Surnames: HILDEBRAND, TAYLOR
Researcher: Kay Richards Hampshire
Email: [email protected]
Date posted: Sunday, December 21, 1997

WAGON TRAIN FROM KNOX, OH to FAYETTE, IL - I show that my ancestors, Rebecca HILDEBRAND (b. 12/15/1817) and William W. TAYLOR (they were married 3/2/1848) traveled by WAGON TRAIN from Knox County, OH to Fayette County, IL and settled on a farm in Louden Township, Fayette County, IL 1851. It appears that several other families traveled at the same time - so I am assuming they were in the same wagon train. Does anyone have information about why they all left Knox County and why they chose Fayette County? What route they took?

Surnames: ROOD, RUDE
Researcher: Robert D. Rhude
Email: [email protected]
Date posted: Tuesday, December 23, 1997

I am researching the RUDE/ROOD surname and was led to Knox County, Ohio, by an early 1800s census report. My ancestor is Barzilla RUDE and a Barzilla RUDE appears in numerous personal property tax registers for Wayne Township in Knox County between the years 1820 and 1834. Because my g-g-grandfather Barzilla was married in Washington County, Indiana, in 1829, I don't believe this is the same person but they must surely be related as I have never seen the name Barzilla anywhere else. Those same tax roles show a Samuel RUDE and a Noah RUDE also lived in Wayne Township during those years. Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you have information to share on this surname. --Robert D. Rhude
