The
Barn and Chicken House
This
is typical of a turn-of-the-century barn in Monroe County, Ohio. Built on rolling land, provided
opportunities that would have to be added to a structure built on flat
land. Drainage, for example was seldom
a problem. The large hay-doors could be
built on the upper side of the barn making access ramps for teams and wagons easier
or sometimes unnecessary. Multiple
levels facilitated storage and accommodated livestock on the warmer lower
levels.
The
chicken house is the structure to the right of the barn and in the upper right corner
of the picture.
