Louise was Bertha's mother. The Justice family were long time residents of Mingo Junction

Bertha Justice was the daughter of Charles and Louise (Laase) Justice. She was born in 1898 in a house on McLister Street in Mingo. The other two are unidentified. She was a graduate of Mingo High School. Bertha married George H. Crooks in 1918 and later married Robert C. Peck in 1927. She lived in Altoona, PA from 1936-1957 at which point she moved back to Steubenville from 1957 to 1972. She died in Spokane, Washington in 1992 and is buried in the Alto-Rest Cemetery in Altoona, PA.

Charles Justice was born in 1866 in Beverly, Ohio but moved to Steubenville just after 1880. Charles was the son of Elizabeth Sharrer. He married Louise Laase daughter of Charles and Caroline (Schantz) Laase in 1890. Their first three children were born in Steubenville but the next three were born in Mingo where the children attended school. He worked for the Carnegie Mill from the time he was a teenager. At the time of his death in 1962, he had been a resident of Mingo for over seventy years. Charles and Louise were the parents of six children.







Charles and Caroline Laase

Charles Laase was born in Glocksin, Mecklenberg, (modern Germany) in 1845. He was the son Johann Heinrich and Caroline (Kulow) Laase. He emigrated to Wheeling in 1864 and married another German immigrant named Caroline Schantz born October 10 1842 in Etschberg, Bavaria, (modern Germany) daughter of Peter and Phillippa (Bertram) Schantz. They raised their seven children in Wheeling but moved to Mingo sometime before 1898. Charles Laase died in 1917 and Caroline died in 1922. They are buried in unmarked graves George�s Run Cemetery in Harmony along with two of their young grandchildren Mildred Justice (1902-1902) and Charles Justice Jr (1895-1896). Charles and Caroline Laase were the parents of seven children.

Taken in the late 1950�s, Charles and Louise Justice lived in various houses in Steubenville and Mingo before buying the property at 105 Peeler Street in Mingo. Louise died in 1959 and Charles in 1962. Both are buried at the Union Cemetery in Steubenville. They attended the Potter Memorial United Presbyterian Church.







Edward L. Justice, Sr.

The youngest child of Charles and Louise (Laase) Justice was born in Mingo in 1904. He married Dorothy Jean Neel in 1929. Edward graduated from Mingo High School and later attended Emery University where he became a doctor. He eventually settled in Weirton, WV and was well known for his medical practice.







May Justice

May was the daughter of Charles and Louise Justice. She was born in Steubenville in 1892 and died in California in 1970. She was an operator for the CD Telephone Company for several years. She married Wes Cosser from Wheeling and later Herrick Vail Johnson in Texas. She was a graduate of Mingo High School.
