who died Monday night at St. Elizabeth hospital, will be conducted Thursday morning at Mt. St. John chapel. Burial will be in the university cemetery.

Brother Coors was graduated with honors from Mount St. John normal school on the Shakertown pike, and the following September began his teaching in the Holy Trinity school for boys in Brooklyn. He taught there five years when he was forced to retire on account of ill health. He returned to Dayton and has been a patient at St. Elizabeth hospital since that time. He was widely known here, having come to the University of Dayton and entered the preparatory department when he was 14 years of age. He leaves his mother, Mrs. Mary Coors; his sister, Clara, and his brother, Joseph.

Services for Harry H. Cotrell, aged 54, owner of the Western Tobacco Co., of Bradford, and formerly of Germantown, who died at 2:00 pm Thursday at his home in Piqua, were conducted at 2:00 pm Sunday at the Congregational Christian Church in Piqua. Burial was made in Forest Hill Cemetery. Mr. Cotrell was well known in Germantown by tobacco men and many farmers in the community.

WILL BURY AGED WOMAN MONDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Evelena Stoker Cotterman, 83, who died Saturday at the home of her son-in-law, Albert Gray, Shelby, will be held Monday.

The services will be conducted by the Rev. I. O. Moser at the home of Mrs. Cotterman's daughter, Mrs. R. F. Shuman, 127 Campbell street, at 9 o'clock.

Burial will be in Beaver cemetery.

Mrs. Leonora Cotterman, aged 40 years, and the wife of George H. Cotterman, residing at ? Orchard street, dropped dead Saturday afternoon about 5 o'clock while in the garden with her daughter gathering some vegetables. Without any outcry she pitched forward and died. Dr. Kline was called and he stated that death was due to cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. Cottermann was well known and a host of friends were shocked to learn of her death. The funeral will take place Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock and at 10 o'clock services will be held at the English Lutheran church, corner Broadway and Germantown street. The burial will be at Wooden cemetery, six miles west of the city.

Mrs. Sophia Cotterman, 74, died at her residence, 3225 Ridge av., at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Surviving are her son, W. W. Hofferbert, Dayton, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the residence. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

MRS. J. B. COUCH DEAD; HUSBAND IN SIBERIA

Mrs. J. B. Couch, formerly Margaret Feldmaier, formerly of Dayton, died at her home in Troy, Tuesday, after an illness of several months. She was born July 23, 1871, and was the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Frederick Feldmaier, of Dayton. She married J. B. Couch in 1892. After a few years in Dayton, the family removed to Troy 12 years ago. She belonged to the English Lutheran church and the Ladies' Aid society.

She leaves her husband, J. B. Couch, who is entertaining the American forces in Siberia under the direction of the Y.M.C.A.; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Horner, of Dayton, and Margaret; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Feldmaier, of Dayton, and two brothers, Charles and William.

The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Goodrich, West Water street, Rev. H. L. Meister officiating. Burial will be made in Riverside cemetery.

RESIDENT HERE 30 YEARS DIES

Mrs. Frances Couden, 79, a resident of Dayton for 30 years, died at the residence, 2313 E. Fifth st., at 1 p.m. Monday. She had been in failing health in recent years.

Mrs. Couden was the widow of Oscan Couden who died in 1921. She was born in Cincinnati and lived for years on a farm at Morrow, O. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. O. J. Paul, Mrs. O. A. Miller and Mrs. Mary Saum; two grandchildren and two treat-grandchildren. Donald W. Saum, advertising salesman for the Dayton Daily News is a grandson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Whitmer Bros. funeral parlors. Rev. John J. Schaeffer will officiate. Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery.

John Cox, 65, died at 6:10 a.m., Monday at his residence, Rural Route No. 9, Valley pike. Surviving him are two sons, Claude and Clarence; and two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie McGee and Mrs. Anna Franklin, both of Spiceland, Ind., and four grandchildren.

Funeral services for John Franklin Coy, 74, who died at 4:30 a.m. Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Van Harlingen, 1839 Huffman av., were conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Van Harlingen residence and at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Reformed church. Burial was in Beavertown cemetery.

