Mrs. Rachel Harper, as aged lady and one of the pioneers of this place, died at the home of her son, N. T. Harper, on the morning of the 17th and was interred in the Bush Cemetery on the 18th, Rev. Jones officiating. She was 79 years of age, had spent nearly all her life here and was respected by every one. In the days of her prosperity her charity knew no limit, and it was fitting that in her last years she was surrounded by all the comforts that kindness and affection could bestow.

Abe Mann, of Allegheny City, is visiting friends here.

Mrs. Thomas Fowler, of this place, who was called to Bellaire a few days ago by the illness of her daughter. Mrs. Ayers, returned Saturday, accompanied by Mrs. Dr. Rosenberry and children of Menominee, Mich.

Miss Nell Johnston will leave soon for Barnesville, where she will enter the millinery department in G.E. Hunt's store.

Otto Mann and family have moved to the Williams farm west of town.

Our school closed last Friday.

We were entertained in the primary room in the afternoon, by recitations by a number of the little ones, and a few remarks by J.P. Mann and the teacher, Forrest Nelson, after which the pupils of both rooms were given a generous treat by their teacher. In the evening, Mr. Staudt and his pupils entertained quite a crowd, consisting of the patron of the school and others, with music, recitations and essays. The graduation class were : Carroll Mann, Giffin Null, Louise Mann and Grace Johnston. The motto of the class was, "To think is to live." Rev. Haverfield addressed them in a very pleasing style, gave them some good advice and presented the diplomas. Mr. Staudt has been an earnest worker in our school and we think he has reasons to feel that his labor has not been in vain.
