Researcher: M. E. Robertson

I have FINALLY received the last piece of Vital Records that I needed so that I could VERIFY the following information for you and others. Several genealogies state that Solomon BURKET(T)/-BYRKET married Sarah HOLTSCLAW [marriage record of Montgomery County, OH 9 August 1812, which date you were kind enough to furnish me the date]. Most of those genealogies state that Sarah HOLTSCLAW Burket/Byrket died without bearing any children and BEFORE 1820. Solomon then re-married [I have at least three different women's names] and that wife bore all of his children. Sarah HOLTSCLAW not only bore all of Solomon BURKET's children, but she outlived him. After looking over the vital records [marriages, tax records, federal census records, etc.] on the Miami Valley Genealogical pages, I believe I know how the such conclusions came about and what was missed. There was more than one man named Solomon BURKET living in the same area. Also, many of the genealogies show that Solomon had only four or five children. At the present time, I cannot tell you how many children there were; but in my mind, the most important child is missing -- my gr-gr- grandfather.

Here is what I can verify thus far by Vital Records and Federal Census Records on my direct line from Solomon:

Solomon BURKET married 9 August 1812
Sarah HOLTSCLAW in Ohio their son.
Solomon's will was probated in Cass County, Indiana, in 1845.

Their son Daniel BURKET was born IN 10 January 1833, died 4 June 1904, in Cass County, IN. According to the federal census in 1850 for Cass County, IN, Daniel was living with his mother and farming. Daniel married at least two times,
1) Lucinda HALL 3 Feb 1854
2) Claricy ________________

Daniel and Lucinda's daughter
Sarah Jane BURKET b. 30 September 1855 Cass County, IN d. 10 July 1943 in Grant County, IN. Sarah Jane m. in Cass County, IN, 16 October 1873 Emanuel LUSHER b. OH, son of Jacob LUSHER and Sarah MOURY

The following children were born in Cass County, IN to Sarah Jane BURKET and Emanuel LUSHER:
Alice Emaline LUSHER, b. 27 Aug 1874
Laura Ann LUSHER, b. 26 Aug 1877
Minnie Ellen LUSHER, 9 Oct 1879
Elsie Mary LUSHER, 25 Sept 1881
Daniel Willard LUSHER, 14 July 1884
William Roy LUSHER, 25 November 1886
Francis Albert LUSHER, 26 November 1889
Joseph E. LUSHER, 19 November 1893

Numerous grandchildren were presented to Sarah Jane BURKET and her husband Emanuel LUSHER, and I am just one of their many gr-grandchildren.

Hello to all,

Please excuse me for a moment... I'm new at this... but I thought I'd take two seconds and let you know that there is a new Surname List. There are some of us that have some surnames that haven't been on any Lists yet and my GRIMES is one of these "little orphans".

You'll find that you can subscribe to just about anything... you have to go to the website to subscribe to a brand new List titled; GRIMES-List which encompasses all known spelling of this surname.... GRIME, GRIMES, GRYMES, MacGRIME, O'GREIDHM ...anywhen/anywhere, ................... and any other spelling used! I've limited it to Genealogy related but it's an open format too...

The new List is under the heading of "Family/Genealogy".

OOPS! My two seconds is almost up......

Hugs to you all,

Lisa Grimes
