N. D. Baker and family are getting over a severe attack of grip.

C. C. Baker started to New Matamoras to see some of his friends.

Our school closed last Saturday. We had a good time. The house was crowded--full of old, middle-aged and young people. The school was taught by John T. Turner and he gave entire satisfaction. Tom is a good teacher and earns his money. The exercises in the forenoon consisted of spelling and select reading, and in the afternoon of declamations, dialogues and speeches. I give a list of those connected with the exercise:
Declamations: A. W. Burg, F. T. Bishop, R.E. Burg, J.E. Ogle, J.C. Schafer, M.E. Ogle, L.W. Byers, E.E. Cecil, Emma Ackerman and others.
Dialogues: H.R. Baker, A.W. bBurg, John L. Shorts, A.C. Baker, M.C. Shell.
Speeches: Martin Baker, Henry Shorts, Thomas Bishop, C. Ackerman, Western Koehler, Madison Gray, John C. Schaffer.
Everything went off lively until evening, when there was a little "scrap;" it was soon settled when the right one spoke.
