One of Dayton's Pioneer Citizens Dies in Portland, Ind.

The Portland Weekly Commercial, of Indiana, contains the news of the death of an old pioneer citizen of Dayton:

David Clark Baker, (son of Aaron and Hannah Baker) was born at Dayton, Ohio, April 14, 1808, died at his home in Portland, Ind., Saturday, December 20�3 o'clock p.m.�1884, aged 76 years, 8 months and 6 days.

David C. Baker had a deep love for his old Dayton home, and the associations that clustered around the scenes of his earlier days. It is said he was the oldest, at the date of his death, of the male citizens born in the corporate limits of Dayton, the old town as it stood in 1808.

As to his public services at sixteen, he was Deputy Clerk of Montgomery County, under Charles R. Greene, a man he revered as a father, and of whom he never spoke without deep feeling. Mr. Greene and his noble wife were as a father and mother to him�he had lost his mother when he was twelve years old. So much did he respect them that a son and daughter, both dead long ago, were named in honor of them. He delighted to speak of his old associates, of his boyhood when he was Deputy Clerk. Many prominent lawyers, now nearly all departed, were then conspicuous at the Dayton bar; have heard him speak of them in praise, such men as Thomas Corwin, Robert C. Schenck, Joseph H. Crane, Peter Odlin, John W. Van Cleve, Charles Anderson, J. U. McNutt and many others. After being with Mr. Greene, Clerk of the Courts for a long period, soon after he was twenty-one years old, the County Commissioners of Montgomery County solicited him to accept the office of County Auditor. They appointed him to fill out the unexpired term of the deceased Auditor. The people afterwards ratified the appointment of the Commissioners by electing and re-electing him Auditor.

His skill as a penman and draughtsman was known to able men throughout Ohio, who had tormed [sic] his acquaintance and at the close of his last term as Auditor, by their influence, and unsought on his part, they obtained for him a lucrative place in the General Land Office Department at Washington. The position was tendered to him and was declined, as he did not wish to leave Dayton. For several years his private business affairs�he owned considerable realty in and adjacent to Dayton�took up his time, though at the desire of the people he served them for some years as Justice of the Peace.

In 1847 he moved from Dayton to New Carlisle, Clarke County, O., and invested in mills and other property. Dayton had no railroad then; first road from Springfield was soon after completed. The move from Dayton and selling off his large property interests in and around Dayton, just before a great rise in value of realty in consequence of her first railroad and other roads being constructed proved unfortunate. There were very few property holder holders about Dayton in 1846-47 that owned more valuable realty in and adjacent to the city. He lost it with 1,040 acres of land not far from St. Louis in connection with the mills, grain business, etc., in Clark and Miami Counties, doing the best he could and saving out of the wreck of 160 acres in Jan County, Ind., 100 acres in Adams County, and 80 acres near Union City, Ind. Of these lands he lost 24 acres in helping to try to get the first railroad from Union City to Portland and Fort Wayne.

In April of 1853 he settled at Portland, where he has since lived, an honored and esteemed citizen. He served in Jay County as Justice of Peace, Deputy Clerk and Clerk of Courts. In Portland by his industry he again became comparatively wealthy and in his will provided equally for each of his children.

He was married to Sarah S. Van Cleve, his first wife, by the Rev. David Winters, at Dayton, O., February 11, 1830. By her he had two daughters and two sons. One son and the two daughters are yet living. His first wife died on their farm near Dayton, October 18, 1839, her remains with that of her infant son, rest in the Van Cleve lot in Woodland Cemetery at Dayton. She was the youngest child of Benj. Van Cleve, the first Clerk of Montgomery County, and sister of John W. Van Cleve, the founder of Woodland Cemetery, and first white male child born in Dayton. On February 11, 1840, by Rev. David Whitcomb, he was united in marriage at Dayton, O., to Sophia Sorbray, his present widow, the fourth daughter of Wm. And Margaret Sorbray, early settlers of Dayton. By her he had seven children, three (two sons and one daughter) of whom are yet living. He shows the feeling and love held for his wife�and now widow�by the affection with which he refers to her in two clauses of his last will. His remains, followed by family, and friends, were interred in the burial ground at Portland, on Tuesday, December 23, 1884. By his death the public lost a good citizen, his wife lost an affectionate husband, his children lost one of the kindest and best of fathers. God bless his memory!

Mrs. Emma W. Baker, wife of John W. Baker, died Monday evening at 8:15 o'clock at the residence, 1728 Chapel street. She passed away after almost a year of patient suffering.

She was born in Dayton, December 2, 1862, and had spent all her life here. She had a cheerful disposition, and was loved by all who knew her. She leaves her husband, John W. Baker, and three daughters, Estella, Florence and Ruth Baker; one brother, A. C. Heil, and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Heil Kiser and Mrs. A. F. Euchenhofer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the residence. Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery.

On the 12th inst., at his residence on Fifth street, Dayton, John G. Baker, of pulmonary consumption, in the 51st year of his age.

He feared God and died in peace.

Funeral services in Raper Chapel, on Tuesday at 10 A. M., in English by Rev. L. F. Van Ckerem and in German by Rev. E. Wunderlich.

Funeral services for Mrs. Leona Baker, 24, of 124 Edison st., who died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the residence. Burial will be in Willowview cemetery. She leaves her husband, father, three sisters and two brothers.

The funeral of Ferdinand M. Balonier, who died Thursday, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence, corner of Burkhardt avenue and Smithville road, and the remains will be interred in Woodland cemetery.

The deceased was a well-known carpenter of the eastern part of the city, where he had lived for a long time. Some years ago, however, he fell ill with dropsy, and this was the direct cause of his death. He is survived by his widow, a daughter and two step-sons.

Balonier, who died Thursday, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence, corner of Burkhardt avenue and Smithville road, and the remains will be interred in Woodland cemetery. The deceased was a well-known carpenter of the eastern part of the city, where he had lived for a long time. Some years ago, however, he fell ill with dropsy, and this was the direct cause of his death. He is survived by his widow, a daughter and two step-sons.

On Friday morning, March 8, at 9 o�clock at the residence of her son, Michael Bangert, 378 Quitman street, Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Bangert, aged 78 years. Funeral will take place from the residence of her son Sunday, March 19, at 2 o�clock p.m. Services at the house.

John J. Barcus, 43, of 267 Grove st., died at his residence at 12 p.m. Tuesday after a four month illness. Born in Lithuania, he lived in Dayton for 33 years and was a metal finisher at Frigidaire for 20 years. Surviving are his wife, Amelia; his mother, Ellen; a son, John Barcus, seaman first class of the Navy; three brothers, Anthony Barcus, Frank and Joseph Ambrose, and two sisters, Mrs. James Gudeles and Mrs. Mary Clark.

DR. W. T. BARGER, REFUGEES' FRIEND IS NOW AT REST

Sidney, June 2 - Funeral services of Dr. W. T. Barger, 53, Cleveland, were held from the home of his mother, Mrs. Etna Barger, on Lane st. Rev. Dr. E. E. Roberts of the First M. E. church of this city was in charge of the service. Interment was made at Graceland.

Dr. Barger, who was a former resident of this city, is survived by his two children, Wilson Barger of Ithica, N.Y., and Mrs. Burrows Barstow of Cleveland. His mother who resides here, two brothers, Bonar Barger of Bellefontaine, and A. O. Barger of Hardin, this county; two sisters, Mrs. A. Wells of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Pearl Buress of this city.

He became actively identified with Red Cross Relief work in Siberia at the close of the World War and in 1918 and 1919 had charge of the removal of thousands of refugee children from Siberia, Finland and Poland to this county. After completing this work, he entered the American Relief Hospital at Paris in the early part of 1920, where he was stationed for more than two years, until forced to retire because of ill health in March, 1922.

Mr. Barkalow is survived by his wife, Brenda; two sons, Alvadore Barkalow of Miamisburg and Robert Barkalow of Carlisle; three daughters, Daisy Abston of Oakridge, Tenn., Patty Laird of Dayton, and Kathleen Landis of Fairborn; four brothers, Ernest of Miamisburg, Ralph of Trotwood, Omer of Cincinnati and Harold of Lindon, Ohio; three sisters, Bertha Dennison of Troy, Helen Barkalow and Gladys Parlett, both of Miamisburg; and twelve grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Unglesby Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. John Swint officiating. Burial was at Hillgrove Cemetery, Miamisburg.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (today) at the Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton, for Mrs. Dorothy D. Barkalow, age 52 of 7857 Germantown Pike, Germantown. Mrs. Barkalow was dead on arrival at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Sunday morning.

