The Spirit of Democracy, January 19, 1899



Mrs. M. A. Lovett of Brownsville died January 9. Interment Wednesday in the M. E. cemetery at that place. The stricken husband and motherless children have the sympathy of the entire community.

Rosenlieb brothers are grinding quite an amount of feed this winter and our citizens realize the benefit of such a mill and are patronizing them.

Several of our neighbors are hauling sawlogs to set on John Langsdorf's farm where a saw-mill will be placed in the near future.

Fred Moellendick brought home a flock of sheep last week which he purchased near Archer's Fork.

John Myers is clearing out a tract of land on Pine Ridge for Henry Busche.

Protracted meeting at Bethel closed Monday night with three accessions.

John Rosenlieb, who is pumping on Miller's Run, is at home sick.

Mrs. R. F. McCaslin visited Mrs. William Langsdorf Thursday.

Louis Rosenlieb was in Brownsville on business Wednesday.

Mrs. George Theile is suffering from an attack of grip.

Several persons of this place attended William Schmidt's sale at Brownsville last Saturday. Mr. Schmidt has been one of Brownsville's prominent business men. We understand he will make his future home in Marietta, Ohio.

Jacob Moellendick, jr., after spending a few days with relatives and friends here, returned to his work at Stringtown, W.Va. last Friday.

Philip Byers, formerly of this place, and son of George Byers of Train Run, died MOnday February 6, of consumption.

Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Dines have been visiting relatives' and friends at East Liverpool for the past two weeks.

Henry Busche brought home a fine two year old colt a few days ago which he purchased near Sardis.

Lou Bodine, who hash ten working at Scio, spent a few days with his family at this place last week.

Those on the sick list are Mrs. George Byers, and Mrs. John Myers.

M. E. protracted meeting is in progress at Brownsville.

Mrs. Robert McCaslin visited Mrs. Dr. Devaul, Saturday.

Some very heavy storms passed over this section during the past two weeks, doing a great amount of damage.

Mrs. James Weber of Cochransville visited her mother Mrs. James Moore of Bethel one day last week.

Miss Edna Clegg of Round Bottom is visiting her sister Mrs. Irene McCaslin of this place.

Mr. and Mrs. John Langsdorf spent a couple of days at Sardis with relatives last week.

Miss Martha Moore of Carson City has been visiting relatives at Bethel several days.

August Rosenlieb, after spending several days at Rochester, returned home Tuesday.

Mrs. Robert McCaslin returned home from Round Bottom, Thursday of last week.

Elias Stewart of Bethel had a fine horse killed by lightning last week.

George Kreig was in New Matamoras a few days ago on business.

William Langsdorf was at Sardis Saturday on business.

R. F. McCaslin was in Antioch Wednesday.
