The Spirit of Democracy, March 16, 1899



The readers of the Spirit of Democracy at this place are very much interested in the continued Story which appears in that paper entitled the Undoing of a double." It is very exciting and interesting ad should be read by all.

The warm days have once more made their appearance and our farmers have to think about their spring crops.

Our school will soon come to a close. It was taught by John Morrison. He gave general satisfaction to all.

We understand that THomas Fleming has rented a part of his farm and house to Charles Gill.

The meeting at Mt. Hope Sunday was not very well attended on account of bad roads.

Mrs. Linnie Cline and daughter Minnie of Virginia are visiting friends here.

Reufus Mary of Noble county shipped some hogs from this place last week.

Some oil men are bring to lease a black of land at this place.

John Gray started on a trip to West Virginia Saturday.

William Durbin has gone west to seek employment.

Frank Fleming will start Monday for Wheeling.



The Spirit of Democracy, June 29, 1899



Quite a number of our young folks gathered at the home of Mrs. Malinda Cline Saturday evening. The evening was spent in vocal music.

We congratulate The Spirit of Democracy for the liberal amount of local letters and obituary notices furnished its readers.

The oil excitement is very low at present. There is no land leased at this place within our knowing.

Mr. ad Mrs. Thomas Hartline and little daughter of Quarry attended meeting at Mt. Hope Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. James Parks were the guests the first of the week of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Fleming.

Mr. and Mrs. Philip Weber of Masterton attended meeting at Mt. Hope Sunday.

Mrs. John Connor, who has been quite ill for some time is about well.

Miss Nellie Wallace attended singing at Hopewell Saturday evening.

George Okey and family of near Stafford visited Jacob Weber.

Miss Nannie Fleming was the guest of her parents over Sunday.

Miss Frances Fleming visited James Parks one day last week.

Joseph Zwick and family visited Philip Holiday's over Sunday.

The most of our farmers are done harvesting wheat.