Mrs. Barkalow is survived by her husband, Alvadore H. Barkalow; two sons, Alvadore W. Barkalow of Miamisburg and Robert E. Barkalow of Carlisle; three daughters, Daisy Arlene Abston of Rockwood, Tennessee, Patricia Ruth Barkalow of Dayton, and Kathleen Helen Landis of Fairborn; her father, Walter Stupp of Miamisburg; one brother, Robert E. Stupp of Miamisburg; two sisters, Evelyn Jones of Franklin and Ruth Stupp of Miamisburg; and 13 grandchildren.

Pastor John Keithly officiated at the services and burial was at Hillgrove Cemetery.

Ernest I. Barkalow, 80, of Miamisburg passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006 at Kingston of Miamisburg.

Ernest was born Feb. 16, 1926 in Miami Township to the late Irwin and Mariba (Phillips) Barkalow. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Mariba; three sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Stebel) Barkalow; two sons, Michael (Debbie) Barkalow of Farmersville and Martin (Amy) Barkalow of Miamisburg; two daughters, Miriam (Jim) Stuck of Kettering and Marylin (Mike) Scholl of Miamisburg; one brother, Omer (Norma) Barkalow of Cincinnati, grandchildren, Adam and Zachery Scholl, Wesley and Shawn Barkalow, Jennifer and Wayne Jackson, Kristy and Brain Bannon; great-grandchildren, Courtney Pressel, Aaron and Peyton Jackson, Kyle and Jordan Bannon.

Ernest was a 1944 graduate of Miamisburg High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Visitation was Nov. 26 at the Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home in Miamisburg. Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, Nov 27 at the funeral home. Burial followed at Miamisburg Catholic Cemetery.

Funeral services for Henry Eugene Barney, 69, paving contractor, who died Thursday night at the residence, 1233 Huffman av., will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the house. Burial will be in Beavertown cemetery.

He was the son of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth Barney and was a resident of Greene co. before removing to Dayton 26 years ago.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Mary Barney; two daughters, Mrs. Harvey Henderson and Miss Sarah Edna Barney; three sons, Clyde Ernest, Benjamin Eugene and Harry Edward Barney; 21 grandchildren, a great-grandchild and a sister, Mrs. O. K. Snyder. One daughter, Mrs. Ruth Helen Anewalt, preceded him in death.

He was the brother of John W. H. Barney and Mrs. John W. Prugh, who preceded him in death, and Mrs. O. K. Snyder of Dayton.

In Greene co he was engaged in farming and grain threshing for several years. He belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose.

Mrs. Catherine Barr, 87, widow of Abraham Barr, died Friday morning at 1:30 o'clock at the residence near Sulphur Grove. She was ill about six years before her death. She was born near Fairfield and lived there until her removal to Sulphur Grove 20 years ago. Her husband, Abraham Barr, who died 15 years ago, was a farmer.

She leaves nine children, Forrest, Amos and L. M. Barr, of California; Charles W., of the Valley pike; Russell of Ft. McKinley; Mrs. William Sharp, of near Brandt; Miss Oleva Barr, of Sulphur Grove, and Mrs. Venatta Haines, of Valley st., and John. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence, and burial will be made in Fairfield.

Funeral rites for Anthony J. Barran, 44, who died Sunday at 7:50 p. m. at the National Military home will be held Wednesday at 3:30 P. M. at the late residence in Osborn. Burial will be made in Fairview. He served in the navy for 28 years; was a recruiting officer in this city for 2 years and was captain of the U. S. N. Ontario during the World War. JOHN BAUER PASSES AWAY AT HOSPITAL
Well Known German Citizen Succumbs After Long Illness

The death of John Bauer, aged 64, occurred at the St. Elizabeth's hospital Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, following an extended illness. He had been ill for almost six months, but was supposed to be on the road to recovery until March 25, when it became necessary to remove him to the hospital. He had a relapse Monday afternoon and died a short time later.

Mr. Bauer had lived in Dayton about 31 years, having come here from Bavaria, Germany, where he was born and reared. During the past 25 years he had been employed in the cabinet department of the Barney & Smith Car works, most of that time as chief cabinetmaker. During the past few years he had lived a retired life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. J. Zink, 40 Dover street. Throughout all his residence in Dayton Mr. Bauer lived in the southeastern part of the city, where he was widely and favorably known.

He had been a member of St. Mary's church for almost 30 years and was affiliated with various Catholic organizations.

Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. D. J. Zink, Misses Josephine and Margaret Bauer, and three sons, Michael Bauer, John Bauer, chief gunner on the U.S.S. Preble, and Carl Bauer, reporter on the Herald.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 8 o'clock from the residence of his daughter, and at 8:30 at St. Mary's church. Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery.

Funeral services for Mabel Catherine Batdorf, 32, who died Sunday morning at St. Elizabeth hospital, will be conducted at her late residence Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Mennonite cemetery at Medway. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Batdorf, of Kemp rd., east of Dayton, and besides her parents, is survived by two brothers, Victor and Paul at home, and two sisters, Florence at home, and Mrs. Wilma Davting of Byron, Ohio.

Funeral services of Mrs. Julia Bates, 82, 62 Samuel st., who died Wednesday evening at Miami Valley hospital will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at Frank Riesinger's funeral parlors. Burial will be in Lebanon. She died Wednesday evening at Miami Valley Hospital after the machine in which she was driving was struck by another on the Dayton and Lebanon pike.

Cecil H. Baughn, 51, of 500 Golfview av., died at 11 p.m. Friday at the Veterans hospital in Marion, Ind., following a lengthy illness. Born in Washington C. H., Mr. Baughn lived in Dayton most of his life and was a World War I veteran. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lillian Baughn; a sister, Mrs. LaRuth Ehrhard, and a nephew, Buddy B. Sauer, all of Dayton.

REV. BAUM IS TO BE BURIED ON THURSDAY
Pastor Of Hope Lutheran Church 40 Years Dies After Stroke

The body of Rev. M. L. Baum, 67, for more than 40 years pastor of the Hope Evangelical Lutheran church, Hickory and Perrine sts., will lie in state at the church from 7:30 Wednesday evening until Thursday noon. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Thursday afternoon at the church. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

Rev. W. A. Poovey, pastor of Hope church, will officiate with the assistance of Rev. Oscar T. S. Tressler of Richmond, Ind.

Pallbearers will include Robert Deckwith, Harvey Dressler, John Apple, LeGrande Caldwell and Louis Kuhlman.

Rev. Baumn's death occurred Tuesday afternoon at his residence as the result of a stroke of paralysis he suffered last Saturday.

During his ministry, devoted wholly to the one pastorate, Rev. Baum confirmed 720 persons and received into the church 1130 persons. He united in marriage 522 couples and officiated at 520 burials.

On Sunday afternoon he was in the habit of conducting services at Zion Lutheran church on the Cincinnati pike, besides looking after the manifold affairs of his own charge.

Hope Lutheran church, which he organized April 8, 1883, was first a crude structure on the corner of E. Fourth and Commercial sts. This building is now used as a garage. The next home of the church was a frame building located on the present site at Hickory and Perrine sts. The new church was completed in 1902 and is a structure that is a credit to the congregation and a real addition to the neighborhood.

Rev. Baum's birth occurred at St. Paul, Pickaway co., O., Nov. 27, 1957 . He was reared on a farm, performing all the chores of farm boys and hardening and toughening himself physically for the holy life which he adapted later. Following his graduation from Capitol university at Columbus he taught a year, then entered the theological seminary in 1881 where he completed his course in March, 1883. His ministry here began in April of the same year.

His health apparently was unaffected by the long and arduous days which he devoted to his charge and to his communicants. But he was never quite so well since he suffered an illness of influenza in 1918. After spending several weeks in the south he resumed his duties as pastor and was able to round out his 40 years. He retired April 8, 1923, entirely at his own volition and to the regret of the trustees and his congregation. Rev. W. A. Poovey, the present pastor, was named his successor.

Rev. Otto Mees, president of Capitol university, was the principal speaker at the special service honoring Rev. Baum which was held the Sunday following his retirement.

Rev. Baum lived at Fifth and Labelle sts. When he first came to Dayton; then removed to 213 Xenia av. And in 1890 moved into his own home at 45 Perrine st., where he had lived ever since.

His marriage to Miss Nannie E. Shook of Port Clinton occurred April 12, 1887. She survives, together with his daughter, Mrs. Vera Tosca, Old Orchard, Maine, four brothers and his sister.

