Robert, his wife, Emma, and sons William and Erick went to Knox, County, Ohio, in 1854. Robert had some relationshio with Arichbold McKay who aslo went to Springfield with his wife Jessy and two children around 1854. They also came from Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Robert may have had brothers and sisters who went to California around the same time period. Robert was engaged in building the railroad beds and bridge abutments in Clark, Knox, and Holmes Counties, Ohio.