Mrs. Emma R. Crabb, 75, was found dead in bed at the home of her son, William Crabb, 2348 Rugby rd., Sunday morning by her son. Dr. H. W. Harris, coroner, reported death was due to natural causes. Besides he son she is survived by two grandchildren. The body was sent to Cambridge City, Ind., the place of her birth, for funeral services and burial.

Mrs. Nora J. Cramer, 86, 3905 Detroit Ave., died Tuesday at the Rust Nursing home, Eaton.

AGED BANKER TO BE LAID TO REST IN WOODLAND

Funeral services for John W. Craven, who died yesterday morning at Miami Valley hospital, will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at his late residence, 550 Superior avenue. Burial in Woodland cemetery. Two sons, James M. and W. R. Craven, survive. The former is principal of the Huffman school and the latter is president of the Dayton Savings and Trust company.

John W. Craven had been a Dayton resident since 1866. In 1904 he became connected with the Dayton Savings and Trust Company and retired only four years ago.

Funeral services for Thomas D. Cravens, 10, of 1302 Phillips av., whose death occurred Wednesday, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the residence. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery. Friends may call at the residence until time of service.

Vandalia, Oct. 21. � The man who as a lad of 20 spent the last three months of the Civil war in a Confederate prison, died at the home of a son, William. The thin blue line of the boys who fought to save the Union was severed in Montgomery county today with the death of James Craver, 101 North Dixie drive. Mr. Carver was born March 1, 1845, two miles north of Tipp City. He enlisted in the Eighth Ohio cavalry at 19 and was captured in January, 1865, in a raid near Charleston, S. C.

A teamster until he retired several years ago, Mr. Carver was a charter member of the Vandalia Odd Fellows lodge, founded more than 70 years ago. In Fair Health � He presided at a small birthday party this year and was visited by representatives of Vandalia veterans� organization, who each year honored him as he neared and reached the century mark.

Members of his family said today that he had been in fair health considering his age until last week.

Other survivors include five grandchildren, Alfred Carver, Peters pike; Lester Carver and Alberta C. Smith, Vandalia; Walter Jennings, Leipsic, O., and Gladys Phillips, Indianapolis; seven great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Brethren church here with Rev. E. L. Linebaugh officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Hills cemetery, Vandalia. Friends may call at the Morton funeral home here after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

At the Central Branch, National Home for D.V.S., May 31st, 1892, Daniel A. Crawford, late of Company G, 71st Regiment Ohio. Cause of death, gangrene of stump after amputation.

Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock the funeral of Mrs. Beatrice Creagar will be held at the residence, 11 East Herman avenue. Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery.

At his home, one mile northeast of Utica, Warren County, O., October 31, 1884, at 9:30 a.m. George W. Creager, of typhoid fever. The deceased was born August 29, 1855, in Washington Township, Montgomery County, Ohio, on the farm where his father, John O. Creager, now resides, three miles north of Centerville, on the Dayton pike. His remains were taken by the undertaker, Walter Zell, of Waynesville, to the parents' home, November 7, where a funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. David Winters, of Dayton, O., after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near his father's residence. The deceased left a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his untimely death, and a young wife and infant son who will mourn the kind and loving husband and father. His honesty, uprightness and courteousness won the esteem of all who knew him. May He who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb watch over the young mother and her little Carl, and bless them with the comforting assurance that He will be a father to the fatherless and a present help in time of trouble.

Walen Creech, 12, died at St. Elizabeth hospital Thursday morning. Funeral will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock at Smith and West's undertaking establishment. Burial in Pine Ridge, Ky. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Creech, 14 Council street.