MRS. DAVID BAVER IS BURIED HERE
SIXTY-TWO YEARS OF HAPPY MARRIED LIFE ARE BROUGHT TO END ON SUNDAY

Hardening of the arteries resulted in the death of Mrs. Louisa Baver, aged 81 years, wife of David Baver, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elwood Stamm on the Springboro road, southeast of Miamisburg about one o'clock Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Baver was born February 7, 1849. This year Mr. and Mrs. Baver observed their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Baver is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Stamm and Mrs. Charles Early, southeast of Miamisburg; three sons, Amos, east of Alexandersville, Charles, east of Miamisburg and Harry of Miamisburg.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon from Stamm residence and at 2 o'clock from the St. John's Lutheran church, east of Miamisburg. Rev. H. C. Ter Vehn, pastor of the West Carrollton Lutheran church officiated. Interment was made in Hillgrove cemetery.

HAD BEEN LIFE LONG RESIDENT OF THIS VICINITY

Funeral services for David Cain Baver, 88, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elwood Stamm, east of this city, will be held from the residence Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and from the St. John's Lutheran church at two o'clock. Rev. C. W. Cassel, pastor of the West Carrollton Lutheran church, will officiate and burial will be in Hill Grove cemetery.

Mr. Baver's death occurred Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock after two week's illness with pneumonia and hardening of the arteries. For many years he was a well-known farmer residing on the Springboro road, but following the death of his wife, Louise, in 1930, he had made his home with his daughter and his son, Charles. Throughout the community he was familiarly known as "Grandpa" Baver. He was born October 14, 1844, east of Miamisburg and resided his entire life in that vicinity. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church.

He leaves three sons and a daughter, Charles Baver, east of this city, Amos Baver, of near Alexandersville, Harry Baver, of this city and Mrs. Louise Stamm. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Services for T. Albert Beck, 93, of 69 W. Hudson Ave., former farmer and businessman in Montgomery and Miami counties, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Hale-Sarver Funeral home, West Milton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today. Burial will be in Arlington cemetery near Brookville.

Mr. Beck died at 2:30 p.m. yesterday at the residence. He was the last of a pioneer family in the Polk Grove area near Vandalia and had operated farms in the Pyrmont-Brookville and Troy and West Milton areas. He also had been a hardware dealer at Phillipsburg and was a former cashier of the old Peoples bank at Brookville. Since 1919 Mr. Beck had resided in Dayton. He was a member of the First EUB church here.

Wife of Pastor of St. Mark's Church Suffered From Influenza

Funeral services of Mrs. Albert Beck, 51, wife of Rev. Albert Beck, pastor of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran church, who died Friday night at her residence, 524 Brown st., will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the house and at 2 o'clock at the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran church. The body will be taken at 9 o'clock Monday morning to Uniontown for burial.

Mrs. Beck died after an illness of two weeks, which began with an attack of influenza.

She was born in Uniontown and lived there until her marriage to Rev. Beck, 28 years ago. Since then they have made their home in various Ohio cities. During the past eight years they have lived in Dayton, from whence they removed from Thornville.

Mrs. Beck is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Borchers, of Dayton and Mrs. Elmer Mohler, of Thornville, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Richards, three brothers and a sister.

MRS. BECKER IS DEAD

The funeral of Mrs. John Becker (nee Johnson), who died Thursday morning at her home, 1214 S. Wayne av., after an illness of several months, will be conducted at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the residence. Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery.

Mrs. Becker was born at Carthage, Ky., Oct. 11, 1868 and spent most of her life in Hamilton and Dayton. She was well known in this city, especially among the members of Oak Street U.B. church, with which she was affiliated. She leaves her husband, John W. Becker; two stepsons, William and John Becker, and two daughters, Mrs. Weber of Hamilton and Miss Belle Johnson of Cincinnati.

Robert P. Becker, 74, 125 Weakley street, died from a heart attack at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, a few minutes after he entered the Schroll Coal company, 503 Homestead avenue, to make a purchase. He is survived by a sister, Sophia Becker, with whom he lived. Friends may call at the Mayer and Boehmer funeral home, 600 Washington street, after 5 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and in the St. John's Catholic church at 9 a.m.

William Henry Beddies of 419 Alberta st., died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday. He was 88. Mr. Beddies was a member of Hope Lutheran church. Surviving are three daughters, Nellie, Mabel and Ethel Beddies. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday at the residence by Rev. William Emch. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery. Friends may call at the residence after 4 p. m. Sunday.

FALL ON FLOOR HASTENS DEATH

Mrs. Therest Behrle, 81, died Sunday night at the residence, 133 Gold street. A fall on the floor at her home hastened her end, it is thought.

Mrs. Behrle had lived in Dayton 23 years. Her husband, a veteran of the Civil war, died 16 years ago, since which time she has resided with her son, Frank, well-known newspaper vendor.

Funeral of James Bell, 52, was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Wesleyan Methodist church. Burial in Greencastle. He died early Thursday morning at his residence on the M. S. Benn plat. His wife, Nellie survives.

Mr. John Bell, of Green county, was drowned on the 23d instant in attempting to cross the Little Miami. On the 24th his body was found about a quarter of a mile below the place he attempted crossing.

BELL, Miss Zona J., age 58, of the Bethany Lutheran Village, passed away Saturday. She was a retired stenographer from NCR. MRS. BENDER DIES AT HOME (nee Boomershine)

Mrs. Flora M. Bender, 73, of 314 South Cherry Street, Germantown, died at her residence Wednesday October 30, at 6 pm. A native of Montgomery County, she had been a resident of Germantown for the past forty years.

She is survived by her husband, Harry; four daughters, Mrs. John Fox, Mrs. Lawrence Miller, both of Germantown, Mrs. Gerald Zech of Columbus, Mrs. Raymond Phillips of Florida; one son, Firman Kreitzer of Miamisburg; three stepsons, Charles, Ralph and John Bender of Germantown; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Clara Slusser, and Mrs. Edna Mefford of Germantown; three brothers, Perry and Lewis Boomershine of Germantown and Harry Boomershine of Dayton; three sisters Mrs. Orpha Smith of Germantown, Mrs. Hazel Petersime of Franklin and Mrs. Hannah Acres of Lynchburg, fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; thirteen step grandchildren and six step grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 pm at the John A. Arpp Funeral Home with Pastor Oliver Rajala officiating. Burial was in the Mound Cemetery at Eaton.

Funeral of John Irvin Benner, 73, who died at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday at the residence, 240 Hughes st., was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the house. Burial was in Woodland cemetery. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Lucy Benner; his son, B. F. Benner; his daughter, Sarah Bernice and a granddaughter. Mr. Benner was night house detective of the Miami hotel for two years.

Funeral services of Mrs. Clarence E. Bennett, who died at the residence of her daughter at Detroit, Mich. Wednesday morning, will be conducted there Saturday. Her daughter was Mrs. T. R. Thomas. Mrs. Bennett for many years was a resident of Dayton and wife of C. E. Bennett, former manager of the Beckel hotel.

Mrs. Marie Berry, 52, of 3029 Sagamon av., died at 2:45 p.m. Saturday in Good Samaritan hospital after a brief illness. A native of Jamestown, Mrs. Berry had lived in Dayton for 40 years and was a member of St. Albert the Great church. She was also a member of the Ladies' Sodality at that church. Margaret C. Biddle, 84, died at 10:15 p. m. Monday at the home of her nephew, Russell Sparks, 4790 Old Salem rd., after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Darke county.

IMPRESSIVE SERVICES OF MASONIC ORDER

All that was earthly of the late Charles H. Billings was laid to rest in Woodland cemetery Wednesday afternoon with solemn ceremonies at the Masonic temple.

The remains were removed from the home of the deceased on Garden street on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock and conveyed to the temple where they remained lying in state until the hour set for the funeral.

The chapel of the Masonic temple was heavily draped in mourning and the casket was surrounded with magnificent floral tributes, gifts of associates and friends. The deceased was a member of Reed commandery Knights Templar, and was given a Masonic burial. The funeral services began at 2 o'clock and were attended by a large number of friends besides the Masonic orders and the officers and heads of departments of the Barney Smith Car Co., who attended in a body accompanied by a band of music.

Rev. Stevens of the Williams Street Baptist church officiated at the funeral services according to the Baptist ritual after which the Masonic services was performed under the direction of Eminent Grand Commander S. Rufus Jones. The Scottish Rite ring ceremony was performed by W. H. Sullivan and the ring was presented to the widow of the deceased. The Masonic quartet under the direction of Professor Gilbert prepared the music which was in solemn keeping with the sad affair.

The active pall bearers were W. H. Bussard, G. M. Smart, R. T. Johnson, A. R. Harlacher, G. L. Marshall and E. M. Metzger, all officers of St. John's lodge No. 13, F. and A. M. The honorary pall bearers were P. W. Klinger, Frank Kiefaber, Louis Pg, J. J. Bailey, George A. Blythe and Albert Downs, members of the department's officers' force of the Barney & Smith Car company. A large funeral cortege followed the remains to their last resting place in Woodland cemetery and a brief ceremony was held at the grave.

