Dear Community Member, When I was a small boy, my grandmother used to take me to the old Middletown Library. In there, she would point out the large sketch of the founder of Middletown, Daniel Doty, and tell me with pride how I am a direct descendant of his. I grew up hearing stories passed down about Doty’s early adventures in settling Middletown, grappling with the elements and wild animals. I grew up with a sense of roots in the city. You don’t have to be a descendant of the Dotys, Vails, Leffersons, or Sutphins to care about Middletown’s history. Maybe your family had something to do with the city’s steelmaking or other industrial tradition or maybe they just found Middletown a nice place to raise a family. Regardless, the Middletown Historical Society is about preserving all of this community’s rich history by collecting, archiving and exhibiting artifacts such as Daniel Doty’s early hunting knife, a miniature model of The American Rolling Mill’s first plant and photography of early Middletown. Your financial support can ensure that these efforts will continue and that the voice of Middletown’s past will continue to be heard today and in the future. Become a member of the Middletown Historical Society today and if you are already a member, please consider making a generous donation to our efforts by filling out the membership form below. Sincerely, Jeffrey Diver President, Board of Trustees
