My 4 g grandfather, Reuben GLEASON (son of Elisha GLEASON and Tamsin HIGGINS) came to Chesterville, Morrow Co. (then known as Miles Crossroads, Knox Co.) in 1816. In 1819 he married Mrs. Olive AUSTIN Dodge, whose family had also come to Knox county around 1808 from Marietta, Washington Co. Both families came from the area of Jamaica, Windham Co., VT. Olive traveled with her "mother", "aunt" or "step mother" Hannah RAND (relationship has not been established yet) and her husband, Mr. Joseph HIGGINS (the uncle of her future husband, Reuben). Reuben and Olive had the following children: Mercy, Elisha B. (my line), John, Asa, Sylvester M., Elizabeth, Joseph, Lucy.

I have much information (back to 16th cent. England) on my Gleasons, but would like to correspond with cousins that might be able to shed some light on Olive's family. Her siblings include: David, Benjamin, Hannah, Isaiah, and Mary. Not much is known of their father and the identity of their mother is in question. It's possible that Hannah Rand Higgins is their mother as she took charge of the children at their father's death, but, she could also be their stepmother, and/or a sister of the children's real mother who married Mr. Austin at his first wife's death.

If anyone has any info on the AUSTIN family, or additional info on the GLEASONS, HIGGINS, et al after their resettlement in Knox Co., please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi Ancestor Hunters,

My name is Hank. I'm retired and I have taken up Genealogy research to keep my sanity and its driving me crazy. Just kidding, I love it. I have two little grand daughters and I think it would be nice for them to some day know their roots. So, I'm asking if some of you good folks out there to give me a hand.

Some of my kin stopped off in Knox County for a generation of two before spreading out over the country. My branch went to Fayette County IL. My Gt.Gt. Grandfather died near Gambier, Ohio. His name was Daniel Marpel JOHNSTON. He married on 8/11/1846 a good looking little gal named Henrietta H. STOCKETT in Knox County Ohio. I have a lot of information on her but nothing on him. They had three children;

Presley Morgan Johnston
Benjamine Franklin Johnston
And Eleanora A. Johnston

Daniel was buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery, 2.5 miles East of Gambier, Ohio. I would like any information on Daniel Marpel Johnston that anyone might have.

Thank you,
Hank

1850 census puts them in Jackson, Knox Co, OH with first son, Urias Dillon THOMPSON, b. 12-9-1849. Found marriage on register for Knox Co but no useful information. No clues to parents, siblings, etc.

Do know that John and Rachel had at least three more children because the obituary for Urias Dillon mentions he is survived by two sisters and one brother. Alas, no names were given.