Funeral services for Samuel L. Black, 67, who died Wednesday night at his home, Swigart rd., R. R. 12, will be conducted from the residence Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery.

A resident of Sugarcreek tp. for 24 years, Black was a widely known farmer in the district. He was a member of the Mt. Zion church.

FATAL ACCIDENT

Last Saturday, McLain Blair, son of J.A.J. Blair, of Washington township, in this county, and nephew of Sheriff Swadener, was kicked by a horse in the abdomen while plowing in the field, receiving injuries which resulted in his death Tuesday night at ten minutes past twelve o'clock. The deceased was about twenty years of age. He was a kind and dutiful son, an affectionate brother, and loved and respected by all who knew him. He was attended during his short, painful illness by Dr. Turnbull of Bellbrook, Greene County, and Dr. R. H. Michel of Montgomery County, the latter an uncle to the deceased. He will be buried this (Thursday) morning at 9 1/2 o'clock. Interment, cemetery at David's Church. Service by Rev. McMichaels.

Former Sheriff Robert M. Blank, 12 Yale av., Wednesday night received word of the death of his father, Simon Peter Blank, 78, who passed away at his farm residence near West Manchester, Preble co., at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The decedent was born in Auglaize co. and had resided in Ohio the greater part of his life. His wife preceded him in death four years ago. Surviving are four sons: Fred, Robert M., Harmon and Walter, and three daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Fattig, Mrs. Clara Douglass and Mrs. Alta Larsen, the latter of Rochester, N.Y. The remains of Mrs. Anna Rose Boland (nee Ley), sister of Mrs. Adelaide Ley, the violinist, and wife of Michael Boland, were taken to Minster, O., for burial, Thursday morning. The funeral was held Thursday morning at 7:30 o'clock from the residence, 306 Kiefaber street, and at 8 o'clock at Holy Angels' church.

ILLNESS FATAL TO FRANK BOND

Death of Frank Bond, 69, occurred Monday at 7:15 a.m. at St. Elizabeth hospital, following an illness lasting about two years. His illness, which began with rheumatism, became serious when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. The first stroke was followed by several others.

He was a graduate nurse of the Miami Valley hospital and had nursed at both hospitals and at various homes. For a number of years he was houseman for the late William Breidenbach.

Bond lived in Dayton during his entire life. He leaves a brother, Dr. R. R. Bond.

Funeral services will be conducted at Dr. Bond's residence, 941 Manhattan av., Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be made in New Carlisle cemetery.

DEATH OF BERT BOOMERSHINE

Bert Boomershine, aged 55, a well known farmer, died at his residence on R. R. 2, Franklin, at 11:45 a. m., Friday, following a ten months illness. He was the son of the late William and Elmira Boomershine, and a life-long resident of this vicinity and had resided on the farm where he died for the past 32 years.

His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mildred Boomershine; also three daughters, Mrs. Helen Gaiser, of Miamisburg, Mrs. Eileen Davis, of Franklin, Mrs. Rosella Emrick, of Germantown; three brothers, Perry and Lewis, of Germantown, Harry of Dayton; four sisters, Mrs. Flora Kreitzer and Mrs. Orpha Smith of Germantown, Mrs. Hannah Achor, of New Vienna, Mrs. Hazel Petersine, of Middletown; eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, at 2:30 p. m., at the Arpp Funeral home, with interment being made in Germantown Cemetery.

Age 87, formerly of Farmersville, passed away Saturday, February 6, 1999 at Sycamore Medical Center. Chester was a farmer in the Farmersville area and was retired from Dayton Rubber. Mr. Boomershine was a Jackson Twp., constable for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Virgil Boomershine; a sister, Mary Martha Ducola. Mr. Boomershine is survived by his wife of 66 years, Esther (Marion); son, Larry and his wife Joyce of Farmersville; a daughter, Marion Lee and her husband Gene Hogg of Boca Raton, Fl.; sister, Viola Kiser of New Lebanon; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. Chester was a member of Slifers Presbyterian Church 2999 S. Clayton Rd., Farmersville, where services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, February 11, 1999. Rev. Mrs. Laura B. Boomershine, 75, 127 Market Street, died Monday at Haines City, Florida.

A native of Clay County, Kentucky, Mrs. Boomershine was a longtime resident of this area.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Viola Leis of New Lebanon and Mrs. Mary Ducolon of Miamisburg; two sons, Chester of Farmersville and Virgil of Miamisburg; eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Rose Miller and Mrs. Donnie Morgan of Dayton, Mrs. Ollie Paul of Franklin and Mrs. Sarah Ferman of Clay County, Kentucky; three brothers, Henry and John Melton of Clay County and Robert Melton of West Carrolton.

Lewis Boomershine, 89, of Germantown, died Monday, September 23, 1996. Mr. Boomershine was a butcher and farmer in the Germantown area. He was a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Boomershine was preceded in death by three brothers, Perry, Bert and Harry; four sisters, Flora Kreitzer, Hannah Lievrance, Orpha Smith and Hazel Lievrance.

Mr. Boomershine is survived by his wife of 67 years Donna (Burroughs) Boomershine. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27, at 2:00 pm at the Arpp & Root Funeral Home with the Reverend C.W. Hatfield officiating. Burial at Germantown Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 26 from 5-8 pm. at the Arpp & Root Funeral Home.

FORMER RESIDENT ACCIDENT VICTIM

Perry Boomershine, 60, of Germantown R. R. 1, a former Miamisburg resident, who is well known here, was injured seriously last Friday afternoon at 3:30 p. m. when the truck he was driving collided with a car at Diamond Mill and Manning roads.

His condition Wednesday was listed as good by nurses at St. Elizabeth hospital in Dayton. They said he was quite sick but making normal progress.

Also hurt in the accident was the driver of the car, Mrs. Alberta Wells, 27, of 445 Ross avenue, Andy Boomershine,10, of the Lower Miamisburg road, grandson of Boomershine; Mrs. Wells' husband, Jesse, 33, and another passenger of the truck, Cecil Bright, 18, stationed at the San Diego, Calif., Naval Air Base.

A bull and a hog riding in the truck were thrown clear of the wreckage and escaped into a nearby field. Boomershine received head and neck injuries.

RITES SUNDAY AT MIAMISBURG

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Brough Funeral Home, Miamisburg, for Perry A. Boomershine, 73, who died early Friday at his residence, 227 West Market Street, Germantown. Burial was in Germantown Cemetery. Memorial Lodge services were conducted Saturday evening.

A life long resident of the Germantown area, he was a member of Germantown Lodage 257, F & AM.

Survivors are his wife, Laura; two daughters, Mrs. Viola Lela of New Lebanon and Mrs. Mary Ducolon of Miamisburg; two sons, Chester A. of Farmersville and Virgil L. of Miamisburg; three sisters, Mrs. Orpha Smith of Germantown, Mrs. Hazel LPetersine of Franklin and Mrs. Hanna Fern Liurance of New Vienna; two brothers, Harry of Dayton and Lewis of Germantown; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

DEATH OF WELL KNOWN MAN

William F. Boomershine, 72, died early Saturday morning at his home, 4 miles south of Germantown, on what is known as the old Anderson farm. He had been ill only a few days. Surviving him are his wife, four sons, Perry, Bert, Harry and Lewis, all of this vicinity, four daughters, Mrs. Geo. Kreitzer, Mrs. Hiram Smith, Mrs. Ralph Brandenburg of Germantown and Mrs. Guy McCoy of Dayton; 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and burial was made in the Germantown Cemetery.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 pm for William F. Boomershine, 72, prominent Montgomery County farmer who resided four miles south of Germantown for a number of years and who had taken a prominent part in the affairs of the community. Mr. Boomershine's death followed a comparatively brief illness.

Besides his widow, he is survived by four sons and four daughters.

Third st., who died Sunday at Miami Valley hospital, will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Charles W. Moore funeral home, 2218 E. Third st., with Rev. BOWEN BURIAL RITES MONDAY
Death of East Fifth Street Woman Occurs at Hospital

Miss Catherine Bowman [sic], 66, member of an old family of this city, died at the Good Samaritan hospital at 1 p.m. Friday following a comparatively brief illness. Less than a week ago she was removed from her home, 912 E. Fifth st., to the hospital.

She was born and reared in Dayton and lived here all her life. She belonged to Holy Trinity church in late years, but for many years was a member of St. Joseph church.