DEATH OF A PIONEER WOMAN

Anna Crook, wife of the venerable Thomas Crook, of Wayne township, Montgomery county, died January 5th, 1875 of consumption. She was buried at the Lower Stillwater Christian Church, on the 7th inst. Funeral services by Elders H. Y. Rush and Wm. Jay. The sermon delivered by Elder Rush, from a text chosen by herself, was "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord", and a hymn was sung of her own choice: "Jerusalem my Happy Home." Mrs. Crook had given all the necessary directions concerning her funeral. She was born in Monroe county, Virginia, on the 14th of October, 1805, and came to this county with her father, John Gallahan, and family, in 1810. She settled in the woods on the place now owned by Davis Waymire, of Butler Township, and lived there with her father until his death, which occurred in 1812. She united with the lower Stillwater Christian Church at the age of 16, under the preaching of John Plummer and Elder Schideler, who organized this old pioneer church nearly 70 years ago. She was baptized by Elder Plummer and lived a worthy member of the church for about fifty-three years, and was the last and oldest member of the church that then existed. All her companions have gone before her. She was married to the venerable Thomas Crook on her fortieth birth-day, and lived happily with him for more than 29 years. She leaves him feeble and lonely, and one surviving sister, of his father's family, to mourn as none others can mourn. Thus ended the life of a good mother in Israel at the ripe old age of 69 years, two months and 21 days. H. Waymire

MAN HIT BY TRAIN DIES AT HOSPITAL

John Cummins, 53, of 1605 East Second street, employed by the C. H. and D. railroad, was struck by a west-bound Big Four passenger train at Wyandot and Shawnee streets late Saturday afternoon sustaining a fracture of the skull, which caused his death at 7:15 Sunday morning at Miami Valley hospital.

Cummins was a helper in the railroad freight office and was walking along the tracks carrying mail. According to witnesses, Cummins became confused when a freight train passed and stepped in front of the passenger train. His body was thrown along the track ahead of the engine and fell beside the rail, where his head struck the oil boxes on the axles.

Mary A. Cunningham, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. died Tuesday at her residence, 3020 Hoover av., following a 15-month illness. She was 78. A Dayton resident for 66 years, Mrs. Cunningham was a member of the Church of Resurrection, St. Catherine Altar society, St. Joseph's Orphanage society and the Third Order of St. Domini. She was the widow of Patrick A. Cunningham and is survived by a son, Paul Jr., two daughters, Mrs. Corrine Haller of Dayton and Mrs. Genevieve M. Ralls of Winchester, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Katie Burbridge and Mrs. Margaret Shade, both of Dayton, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the residence and 9 a.m. in Resurrection church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Friends may call at the residence after 7 p.m. Thursday.

James F. Curry, 57 years old, died Friday morning at 11:25. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence, 62 Fremont avenue. Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery.

The funeral of Charles A. Curtis, 55, traveling salesman who was killed by an automobile Saturday, was held Wednesday afternoon at the family residence in Shiloh. Burial was in Fidelity.

TUMBLES FROM BRIDGE INTO RIVER, DROWNS
Henry Harrison Curtis, 18, Meets Death While Playing

TROY, June 1 - Henry Harrison Curtis, 18, was drowned in Stillwater river near Fidelity Wednesday afternoon about 4 o'clock when he fell from a pier of the Prairie Ford bridge. He was in the water about 50 minutes before the body was located.

Curtis, with his brother, Byron, and four other boys, Ralph Wheelock, Roy, Vernon Thuma, and Dale Snell had been fishing. He was standing on the middle pier when he slipped and fell into the river at a place where the water was from 12 to 15 feet deep. Coroner Brower was called Thursday afternoon from Troy and after an inquest pronounced death due to accidental drowning.

It is believed the young men had become tired of fishing and were throwing mud balls when the accident happened. The young man leaves his father, George Curtis and two sisters, Frances, who lives at home, and Mrs. Carrie Shaw of Laura, and the brother, Byron. The funeral will be held Saturday.

Funeral services of Andrew W. Curtner, who died Monday at his residence, 817 Stillwater avenue, will be held Wednesday morning at eight o'clock at the house, further services being held at the chapel at Abbottsville. Interment will be made in Abbottsville.

He was a Civil War veteran. He was born in Little York and lived there most of his life up to the time that he came to Dayton about four years ago. He is survived by four children, Calvin C. Curtner, Mrs. Anna Brown, Forest C. Curtner of Arcanum, and Mrs. R. O. Johnson. There are besides fourteen grandchildren living.
