Located in the Medina Library, the Franklin Sylvester Genealogy Room was inaugurated September 1992 and houses the local history and genealogy collection. Named for the local cattle baron who donated the money for the first public library in Medina, the room is devoted to basic genealogy resources and the rich history and colorful people of the immediate Medina County area.
GUIDELINES FOR THE FRANKLIN SYLVESTER
LOCAL HISTORY AND GENEALOGY ROOM
The room is available during regular library hours.
The doors to the room will be kept closed and locked at all times.
All patrons using the Franklin Sylvester Room will sign the room registration.
Materials may not be taken from the room. If photocopies are needed, a staff person will provide assistance.
Patrons may sign up to use the microfilm reader for one hour. At the end of the hour additional time may be requested if the microfilm reader is free and has not been reserved. Reservations may be made by phone up to two weeks in advance.
This information is provided to help you realize all the resources the library has to offer in your genealogy searches. Unfortunately because of the special nature and historical value of these materials, not all of them are listed in the library's computer catalog. That's why we have compiled this brief list of the resources and collections available at the Medina Library. The staff of the Medina County District Library is happy to assist you in your research. We are here to help you use the resources of the library. For our offsite patrons, we are able to search indexes and photocopy pertinent information. However, time and staff limitations do not allow for in-depth research. If you need more information or assistance, please ask a staff member for help.