She was the daughter of Michael and Catherine Bowen, both deceased. Her father was roadmaster on the Big Four railroad for years. Surviving her are her sister, Miss Nan Bowen, with who she lived; four nephews and two nieces; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ellen Bowen of Columbus and Mrs. Rose Bowen of Cincinnati.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

At the residence of her son, on the 26th instant, Mrs. Hannah Bowen, in the 103d year of her age. Her funeral will take place at the First U.B. Church on Saturday, at 2:30 p.m. The procession will leave the residence, Southeast corner of McClure and Eagle streets, at two o'clock. Her numerous friends and the members of her church are cordially invited. Interment, Woodland.

MEETS DEATH AS PRISONER OF HUN
Family Was Notified That He Had Died From a Fall and Report Seemed to Have Been Given Verification

Robert S. Bowman, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Frank Bowman, 11 Congress street, died in a German prison camp, according to a report announced Thursday morning by the war department concerning Americans formerly held as prisoners of war in Germany.

This information would appear to conflict with that received by the family Saturday night, to the effect that he had died from a fall at Boucieres, France, on October 11. That report was also confirmed by his lieutenant, Morris C. Kent, on Tuesday of this week.

Robert S. Bowman was only 17 years old, and a junior at Stivers high school when he enlisted in the army on April 20, 1918. He was sent to San Antonio, Texas, where he was assigned to the 25th Aero Squadron in Kelly field. December 28 his squadron was detailed for foreign duty, and was sent overseas. Young Bowman received his further training in England and Scotland. His squadron was put right into action last August, and continued the fight until the armistice was signed.

The last letter received from him was dated September 26. It was written in his characteristic cheerful fashion. At no time did he write anything that might worry his mother. At no time did he register any complaints about the service. Indeed, he was one of the first young men in Dayton to enlist, and during his training he kept repeating the wish that he might be sent across so that he could get into the big fight.

He was born in the city and attended school here. He was one of the finest young men attending Stivers high school, according to the principal, W. H. Mack. "Bob was a splendid fellow in every way," said Mr. Mack, Thursday morning. He was also one of the leaders in the Y.M.C.A. boys department.

Mrs. Blanche Boyer, who died Saturday of heart failure at her home, 1011 South Wayne avenue, was buried in Woodland cemetery Tuesday afternoon, following the services at the house, conducted by Rev. D. Frank Garland; pastor of the First English Lutheran church.

BOYER--W. M., died October 24, at Phoenix, Arizona, age 35 years. Funeral arrangements announced later.

Funeral rites for Mrs. Roseanna Bowman, 28, who died Thursday morning at Miami Valley hospital, were performed at 10:30 Saturday morning at the residence in Lewisburg. Burial was in Xenia cemetery. She leaves her husband, Henry Bowman; three daughters, Betty, Bessie Margaret and Beatrice Bowman, and her mother, Mrs. Hurley.

Operation Performed April 1 Results Fatally--Funeral Friday

Funeral rites for William H. Boyd, 65, president of the Central Finance Co. and treasurer of the Boyd-Cook Contracting Co., who died at 7:30 p. m. Wednesday at Miami Valley hospital, will be held from the Masonic temple Friday at 2:30 p. m. by the Scottish Rite. Rev. Charles Brashares will conduct the services.

The body will lie in state at the temple from 11 a. m. until time for the services. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may view the remains at Whitmer Brothers funeral parlor.

He died following an operation performed April 1.

Thirty-five years ago he came to this city from Hagerstown, Ind., and had resided here since that time. Throughout the years he had spent in Dayton he had been associated with finance companies. He had traveled extensively in Europe and had frequently lectured on his travels.

Since settling in Dayton he had been a member of Grace M. E. church. At one time he taught a Sunday school class.

He also was a member of the Dayton Lodge No. 147, F. and A. M.; Dayton Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Reese Council, Knights Templar; Scottish Rite; the Shrine; Kiwanis club, Arabic club and the Nomad club.

Surviving him are his widow, Flora A. Boyd; one son, Harold W.; one daughter, Mrs. William E. Keys; one brother, Bert A., of Indianapolis, and four grandchildren.

The funeral of Mrs. Joseph S. Bradfield, well known South Park resident whose death occurred Saturday evening, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 at the home, 21 Oak street, and will be conducted by Rev. W. A. Hale, pastor of the First Reformed church. Interment will be made in Woodland cemetery. Mrs. Bradfield is survived by her husband who is a foreman at the N.C.R. and one daughter, Mrs. William Brice.

On Tuesday, August 3, 1897, at 6 o'clock p.m., one of our aged and highly respected ladies, Mrs. Eliza Johnson Bradford, after a few weeks confinement to the house and her bed passed quietly and peacefully to her home above, aged 90 years, 9 months and 24 days. Mrs. Bradford was born in Franklin county Pa., October 10, 1806 and came to Ohio in 1811, with her father, James Johnston, who settled on a farm at Upper Piqua, O., in a log house, and cleared off their farm. She told of the Indians at that time being camped all around their home, and of being carried many times by the Indian squaws on their backs to their camp. Her father bought horses from the Indians and was on very good terms with them.

On December 20, 1831 she was married to Allen Bradford, of Dayton O. The wedding trip was made to Dayton by stage coach drawn by four horses. A few of their friends, including J. Patterson, attended, her sister Rachel Davis, who is the only one now living, and Johnson Perrine, one of Dayton's old merchants, came with them to Dayton. Out of a family of six children, only one now remains, Mrs. Rachel Davis, of Piqua, O., at the age of 86 years, and attended the funeral of her sister, Eliza Bradford, Tuesday afternoon. The eldest was Mrs. Mary Ann Bradford, who was the first to be called away at the age of 8 years. Next came William Johnston, of Piqua, O., at the age of 85 years, then Margaret Rick, of Piqua, at the age of 85 years, and an older brother, Stephen Johnston, who died at a ripe old age. Mrs. Eliza J. Bradford lived on what is known as the old Bradford homestead, four miles south of Dayton, on the Beavertown pike. Dayton at the time she came here was only a few little log houses and it took them all day to come to town and back over the mud roads through the woods. Her husband, Allen Bradford, was called away by death's messenger October 25, 1866. They had born to them six children, two girls and four boys. The daughters, Rachel, Mary, are both dead. The sons, Johnson, David, George and Richard, survive her. She has made her home since the death of her husband with her sons and has had their love and tender care, and died at the home of her son, George D. Bradford, on the old homestead farm at this ripe old age, of almost 91 years. Up until a few weeks before her death she was always able to go about and enjoy company, having all her faculties. Her sons and the many grandchildren mourn the loss of a dear mother and grandmother.

At 8:45 Friday morning, at the residence of her husband, John Bradford, near Bellbrook, Greene county, in the 81st year of her age, Mrs. Ann Bradford, formerly of Washington county, Pennsylvania. Funeral from the Bellbrook U.P. Church, Sabbath at 3 o'clock p.m. Friends will meet at the house at 2. Services by Rev. J. B. McMichael.

Miamisburg - Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Gebhart and Schmidt funeral home here for Mrs. Cora Bradley, formerly of Miamisburg, who died Friday at her residence, 25 S. Antioch st. Dayton. Burial will be in Hillgrove cemetery.

DIES AS RESULT OF INFLUENZA ATTACK

Mrs. Blanche Bragg, 26, died Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock at the Miami Valley hospital. She suffered an illness of influenza about a year ago from which she never recovered.

Miss Bragg was a graduate of the Dayton Normal school, and taught outside of the city until last year, when she was appointed teacher at the Jackson school on West Third street.

She was a resident of Dayton all her life, living at 320 Stillwater avenue. She leaves her mother and one sister, Mrs. Elmer Sauerbrun.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the house. Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery.

Fred W. Brammer, 72, retired farmer of 312 Poddington rd., died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Miami Valley hospital after a seven-week illness. He was born in Ironton. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Robert C. Hayward, Mrs. Clara Baker and Mrs. Lucille Thiess, all of Dayton; three sons, Harry, James and Fred, all of Dayton; four brothers, George, John, Felix and Oscar, all of Ironton, 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being completed at the Hoyne funeral home, 1718 E. Third st.

BRAND, Miss Sophie, age 84, formerly of Catalpa Dr., died Wednesday at Siena Nursing Home. She was a retired secretary of the Phillip Brand & Son Co. A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Funeral services for Earl Brattin, 49, division freight and passenger agent on the Erie railroad with offices in Dayton, who died Sunday in his residence in Indianapolis, will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in his late residence in Indianapolis. Burial will be in Indianapolis.

He died Sunday after an illness of more than a year, which was due to a complication of diseases.

Mr. Brattin came to Dayton in 1920, as a representative of the Erie railroad. He was a member of the Miami Valley Traffic club and a number of other local organizations. He is survived by his widow and one daughter.

