My SNYDER family were Brethren, belonged to the Church of Ankneytown, Knox Co, OH around 1830. One brother, Philip probably remained in Knox Co. and members of this family are buried at the Ankneytown Cemetery.

A brother, George, probably remained in the area for some time. He married Christina Stonecipher in Corydon, IN in 1838.

I am searching clues as to the background of these two Snyder brothers who came from France (probably Alsace Lorraine) as young adults.

I hope the Ankneytown Brethren Church membership information may help in this search.

Will appreciate leads or direction. Thanks

In the 1840 Federal census for Knox Co., OH there are five JAMES families living close together: David JAMES b. ca 1775; Edmund JAMES b. ca 1785; James JAMES b. ca 1795; Joseph JAMES b. ca 1805; and Ebenezer JAMES b. ca 1815. These birthyears are based on the census are and +/- 5 years.

Are these families related? Did they settle in Knox Co., OH from Loudoun Co., VA? I would like to have a more complete picture of my 4g-aunt who was Charlotte BRADFIELD who m. David JAMES. The trouble is their are hundreds and hundreds of David JAMESES! But my ancestor, James P. BRADFIELD, settled in Knox County - and I hoped that this would be his sister's family. If anyone connects to this family, I have more information to share.

The three GREER men were brothers and the sons of John and Mary (Critchfield) GREER. Rebecca and Amy were sisters who were the daughters of James P. and Elizabeth (Nichols) BRADFIELD. Was Amanda BRADFIELD also a sister of these two?

Madison and Amy (Bradfield) GREER are my ancestors. I would like to communicate with any researchers of these families in order to have a more complete picture of what happened to my g-grandparents' siblings. And, of course, I am happy to share what information on have on the BRADFIELD, CRITCHFIELD & GREER families.

Hello Maggie,

I am in search of birth information for the following siblings of my ROBERTS line I am researching. I would appreciate a lookup for them on your next visit to the OHS (if possible) as it is my understanding that they hold birth records for Knox Co. for the time frame I am interested in.

Clarence Roberts
born: abt 1889

Vinnie Roberts
born: abt 1891

Ethel Roberts
born: abt. 1895

Tena Roberts
Born: 1900

Pearl Roberts
Born: abt. 1904

All of the above siblings have the same parents. John R. ROBERTS and Nancy J. BENNETT. John also went by Johnny. Birth info on the two oldest siblings of this family was located in Allen County, but a search for the others there came up empty. A marriage record for Vinnie Roberts was located in Allen County and it listed her birth place as Knox County. I am hoping that possibly the other siblings will be located here also.

I appreciate any help you can offer with this.
Thank you.
Kimm :)

Maria(h) Louise Hale (b.1814) married William Stricker (b.1813 PA) abt. 1835? 36?. They had Louisa (1838), Mary(1840), Eva(1842), Silas(1844), William Fletcher(1846) my great grandfather, and Barbara(1852). They left for Viroqua, Wisconsin in 1854 or so where they settled, farmed and died. Their son William stayed in Viroqua all of his life also. Is anyone out there familiar with this family? Who were Mariah's parents? Where is Wayne Township? The elder William Stricker is said to be from Knox County, Ohio and I think his father may also be a William Stricker (I found mention of a probate record for a William Stricker in Knox County in 1849...could this be the head of the family?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for a great site!

James was one of the wardens and vesterymen elected 1828 at Harcourt Parish, College Twp. , Knox Co, and associated with early Kenyon College, as were the Torodes. Maggie, I am having a very difficult time in finding any reference in Knox co. to my wife's great grandfather Lafayette E. MULFORD. here is what I know: He died 21 May 1911and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse NY. Cemetery records indicate that he was born in Gambier Ohio 22 Mar 1839. (Tombstone has that date. ) His death certificate (from Chicago Ill where he died) list's his father as Norman Mulford. (No name for the mother). He married Sarah Jones 13 June 1865 In either Buffalo NY or somewhere in OH. 1850 census has him living with James and Eliza Sealts of Miller Twship, Knox Co. An article written by his only(?) child Henry Jones Mulford in the New York journal of medicine in 1953 (Henry, born 1867, lived to be 92), states that Lafayette ran a pharmacy in Toledo Oh in the late 1860's and early 1870's. Thanks to many of the people listed on your web site and the Knox Co. Genweb site, I have exhausted many avenues in Knox Co. birth, death, marriage and probate records.

