The Spirit of Democracy, July 20, 1899

(Deferred from last week)

A very enjoyable social event was the surprise party given at the residence of G. W. Fisher Wednesday evening in honor of his wife, Mrs. Lib Fisher that being her birthday anniversary. Quite a large crowd was present and the surprise was complete, Mr. Fisher and daughter Miss Tillie having succeeded in making all arrangements without Mrs. Fisher's knowledge. After supper it was proposed that Mr. and Mrs. Fisher would go to see the Wise oil well which is not far from Mr. Fisher's farm. When they returned after couple of hours absence Mrs. Fisher was completely surprised to find the house and yard filled with her friends and neighbors. After recovering from her surprise she was presented with several tokens of regard and many wishes for many happy returns. The evening was pleasantly spent in social conversation. Refreshments were served and at a late hour the guests departed expressing their enjoyment of the pleasant evening. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Greenbank of Summerfield were present, also, friends from Lewisville.