G. F. BRAUTIGAM SUICIDE VICTIM

George F. Brautigam Sr., 57, of 1147 Holly av., died at 8:35 p.m. Friday at Miami Valley hospital of a self-inflicted bullet wound.

Dr. Robert E. Zipf, county coroner, ruled the death a suicide. Mr. Brautigam was discovered on the third floor of his residence by a granddaughter at 5 p.m. with a .22 caliber rifle nearby.

A resident of Dayton for the past 10 years, he received 31 citations during World War I. Among them were the Distinguished Service cross and the Navy cross. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Legion of Valor, Disabled American Veterans and Marine Corps league. During World War II he served as Marine recruiting officer at Cincinnati.

Surviving are his wife, Rose; two daughters, Mrs. Rita M. Daly of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Mrs. Rosemary Jackson of Chicago; three sons, Robert C. and George... [remaining portion illegible]

The death of Daniel G. Breidenbach occurred last evening at 6:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P. M. Weaver, after an illness of more than a year.

Mr. Breidenbach was in his 78th year, and a well known Daytonian. He was born in Germany in July, 1826, and came to this country in 1845, making his home in Philadelphia. In 1847 he removed to Dayton, where he resided until his death. In 1848 he married Miss Anna Fishman, of this city, and to them were both eight children--Mrs. Lawrence Kirschner (deceased), Mrs. Catherine Fouts, of West Alexander; Mrs. P. M. Weaver and Mrs. Samuel Nonneman, of this city; Elias Breidenbach, of Piqua, J. W. and Dr. C. H. Breidenbach, of this city.

Mrs. Breidenbach died in 1892. There are fifty grandchildren and one great grandchild remaining.

He was a member of the 131st regiment, O.N.G., serving in the war of the rebellion under Captain James Turner and Colonel John G. Lowe. He served as member of the board of education in 1876-82, and was for fourteen years assessor in the Seventh ward. He was one of the original members of the Abolition party and took a keen interest in politics. For many years he was a faithful member of the German Evangelical church, the pastor of which will conduct the funeral services.

LABORER KILLED BY FAST TRAIN AT MIAMISBURG

Miamisburg, O., Nov. 16 - John Breslin, 53, employed by the Big Four railroad company, was killed this morning shortly after 6 o'clock, when he was struck by passenger train No. 9 south bound.

The accident happened between this city and West Carrollton where a large force of men has been employed for several weeks in reballasting the roadbed. A camp has been established near West Carrollton and Breslin was one of the 200 men who lived there.

Beslin stepped from the north track as a freight train tore down upon him and failed to see No. 9, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, south bound. He was struck and his body taken to Brough Brothers morgue in Miamisburg.

Little is known about the dead man, but it is thought that he is a resident of Groveland, Calif., as he had been in the habit of sending money orders to the Moose Lodge in that city.

Railroad officials will communicate with the Groveland lodge in an effort to learn more about the man and arrange to send his body back there for burial.

BREWER � Mrs. Mary C., wife of H. S. Brewer, died Saturday at 1:30 at the residence, 1543 E. McLain, age 69 years. Funeral Tuesday at 8:30 at St. Mary's church, interment Woodland. Friends invited.

Funeral services for Elliott Britton, 73, a moulder by trade, who died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at his residence, 204 Commercial st., following a lengthy illness, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Frank Riesinger funeral home, 1334 W. Third st., with burial in Memorial Park cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home from Thursday noon until time of services.

Funeral services of Mrs. Louisa M. Britton, wife of William O. Britton, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Raper M. E. church. Interment was made in Woodland cemetery.

Mr. Frank Brixner, son of Frederick and Henriette Brixner (nee Peterman), was born January 28, 1875, in German Township and reared on a farm, now the site of the dam in the Conservancy District, near Germantown. On January 25, 1900 in Hamilton, he was united in happy wedlock to Miss Catherine Elizabeth Jung. To this union was born three children, two sons, Frederick, now located at Rochester, N.Y., and Arthur who has been located in Buffalo, but who has decided to stay on the farm with the mother and younger sister, Angela. Mr. Brixner, for many years was a member of the German Township Board of Education, was also a loyal member of the Charter Oak Grange and Farm Bureau, to which he spent much of his time in furthering the interest of the various organizations in which he took great pride.

After but a few hours of intense suffering from acute indigestion, he passed from this life, Tuesday morning, May 26, 1925, at the age of 50 years, 3 months and 28 days. His funeral was conducted on Friday, May 29, from the Lutheran Church in Germantown, of which church he was a lifelong member, the Rev. C. L. Langerhans of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, of Hamilton officiated.

Mrs. Louise Brixner, aged 81 years, widow of the late Chas. Brixner, died at 11:00 am Sunday at her home on the Germantown and Middletown Pike, following an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of this vicinity and a member of the Lutheran Church. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Alice Brixner, at home, two brothers, Edward and Harvey Van Holt of R.R. 1 Germantown, a sister, Mrs. M. L. Sargent of Topeka, Kansas. Funeral services were held Wednesday, at 2:00 pm at the John Arpp Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul Bressler, officiating. Burial was made in Germantown Cemetery.

BROCKWAY--Mary Philomenia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bockway, Monday, March 25, 1907, at 7:15 p. m., aged 4 years, 5 months and 9 days. Funeral from residence, 23 Creighton av. Thuresday, March 28, at 9:30 a. m., and from Holy Trinity church at 10 o'clock. Interment Calvary. Friends invited.

Brost, at one time associated with the advertising department of the Dayton Daily News - and had gone to Buffalo several months ago, where he was employed on the Polish newspaper in that city. Surviving are the widow, Elsie Unger Brost, and two sons, Thomas and Robert.

Funeral services for Daniel C. Brower, Republican County Committee chairman, will be held Monday at 2 p. m. in Westminster Presbyterian church, Rev. Hugh I. Evans, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

Mr. Brower, GOP chairman in the county since 1918, died unexpectedly Friday morning. He was found dead in bed at his home, 1627 Campus dr.

Surviving are his wife, Grace; a daughter, Dorothy Charlotte Brower of Philadelphia and a brother, Dr. A. B. Brower of Dayton.

Mr. Brower's body will lie in state in Westminster church after noon Monday. Friends also may call at the Whitmer Bros. funeral home, N. Ludlow st. and W. Monument av. from noon Sunday until 11 a. m. Monday.

Andrew Brown, 49, died in Miami Valley hospital Wednesday following a brief illness. Mr. Brown lived at 60 Joe st. He is survived by his wife, Mary. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Loritts funeral home, 638 W. Fifth st., with burial in Greencastle cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Saturday.

Clyde, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brown, died at Cedarville Thursday morning, age one year and seven months. The funeral was held at 47 Sacks street at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Interment at Woodland.

Brown, Donovan R., age 64, of 1647 Tazwell Dr., Lexington, Ky. passed away Friday, St. Joseph Hospital. Survived by his wife, Hazel; 3 daughters, Mrs. Troy Seal, Nicholasville, Ky., Mrs. Paul English, Versailles, Ky., and Mrs. Patricia Myatt, Lexington, Ky.; 1 sister, Mrs. Carl Beal, Miamisburg; 5 grandchildren. He was a member of the Southland Christian Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 10 a.m. at the Gebhart & Schmidt Funeral Home, Miamisburg, Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Interment Hillgrove Cemetery. Friends may call 3-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The last solemn rites were observed over the remains of the late Henry L. Brown, in the First Presbyterian Church yesterday afternoon, and at the family vault. The services were conducted by the Pastor of the church, of which Mr. Brown was a devoted member all his life, assisted by Rev. H. F. Colby, of the First Baptist Church. Rev. L. R. Smith delivered an exceedingly appropriate address. The large auditorium of the church was filled with friends of the family, and an unusual proportion of old citizens, who grew up from boyhood with the deceased, was noticeable. There probably never was a citizen of Dayton who gave as much of his worldly possessions to promote the cause of Christianity and alleviate the sufferings of poor people as Henry L. Brown. He, in fact, gave away, practically, the whole of a liberal fortune for these purposes.

Yesterday evening at eight o'clock, at the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr. W. M. Murphy, near Bellbrook, Greene county, of consumption, Captain James P. Brown, of the 15th Regiment of Infantry, United States Army. Funeral from the residence of Mr. Murphy, to-day (Friday) June 11th, at 10 o'clock. Services at the house. Interment, Woodland.

DEATH OF CAPTAIN JAMES P. BROWN, U.S.A.

