SHEROD, SCHENDEL, BACON

My grandmother's name was Agnes SHEROD SCHENDEL, her father's name was John SHEROD and he was married to a Lucy BACON she died in 1944. I am trying to link Lucy to the BACONS of Brownhelm. John SHEROD was buried in a family plot in Brownhelm. What I would like to find is the cemetery where they might be buried at. I have been told that the SHEROD'S came to Brownhelm and helped settle it. They came from Connecticut. Thank you.

KRATZ

Looking for additional information for a family that has been identified in the 1870 Census Index for Black River Township (now the city of Lorain, OH). It showed John KRATZ - age 49, a farmer; Mary - 46, keeping house; next it looks like Christian - 22 male, under occupation it was illegible word on the farm; next Henry - 20 male and ditto marks under on the farm. All those were born Hesse-Darmstadt. Then Elizabeth - 16 female; Catherine? - 14 female; next two females whose names could not be made out - the 12 year old appears to start with a D, and a 3 year old looks like Aoseinal. Is that even a name? All four females were born in OH. Information I have indicates this family lived on a farm near Elyria OH when they left Germany and arrived in America, about 1852. John and Mary Kratz were my gr-gr-grandparents and Henry Kratz was my gr-grandfather. Sometime between 1870 and 1875, they moved to southwest MI (Berrien County), where my grandfather was born in 1876. I am trying to locate the whereabouts of this family during the time period of 1852-1870. Their names did not appear in the 1860 Census Index for Lorain County. Maybe they were living in a neighboring county? If you can help provide further information concerning this family, I would be much appreciative. THANK YOU!

CHUBB, DYER

I'm looking for the parents of Joel CHUBB who married Sarah Ann (Sally) DYER in Geouga, OHIO. Joel was born 1 Aug 1808 in New York. He married Sally DYER 18 November 1832. Their first five children, Claret Ann, Philena Jane, James Harvey, Horace Wheeler and Jsoeph Watson were all born in Lorain, Black River Twp. between 1833 and 1842. By 1843, this family was in Winnebago Co., Illinois. Sarah Ann DYER was the daughter of James DYER. They came from Stockton, Chautauqua, New York. I cannot find James DYER in the 1830 census and wonder if he was in Ohio by then. In the 1820 census he is listed with 7 females, one his wife (age 26-44); two daughters, Sarah and her sister, Lucinda; plus five females (daughters?) that I haven't been able to identify. If Sarah married in Ohio, then isn't it resonable to think one or two of her sisters did too? The unidentified daughters would have been age over 25 in 1830, two between 20 and 25 and two between 10 and 20. Thanks.

GERMOND, WORLINE

The following obituary of George B. GERMOND appeared in the Tiffin Weekly Tribune, Tiffin, Seneca Co., Ohio on 23 Aug 1883. George B. Germond was the son of Isaac Germond and Lydia Raymond Germond. He was born in Fostoria, Ohio in 1850 and died near Oberlin, Lorain Co., OH. I am posting this obituary because there is no official record of his death on file in Lorain County. Although the obituary doesn't mention his survivors, he was survived by his wife, Amanda WORLINE Germond, and daughter, Maudelle Germond (later Maudelle Walk). He was also survived by his mother, Lydia Raymond Germond (1816-1895); his half-brother Granville S. Germond, of Michigan and half-sister, Amanda Germond Willey, of Harlan, IA. He was predeceased by his father, Isaac Germond (1796-1874) and two younger brothers who died as children, Hiram R. Germond (b. abt 1851 d. 1862) and Albert Germond (b. abt.1852 d. 1862) If anyone is researching this family line and wants to exchange information, you can contact me.

"George GERMOND, a pioneer residence of Fostoria, was killed by the cars near Oberlin, O., on Thursday last. He had been to Kipton, five miles west, and when within two miles of Oberlin on his return, sat down on the track and was struck by train No. 15 and instantly killed. His remains were brought to this city* and interred in our cemetery** on Friday afternoon. Germond was for a number of years an attorney in Toledo. A few months ago he removed to Oberlin. The unfortunate man had many warm, charitable friends here, who regret the manner of his untimely taking off." *Fostoria, Ohio, ** Fostoria Fountain Cemetery, 702 Van Buren St., Fostoria, OH 44830 - Sec. A, Lot 246.

MYERS, EPPLER

There is a possibility that a Susan Elizabeth MYERS and Jacob EPPLER were the parents of my Grandmother, Elizabeth Ann MYERS (b March 1886/7) and that she had a brother by the name of Lorin Abram EPPLER ( b ca 27 Nov 1883). NO PROOF as of yet; just coincidental circumstances. Lorin told a similar story to HIS descendants ~ his mother was Susan Elizabeth MYERS (born 30 Mar 1860) and an INDIAN by the name of Jacob EPPLER. Mother remarried a man by the name of J. Russell LAWRENCE (before 1889). Susan lived in Brighton, Lorain County, Ohio and Florence Township, Erie County, Ohio. Children b to her marriage to LAWRENCE include: Margaret ca 1888, Melissa ca 1890, Theodora ca 1892, Lucina ca 1893, Agatha ca 1899, Walter J. Lawrence bc 1900 Other possible MYERS children found on the 1900 Florence Township, Erie County, Ohio Census living in other surname homes included: Montana Myers ca 1878 ~ living with the Parker Family, Arthur Myers ca 1882 ~ living with the Jarrett Family as a laborer, Lorin Eppler ca 1883 was also found on this census living with the CLARY Family as a servant. I'm thinking these three may have been brothers(?) of Elizabeth Ann Myers. If anyone out there knows of a similar story, can place any of the above folks in Stark or Lorain County, or can RULE OUT this possibility by telling me more about about Susan Elizabeth, Jacob EPPLER, Lorin Abram EPPLER or J. Russell LAWRENCE, or any of the folks listed above please feel free to e-mail me. Thanks.

MYERS, HISCOX

I am searching for information on the surname Myers. My great grandmother, Elizabeth Myers, was born March 15, 1887 to a lady she called "(Mrs.) Myers" and "An Indian". According to her there were 8 children born to (Mrs.) Myers. The children were adopted/indentured out when (Mrs.) Myers remarried a gentleman who did not want the responsibility of raising (Mrs.) Myers children. Gramma recalls being born in "New Philadelphia". When she was "adopted" out she lived in Silver Creek, Medina, Ohio with a family by the name of Hiscox. She learned all that she knew of her family of origin from neighbors of her "adopted" family in Medina. I have reason to believe Gramma's biological mother may have lived in Loraine County. If any of this sounds familiar, please feel free to e-mail me. Thanks.

GARAY, CHERVERKA, MOCSNY

I am researching my MOCSNY family who emigrated from Slovakia (then Austria-Hungary) in the early 1900s and lived the rest of their lives in Elyria. I have found my great-grandparents, Andrew and Mary were buried in Ridgelawn Cemetary in the 1930s. Now I am looking for their relatives whose surnames are CHERVENKA (also spelled Cherbank on 1920 census) and GARAY (also seen as Gary). In particular, Rose Garay born in 1877, Helen Chervenka born in 1881, and Louis Chervenka born in 1881, are who I am interested in. Bless you if you can find any of these or others with their surnames. I'm guessing that since they were related, Ridgelawn Cemetary would be a safe bet. Thank you in advance! I wish that I could be there to research in person.
