Below is information I have on five Joslins whom I believe to be brothers. Riley and William were neighbors in Knox Co OH in 1830 while Josiah was listed in the same township. William and Josiah filed land patents on the same day in 1834 in Shelby Co IN about 2 years after Isaac was married there. Isaac & Josiah were neighbors in the 1870 Andrew Co MO census. Sounds like family to me. I have numbered the five suspected brothers according to age.

1. Re: Riley Joslin, b. c. 1795

Household #148
JOSLIN, Riley 55 farmer PA

Elvira 22 OH

Rachel 8 MO

5. Jonathan 32 OH

I believe Josiah had son William as well who is not listed here.
(Jonathan is Josiah Sr.'s brother, by the way, which you'll see later.)
The Mortality Schedule collected with the 1850 census (giving deaths during the last 12 months) gives these deaths. Eli Joslin, died May 1850; Mrs. Rhody Joslin, died May 1850, age 22; and John K. Joslin, died Aug 1850. I believe strongly that Eli is a son of Josiah, know that John K. is the son of Josiah, and feel certain that Rhoda is the wife of Jonathan.

Andrew Co MO Will dated 4 Feb 1851, filed 8 Mar 1851 for Jonathan Joslin. Leaves brother Josiah appointed executor of Will and guardian of his infant daughter, Margaret Mary Elvira Rody Joslin. [I don't know where this baby was in the 1850 census-- farmed out with somebody, no doubt, as her mother Rhoda was already dead, and apparently her father, Jonathan, going fast.]

Isaac had son William living next door to him. There was a William in household #162 and #164 I believe. Brother Josiah lived in Household #161.

I am hoping to tie these brothers into a NJ Joslin family and then back to there immigrant ancestor. Can anyone help?

Time to quit lurking and ask a Knox Co question, I guess - looking for any information on JORDAN in Knox Co/Mt. Vernon area around 1870s. Great grandmother Etta MAHAFFEY married a Jordan, first name unknown, probably in or near Knox county. She was listed as a widow with a child by 1880 cenus. So far, nada - no birth record for my grandfather, Charles Sheridan Jordan, no marriage record for Etta, no will/probate that seems to pertain - I did find a Jacob Jordan who died about the right time, but his will gave no mention of Etta or Charles.

Possible Etta married elsewhere and returned to her home area near Mt. Vernon after husband's death - I have good info on her family, the Mahaffeys, but welcome ANY bright ideas for the Jordan side.

Thanks,
Dixie Jordan
