CLARK BOYD, of Wheeling township, is a son of William and Nancy (Patterson)
Boyd. William was born in Maryland, of Scotch descent. His father fought
bravely in the war of 1812, being only fourteen years of age. It is said
that he conducted himself with far more valor than many a man of more
advanced years. The mother, Nancy Patterson, was a native of Ireland, and
came to this country with her parents in her youth. Mr. Boyd has never been
married, but has a very pleasant home with the Misses Mary and Maggie Walker.
Besides his own well cultivated farm of sixty-five acres, and a stockholder
in the First National bank of Flushing, Mr. Boyd manages the large agricultural
estate of the Misses Walker. The latter ladies are very respected and highly
cultivated members of the community in which they live.