The recent death of this officer, at the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr. W. M. Murphy, near Bellbrook, has been already announced. Captain Brown was the son of the late Mr. Robert Brown, well known to the older citizens here as Sheriff of the county. Capt. B. was born in Dayton in the residence of the Sheriff in the old stone jail on Third street, in July, 1844. He entered the army at the early age of 16, and rose to the rank of Captain by the power of his merits as a soldier. During the war of the rebellion he was taken prisoner at the battle of Chickamauga, and was, for eighteen months, confined in various Southern prisons. He finally made his escape from Charlottesville, North Carolina, and after encountering many hardships, reached the Union House in Tennessee, in February, 1886. He was a man of courage and determination and loved his country with the devotion of the true soldier.

For several years his regiment, the 15th Infantry, was stationed in New Mexico. He was afterwards transferred to St. Louis. Some four months ago the disease which terminated his life was first developed. It proved to be a quick consumption. Some five weeks ago he came to the residence of his brother-in-law, as it proved, to die. AT that time he expressed to friends here the conviction that he could not long survive--a conviction which took shape in reality, much sooner than those he addressed supposed.

Capt. Brown possessed a splendid physique, his stature being over six feet, and well proportioned. He had all the pride of the soldier in his profession, and expressed the wish, towards the close of life, that he should be buried in his uniform and with the honors of war. The Brown Guards, Capt. Chapman, of the Soldiers' Home, will form the military escort of the funeral cortege, headed by the band of the institution. The Guard will take their position at the corner of Fifth and Wayne streets, this afternoon at 1 o'clock. The funeral procession from the residence of Mr. Murphy, where the usual religious services will be held, is expected to reach the point named at that hour.

Capt. Brown leaves a wife and one child to cherish his memory and mourn his loss.

At the National Home for D. V. S., near Dayton, Ohio, on July 31st, 1881, John Brown, aged 66 years, late of Company A, Mulligan�s Brigade, and Company C, 26th Regiment Missouri Volunteers. Cause of death, heart disease.

Services for John C. Brown, 86, of 1487 Huffman avenue, will be held t 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Morris Sons funeral home, 1809 East Third street. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. today. Mr. Brown died at 6:45 a.m. yesterday at College Hill hospital. A native of Harrison county, Kentucky, he resided in Dayton 39 years. He was a retired machinist for the Frigidaire division of General Motors. Mr. Brown was a member of St. Paul Methodist church and Knights of Pythias and Taylor lodge 164 F&M, both in Berry, Ky. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Cutler and Mrs. Rachel Chambless, both of Dayton; two sons, Chester C. of Pontiac, Mich., and Joseph N. of Dayton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The Horace A. Irwin lodge, 647 F&AM will hold services at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sarah Ellen Brown, 79, of Quincy, died at 1 p.m. yesterday at the Wilson Memorial hospital after a five-week illness. She was a native of Anna and a member of the St. Jacobs Lutheran church. she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Delma Schaffer and Mrs. Fred Schoffner, both of RR, Sidney; two sons, John W. and Cleon O., both of Dayton; three sisters, Mrs. Harry Reeder of rural Sidney, Mrs. Ida Morgan and Mrs. Katie Hughes of Sidney; two brothers, Charles and Harvey Stengel, both of RR, Sidney. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Quincy Methodist church. Rev. Harley J. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Glen cemetery at Ft. Jefferson. Friends may call at the residence until 11 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral services for John H. Broxey, 53, who died Wednesday, will be conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock at his late residence in Carrmonte [sic]. Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery. The funeral will be private.

Ohio�s Last Civil War Nurse Dies in St. Paris

Urbana - Mrs. Harriet Brubaker, 95, last Civil war nurse in Ohio and one of two surviving in the United States, died at her home in nearby St. Paris at 5 p.m. Tuesday. She was the widow of Isaac Brubaker, for many years a St. Paris banker.

The daughter of Rev. James Manning, pastor of the old St. John�s Lutheran church of St. Paris many years ago, she was born at Fultonham, Ohio, October 7, 1844. Soon after the Civil war broke out, she went to Grafton, W. Va., to visit a friend. Shortly after the battle of Grafton, she enlisted in the nursing service of the Union army and was one of the first persons assigned to the army Hospital established in a Grafton hotel. Later two other nurses joined her in maintaining the hospital until near the close of the war, when it was moved to Baltimore.

The nurse married Isaac Brubaker and the couple made their home for many years in St. Paris. In recent times she had resided with a nephew, William Brubaker.

Funeral will be held probably Friday in St. Paris and burial will be in Spring Gove cemetery.

At 8:30 o'clock Thursday morning the funeral of Bernard Bruggeman was held at the Soldiers' Home chapel and the burial was made in the Home cemetery. He died Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the St. Elizabeth hospital.

A pioneer resident passed away early Friday morning in the death of Frank Bruggeman, at his home, just east of the corporation line, on the Springfield pike. Mr. Bruggeman had been complaining for a long time, but was up and about until Sunday evening, when he was taken seriously ill, and the end came quickly, despite the care and attention of a devoted family. The deceased was 80 years old and was well and favorably known in a wide circle of friends. He was born Oct. 16, 1824, at Kirkspiel, Klabenholoz, Westphalia, Germany, and came to America and to Dayton in 1848. He was employed at the excavation for the first railroad running through Dayton, and later drove a team of oxen for the East End sawmills. Alongside of N. Thomas, the veteran brewer, the deceased worked at the East End paper mills in those early days, and the friendship begun then has continued throughout life between the two men. Mr. Bruggeman last Saturday came into the city to visit with Mr. Thomas, and he was then as well as usual.

For some years he conducted a livery barn on East Third street, near Wayne, and later opened the old tavern on the Springfield pike, which he sold some 12 years ago and retired from active life, building himself a handsome home on the Springfield pike. He was twice married and his second wife, with eight children, survive him. The children are Barney, Theodore, Joseph and John, of Mexico, Frank jr., of Tacoma, Ill.; Ambrose of this city, and Mrs. Herman Bader. The funeral will take place Monday morning, with services at Holy Trinity church. He was a member of the Knights of St. John, Commandery 104, and the St. Laurence society. The burial will be at Calvary cemetery.

Died on the 11th instant, Mrs. Priscilla Bruin, wife of Luther Bruin of this place.

Carl (Pat) Bucher, 61, of 214 Virginia Ave., died Wednesday. He owned and operated the Bucher Plumbing Co.

Survivors: wife, Cecelia; two daughters, Catherine and Clara Bucher of Dayton; a son, John of Columbus; a sister; four brothers and two grandchildren.

Services: 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Meyer & Boehmer Funeral home, 1733 Brown St., 9 a.m. St. Anthony church. Friends may call: 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, funeral home. Burial: Calvary cemetery.

WILL HOLD BUCHER FUNERAL WEDNESDAY

Joseph Bucher, 43, died Sunday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the residence, 1145 East Second street.

The funeral will be Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock from Grierson's undertaking establishment, and at 8:30 o'clock at S. Joseph's church. Burial will be made in Calvary cemetery.

Services for Joseph H. Bucher, 80, of 522 Grand a., former president of the William L. Bucher Cigar factory here, will be conducted at 9:30 Monday at the Walter funeral home, 1235 N. Main st. High mass will be sung at 10 a.m. in Corpus Christi church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Bucher, a lifelong resident of Dayton, died at [time illegible] Thursday.

He entered the cigar business in 1898 when he became president of the cigar company which his brother had operated on Burns av. After the 1913 flood the factory burned and Mr. Bucher reestablished the business at 1409 E. Fifth st. He retired in 1926.

During the construction of the Maria-Joseph home for the aged on Salem av., Mr. Bucher was a member of the board of directors of the home. He was the next to the last living charter member of the old Marquett social club here. Ben Westbrock is the last living member.

Mr. Bucher had been a member of the St. Joseph orphanage 60 years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Corpus Christi church. Survivors include his wife, Henrietta; a brother, Edward R. of Dayton, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Heiser of Dayton, Sister M. Agnella of Denver, Col., and Mrs. Otllia Meyer of Sidney.

The funeral of Bridget A. Brunett will be held Wednesday morning at 8:45 o'clock from the residence, 223 Franklin street, and at 9:15 o'clock at Sacred Heart church. Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery.

Mrs. Brunett died in her 59th year Saturday following a stroke of apoplexy last Tuesday. She was the widow of Anthony Brunett, who died four years ago. Her maiden name was Noonan. She leaves seven children, George Brunett, Mrs. Frank Schroll, Mrs. Tom Nugent, John Brunett, Mrs. Clarence Marshall, Edward and James Brunett; 15 grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters in Marion. She was a member of Auxiliary No. 1, Knights of St. John, the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, the Ladies' Auxiliary A.O.H., and the Gem City I.O.O.F.

Rachel E. Buchanan, three-year-old daughter of Edward and Mary Buchanan, of 114 Washington st., died Tuesday afternoon at the St. Elizabeth hospital. She leaves her parents; a brother, Edward, Jr.; a sister, Betty Jean and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barnett. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Walter funeral home. Burial will be in Bear Creek.

