___A great New Year to all OHMIAMI listers________
My Miami County families of interest are HUMBERT, REED, and McCRARY (sometime spelled MCCREARY ), mostly between the years of 1820 and 1840. My gr-gr- grandfather, William HUMBERT, married Jane MCCRARY, about 1830, Miami County. They had two daughters before before Jane died. William HUMBERT then married Lydia Ann REED, 9 June 1835 at Miami Co. Within a few years, they moved out of Miami Co., to Iowa, and eventurally settled into eastern Kansas, about 1855.

Hello everyone. I am fascinated by this mailing list but not certain how to participate yet. I hope this works. I was born in Piqua, Ohio about 40 years ago and have many ancestors from the city of Piqua and from Covington. The Covington families are primarily ADAMS and date back to Phillip Adams 1784-1874 who was born in N.Y. and moved to Miami County (Gilbert(2), Thomas (1) both of NY). Surnames involved in this Adams line are:

ADAMS, DINGEE, TRAVIS, MITCHELL, LUCAS, RENCH, ROECKER, (ANDERSON & WISE -other wives)

Originating in Champaign County (Careysville), but having descendants in Miami County are:

LEMMON, FLOWERS, PERKEYPILE, MAGART and CONNER (from Virginia) ,married to the Conners are EVANS, and HALTERMAN

From Alsaac-Loraine to Miami County was BALTHAZAR VIERRICH (Abt 1810 - 1872) the name later changed to WIRRIG. Surnames involved in this Wirrig line are:

WIRRIG, GRAFF, HUERING, BRYANT the Bryant line includes MARTIN, CALVIN

My maiden name was SMITH from JAMES SMITH and MARY ELLEN COX in Newark, Ohio. The descendants in Miami County are WILLIAM AUGUSTUS SMITH (1882 - 1932), and JAMES EDWARD SMITH (1909 - 1932). The other surnames in this line are:

COUGHLIN, FARLEY

I just wanted to add that my parents both grew up and attended high school in Piqua. One of my mother's classmates responded to a previous letter. I'm sure they would be thrilled to hear from you. They are Jerry A. Smith and Mary K. Lemmon. I only lived in Piqua through the 4th grade. I think this is a great idea. I read each and every one. Thanks. Christine

Happy New Year! and thanks to Joe and all who make the list and the CHA so helpful! (hi to Adam and Chuck B^> )

My Miami Co families are FRAZEE, WOLCOTT, and MORRIS. In 1998, the Miami Co web-site and this list helped me *finally* connect my ND Frazees to the NJ Frazees. In October, I was able to go to the Old Lost Creek Baptist cemetery near Casstown, where my 3g-grandparents Moses and Priscilla (Morris) Frazee and 2g-grandparents Lewis and Rebecca (Wolcott) Frazee are buried. That was my first opportunity to visit any of my ancestors' graves -- the emotional impact of seeing and touching (and photographing) the final physical reminders of two generations of my family was overwhelming. Special thanks to Adam for the cemetery info, and the next time I'm in Ohio, let's try (again) to meet!

Best wishes to all for 1999, and if there are any other descendants of the Frazees, Wolcotts, or Owen and Abigail (Wilson) Morris (parents of my g-grandmother Harriet) on the list, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks again,

Pam Hystad

I live in NC now, most of my Miami Co. families are complete, maybe I can help someone else. I descend from Joseph HUTTON DEFREES, whose son John came to Ohio as a surveyer, liked the Miami area so well he settled there and his father joined him in the very early Miami Co history. Other Miami Co. family names of interest to me are - JACOBS, SHROYER, WRIGHT, all on my husbands line. John Jacobs d. 1814, Miami Co. !! Thanks for all you are doing for all the rest of us on line. I hope somebody can help me with my stumbling block. My Hampton WOODRUFF b ca 1790 in New Jersey came to Miami Co., in the early 1800's. My first record of him is that he served in the War of 1812 and then he married Hannah BLUE in 1813. They lived in Miami Co. until 1829 then moved to Illinois.

