35th Ohio Infantry, Lieutenant

 

David Schaeffer enlisted as a private in the 35th Ohio Infantry on August 26, 1861, for a period of three years.  He enlisted at Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 35. 

He fought Confederate troops at Mill Springs, Corinth, Perryville, Tullahoma Campaign, Chickamauga, the Atlanta Campaign, Resaca, Dallas and Kenesaw Mountain.

 David W. Schaeffer was married twice.   His first wife was Frances B. Schaeffer.

General Affidavit, State of Ohio, Montgomery County.
In the matter of the claim of Kate S. Schaeffer, widow of David W. Schaeffer, H 35 OH Inf.

 On this 7th day of July, A.D. 1908, personally appeared before me, a notary public, in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths, Walter B. Schaeffer, aged 57 years, a resident of Dayton, in the County of Montgomery, and State of Ohio, whose post office address is no. 1103 N. Main St, Dayton Ohio, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to the aforesaid case as follows:

 

Soldier, David W. Schaeffer was affiant’s father, and Frances B. Schaeffer, the first wife of said David W. Schaeffer was the mother of this affiant.  Said Frances B. Schaeffer died November 21, 1864, at Dayton, Ohio.  Said David W. Schaeffer married Kate S. Schaeffer, the claimant herein, December 14, 1865.  Said David W. Schaeffer died September 5, 1894.  Said Kate S. Schaeffer lived with her husband from the time of said marriage to the time of his death.  Said Kate S. Schaeffer has not remarried since the death of her said husband David W. Schaeffer.

 

David W. Schaeffer and   Kate S. Link were married the 14th day of December   1865  by Rev. D. J. Skarr of Dayton, Ohio.  They had no children together.  Link is not her maiden name, it is her married name by her first husband, Henry T. Link, who also passed away prior to her marrying David Schaeffer.