Here are a few other facts:
1.On page 393 of A. Banning Norton's " History of Knox Co OH 1779-1862, is listed a MULFORD who was in the boot and shoe line with a Mr.(?) WITT.

2. In the will of Annanias MULFORD ( Knox co court of common pleas, court minutes, vol Q, 1849-1850 pg 46) is listed a James S(e)alts as a back up executor for his will.

3. A curious fact!! In Knox Co during this period there was a man named Lafayette Emmett (pg 255, History of Knox Co. 1803 by N.N. Hill) Lafayette seems to me, to be a rare name, and coupled with the initial E of the last name(and middle initial of my Lafayette) could lead to a possible connection.

I have yet to research any of the churches in the area, and will branch out to surrounding counties.

I realize that this is a lengthy request, but I have been trying to locate parents or siblings for over a year. Any help you can provide, or suggestions for other avenues of research will be greatly appreciated!!. If anyone in your area needs help in western Mass. or Northwestern Conn. please let me know, I will be glad to help.

I know little about my ggggrandparents Margaret Workman and George Keyser except that she was born in Maryland around 1774 and died in Monroe Co, Ohio before 1826. Her husband George Keyser was born in Pa and died in Monroe Co.,Ohio in May 1853. I have noted that many with interest in Knox County, as do I, seem also to have a solid knowledge regarding the Workman family. I would greatly appreciate any information concerning Margaret and her family. Thanks, Don Cliff

Hi,
I am new to the list and I have been following the discussion about the Workman family. I have a mystery Workman whom I think is related to my Waddle/Waddell family.
My ancestor, Doctor Brook Waddle, had in his album a picture of a young man in Civil War uniform. Written on this picture is Isaac Workman - Illinois Infantry.
Doctor Brook Waddle, born 1827 - 1828 Mt. Vernon, Knox Co., Ohio was the son of David and Sarah ( Waddle ) Waddle. David and Sarah Waddle are buried Shadley Valley Cemetery near Jelloway, Knox Co., Ohio.
Does anyone know of this Civil War soldier, Isaac Workman? What relation is he to the Waddles/Waddells?
Sincerely,
Grace Patterson

Dear Maggie,

JOHN and EVE COLEMAN LAPE moved from Somerset County, Pa. to Brown Township Knox County, Ohio.

JOHN LAPE died before 1850. The 1850 Knox County Census shows EVE COLEMAN LAPE (born Pa.) and 12 children born in Knox County, Ohio. The children listed : JULIA ANN, SARAH, ELLEN, SUSAN, JOHN, NANCY, WILLIAM, RACHEL, CATHERINE, FRANK, ELIZABETH, AND EBINEZER.

EVE's brother FREDERICK COLEMAN (born Pa.) was also listed in the 1850 Census.

JOHN and EVE LAPE must have lived very close to the Knox/Richland County line as old correspondence states they used the Butler Post Office - Richland County, Ohio.

We know that JOHN and EVE's daughter ELLEN married CALEB LEMLEY in 1852. They had 3 children . In 1856, CALEB AND ELLEN, their children, ELLEN's brothers JOHN and FRANK and sister RACHEL moved to Iowa. ELLEN AND CALEB's youngest daughter ELIZA ANN died on the trip.

My GGrandfather was FRANK. I'm trying to find out what happened to the rest of the family. Did they stay in Ohio? We know nothing about the families before 1850. I would appreciate any information. THANKS.

My research list: LAPE/COLEMAN/ BOSWELL/ CALLISTER/ and CROW.

Trying to research the family of HOOVLER. Have information that they were located in Knox County Ohio in mid-1850's. John HOOVLER was born in 1816 in Stark County, Ohio. Married Elizabeth ALBRIGHT. Children were as follows: Charles Alphus (b.2/16/1857-d.12/31/1933), Marie, Abraham, William Henry (b.8/16/1857-d.4/27/1935), Jacob (b.11/9/1842-d.9/16/1913), George, Elsworth (b.5/14/1861-5/19/1928), Issac (b.11/20/1850-d.7/11/1915), Harriet and John. I believe most if not all of the children were born and died in Knox County, Ohio. I have been doing some research of my family and have traced most of my forefathers back to Beaver & Mercer Counties, PA. There were however, some of my relatives that did move to Ohio around the early 1800's. Trying to find out if the HOOVLER's from Knox County, Ohio are related somehow to the HOOVLER's from Beaver & Mercer Counties, PA.
Will be most gratefull for any information received. Will share all information if needed.
Thanks in advance for all help!
Sincerly, Michael J. Hoovler