My problem is that I don't think that Hampton came to OH by himself. There were several Woodruffs in OH at the time that Hampton was there but I cannot find a connection to the other Woodruffs. Hampton and Hannahs first son was named David Clark. There was a David Clark in Miami Co and I am wondering if this David Clark could be a relation to my Hampton. I am grasping all all straws here to find parents and siblings of Hampton.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

The Cassady line originally came from Rockbridge Co. VA. From a biography on George Washington Casseday, it is given that his widowed mother brought the family to Troy, OH with a short stay in KY. Possibly in Troy around 1820. George states he learned the carpenter trade while living in Troy. From the marriages listed for the OH Valley, George married Deliah Murphy, 1824, Miami Co. OH. Listed also was a marriage of a Mary Cassady to William AMMONS, 1832, in Warren Co. OH. Need to PROVE if this is Mary McClung Cassady of Rockbridge Co. VA, mother of George, Samuel and Alexander of Louisville, KY and Rebecca Cassady McFaddin of Brown County, OH.

and spouses were:

Mary STEWARD wife of G.W. MILLER
David STEWARD
Amasa M. STEWARD, JR.
William M. STEWARD
Eliza Ann STEWARD wife of J.W. KELLY
John STEWARD (our ancestor) who married Malinda HILDEBRAND, but this

Nancy Jane STEWARD wife of Percivel WILHELM
Elizabeth STEWARD who married Samuel DeWeese MURPHEY
Robert W. STEWARD
Delilah STEWARD who married her sister's husband Samuel DeWeese MURPHEY

Hello, Researchers of WINANS, CLARK & MILLS,

I continue to search for my elusive Elizabeth "Betsy" CLARK' s parents, siblings, and ancestors. Elizabeth was b 1790; married 1810 Scotch Plains, Essex (now Union) Co., NJ to William W. (possibly Wm. Winans) MILLS of Westfield Twp., Essex (now Union) Co., NJ. Family emigrated ca 1815 to Hamilton Co., OH > Warren Co., OH > and finally to Shelby Co., OH where Betsy died. William later remarried to Joanna FLINN also from a NJ family and relocated in Miami Co., OH where he died. William & Betsy are said to have had 7 children of which only four are known: Halstead C. [possibly Halstead Coe/Cole(s)] MILLS; Dennis C. [possibly Dennis Clark] MILLS; Philemon Elmer [aka Philemore Elmore] MILLS; & Joanna or Jemima MILLS.

No one to date has been able to connect Elizabeth to her NJ CLARK family. Any additional information on this family would be appreciated. Any information on her children would be appreciated. I am descended from Dennis C. MILLS b 1815 NJ/OH who m 1839 Shelby Co., OH to Elizabeth GEESEMAN/GIESSEMAN/etc. who named a son Nicholas Wynant/Winans MILLS, an ancestral uncle.

I am looking for the parents of Deborah Furgason who married Nathaniel Haworth 4/16/1824 in Miami Co. I believe she was the sister of James Furgason who married Elizabeth Miller. They were in Newton Twp. Miami Co. at the time of Deborah's marriage.

The following clues indicate a definite connection between Furgason, Haworth and Miller families:

1) James Furgason bought a pair of saddlebage from the estate of James Wade Haworth (father of Nathaniel) in 1830.
2) A susannah Miller married James Haworth (son of Nathaniel and Deborah.
3) A Sidney Furgason maried another son of Nathaniel and Deborah, James Wade Haworth.

Hello,

This one is tough because on this branch of my tree I have encountered different spellings of the last name - WIRRIG, WIRIG, WERRICK and VIERRICH ( I believe the last one was the americanized spelling).

I know they lived in the county (most likely Piqua) from the mid-1800's on.

Any info anyone could provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Well gang, while looking around for the trail of Solomon BURKET and his wife Sarah HOLTSCLAW whose marriage took place on 9 Aug 1812 in OH into Indiana, I fell over these two men in the Indiana Territory (that's BEFORE Indiana became a state:):) ):

William HOLTZCLAW secured land on 27 Aug 1814
James HOLDSCLAW secured land on 28 Oct 1815

Does anyone know who these men are and anything about them? Did either or both have a sister and/or a daughter named Sarah?

Thanks for answering.

MCCOOL
Seeking information about MCCOOL family that came to Miami county (from SC) in 1806. Gabriel appears in Newberry Twsp tax rolls in 1818 and Union Twsp records in 1827. Gabriel's wife was Elizabeth (WRIGHT) MCCOOL and their son was James MCCOOL.

Did they have other children?
Was Thomas a brother? other relation?

I am particularly interested in the history of James MCCOOL? Is he the same James that lived in AL 1825 - 1837? Any McCool-related information is welcome.