Bucher--Ottillie, widow of the late Louis Bucher, Thursday, Jan. 19 at 2:15 a. m., age 86 years. Funeral Saturday at 8 o'clock from the residence, 330 W. Fourth st. and at Emanuels church at 8:30. Interment Calvary cemetery. Friends invited.

Funeral services of Mrs. Caroline Buchholz, who died Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock was [sic] conducted Thursday morning at 7:15 o'clock from the residence, 232 Samuel street, sand at 7:45 'clock [sic] at St. Mary's church. Interment was made in Calvary cemetery.

Funeral services for Robert Buckles, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Buckles, 243 Deeds avenue, who died at the home of his parents Monday, will be conducted Thursday afternoon at the residence. Burial will be made in Bethel cemetery.

BUDUKIEWIEZ--Stanley, died Oct. 24 at 1:45 p. m., age 31 years. Funeral Saturday morning Oct. 26, from residence, 1329 Richard, at 7:30 and at St. Joseph Church at 8:00. Funeral and church services private. Interment Calvary.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Bundy, 74, who died at 2 p.m. Saturday at the residence, 114 rant st., will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Frank Riesinger's funeral parlors. The body will be sent Tuesday to Mt. Auburn, Ky., for burial. Mrs. Bundy is survived by her husband, James, three sisters and two brothers.

After an illness of two years' duration, Mrs. Christina Buehner, aged 92, one of the oldest residents of Miami township, died at the home of her son, J. F. Buehner, Sunday night at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Buehner had celebrated the 92 anniversary of her birth only a few weeks ago.

Mother Buehner was born in the village of Muehlheim am Bach Ober-Amt Sulz, Kingdom Wuertenberg, Germany, November 14, 1819. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob (Meyer) Guhl. Early in 1841 she was united in marriage to Martin Buehner, who died in Miamisburg January 20, 1875.

On February 8, 1847, she with her husband and children emigrated to the United States. They traveled all the way to Rotterdam, Holland, by wagon and boat, crossed the Atlantic in New York on June 27; from New York to Albany by boat on the Hudson river, the only traveling done by rail on the long journey was from Albany to Buffalo.

Crossing Lake Erie, they arrived in Toledo early in the morning of July 4th, arriving in Miamisburg July 8th, 1847, where she had since resided. Five months to the day was covered in making this journey.

Mrs. Buehner was the mother of eleven children, four of whom where born in Germany, one son, J. F. Buehner, was born on the Atlantic Ocean, and six were born in this city.

The following children are residents of Miamisburg: Mrs. Elizabeth Gunder, Mrs. Mary Betz, Mrs. Catherine Schneider, Mrs. Christina Schuster, Otto Buehner, and J. F. Buehner, who whom she had made her home for 30 years.

Two brothers are living in Germany-J. George Guhl, 85, and Christian Guhl, 78, There are 29 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.

Mrs. Buehner was a devout member of the Lutheran church all her life. She was of a cheerful disposition and until the last two years had enjoyed good health, having lost the use of her limbs, and partially her eyesight, making her helpless, but free from pain. She was able to converse intelligently of the past and present.

The funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 o'clock p. m., at the Lutheran church, conducted by her pastor Rev. F. W. E. Peschau, D. D. Interment in Hill Grove cemetery.

Mrs. Jennie Bunker, wife of H. P. Bunker, died Wednesday morning at 12:45 o'clock, after a short illness. Funeral this (Thursday) afternoon from the residence of her husband, No. 228 South Ludlow street, at 2 o'clock. Interment, Woodland. Friends are invited to attend.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Masonic temple for Nathan Burch, floor manager of the Third National Bank and Trust Co., with Rev. George Sonneborn officiating. Burial in Memorial Park cemetery. Burch was a member of Dayton lodge, No. 147, Free and Accepted Masons, and was initiated into Dayton Consistory in the April, 1936 class. The body was taken from the Whitmer Brothers funeral parlors to the Masonic temple at 11 a.m. where it lay in state until the hour of the funeral.

BURKHARDT--Emma Bauman, wife of R. P. Burkhardt, Jr., Monday, March 25, 1907, at 12:55 a. m. in her 37th year. Funeral Wednesday, March 27, at 8 a. m. from the residence, 109 N. Boulevard, and from Emanuel's church 8:30 o'clock. Interment Calvary.

Kicked To Death
Ed. Butcher Fatally Injured While Lying in a Stable

On Monday night at some time not definitely fixed, but evidently at a late hour, Ed. Butcher, a well known character who has been hostler at the Fair Grounds and other places, while in an intoxicated condition went into the stable in the rear of Ad. Miller�s saloon on East Sixth street, and lay down in the straw of the stall, where Ad.�s horse was tied. The horse kicked him fatally.

In the morning about 7:20 Miller�s barkeeper and others heard groans in the stable, and went out to see what was the matter. They found Ed. Butcher lying in a dying condition, the frightened horse having kicked him in a horrible manner. Both his legs were broken below the knees, his jaw was fractured and also his skull, on the back of which was a large hole.

The ambulance, manned by Officers Cathcart and Dickensheets, was summoned. As Officer Dickensheets entered the stable the injured man turned his head and said �Hell, Sam.� The effort to speak was too much for him, and he sank back, having raised himself slightly on the straw. Officer Dickensheets asked him, �Did the horse kick you?� and Butcher nodded in the affirmative.

Tenderly the injured man was carried to the ambulance and, as quietly as possible, taken to St. Elizabeth�s Hospital. There the police surgeon did all in his power for him, but at 11 o�clock Butcher, who had never rallied and had been rapidly sinking, died.

Funeral rites for John Butts, 70, who committed suicide Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Wilson, near Englewood, will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at the Frank Riesinger�s funeral chapel. Burial will be in Greencastle cemetery. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. James Wilson of Englewood, Mrs. Grace Brunner and Mrs. Bess Studvent of Dayton; three sons, Harold, Clarence and Charles Butts of Dayton.

Funeral services for Miss Bertha Buvinger, of 971 Harvard blvd. were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the residence. Rev. Phil Porter officiated. Burial was in Woodland.

MRS. BUVINGERS' RITES MONDAY

Services for Mrs. Bessie C. Buvinger, 82, of 47 E. Helena st., will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Whitmer Brothers funeral home, 239 N. Ludlow st., by the Rev. Lowell W. Rupp. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The family requests flowers be omitted.

Mrs. Buvinger, mother of Montgomery County Commissioner C. Clark Buvinger, died unexpectedly at 2 a.m. Friday at her residence.

Born in Sandusky, she had resided 80 years in Dayton. A member of the Riverside Methodist church, she was past matron of Acacia chapter 358 OES, and past president of the Helen Hunt club.

Surviving besides her son, are her husband, Orville D., with whom she celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last September; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret B. Smith of Dayton; a brother, E. T. Clark of Pittsburgh, Pa., and three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

THE LATE MRS. CASSANDRA BUVINGER

Yesterday morning Mrs. Cassandra Buvinger, wife of Henry Buvinger, died at her residence on Green street at the advanced age of seventy-seven years. Cassandra Everist was born in Havre deGrace, Maryland, March 15th, 1808. Her mother died when she was six years old, and there being a large family of children, she was partly raised by friends in Baltimore, where she continued to reside until 1836, when she was united in marriage to Henry Buvinger, and immediately came to Dayton. She became a member of the M.E. Church about 1840, uniting with Wesley Chapel in 1849. Having moved the previous year to the present family residence, she transferred her membership to Finlay Chapel. She was identified in the struggles of building the present structure, now known as Raper Church, doing all she could in furthering the work of God. She was very successful in imbuing her children with her excellent spirit, and enlisting them early and earnestly in the church of her choice. She was modest in her professions, but was always found in her place in the house of worship. She was ready at all times with her means to aid the destitute as far as lay in her power. She was an excellent and skillful attendant in sickness, often going night and day among her friends and neighbors, never shrinking from duty and never sparing herself. Her life was blameless; she had many friends and was held in the very highest estimation by her fellow Christians and acquaintances.

She was the mother of six children, four of whom survive her. She gave unmistakable evidence in her conversation of trust and faith in her Savior.

Her funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon first at her residence and then at Raper Church.

George W. Byers, 92, died yesterday morning at 4 o'clock at his residence at Carlisle, after an illness of pneumonia, which developed from a severe cold. Mr. Byers had been a resident of Warren county for 70 years. He was born in the old Byers homestead, near Miamisburg.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the home. Burial will be in Carlisle cemetery.

He is survived by three children, Harry L. Myers, William M. Byers and Irene B. Unglesby.
