I am seeking information on Albert BROOKS who lived in Wellston during the period 1882-1886 (e.g., when he was born, his occupation, and his date of death). Albert BROOKS married Mary HUTCHINSON (born 1862 in Ohio) on April 27, 1882 in Athens Township of Athens County. They moved to Wellston and had three daughters Maude S. BROOKS (born October 3, 1882), Mayme BROOKS (born 1884), and Ethel May BROOKS (born March 30, 1886). Albert BROOKS was my great grandfather, and Maude S. BROOKS was my grandmother. I have checked the 1900 Census and am unable to find an Albert BROOKS married to a wife Mary living in Wellston.

Is there anyone out there who knows anything about Loma CAMPBELL who married Carl CONGER? Loma died in 1972 in Gallipolis, Ohio. Carl CONGER at age 73 passed away in Jackson Co., Ohio. I was told that they had 6 children, one who was named Carl J. CONGER who was born Sept. 21, 1922 in Wellston, Jackson Co., Ohio, he died in a nursing home Jan 12, 1993.

I am looking for any information on this family. Mary GUTHRIE married Fred WESSELL in Lawrence Co, Ohio around 1900. They had a daughter, Nellie B. WESSELL,{July 20, 1904}. Fred died in Wellston,Ohio. She then had two girls by Henry CLARK. Their names were Susie {Abt 1907} and Lenora Constance CLARK {1909}. She then had a son by the name of John Peter Hayburn. Born ??, died in 1964 in Columbus,Ohio. He did not belong to a Hayburn. I believe he was a DAVIDISON. My grandmother did not raise these children, reason unknown. She later married Thomas Lafayette HAYBURN {September 30, 1915} in Jackson, Ohio. I would like to know what happen to these children. My mother never talked much about her past. Just that she had three half-sister's. She knew John Peter. Please help.

I recently purchased property in Wellston and understand that it used to be the site of the Jake Rapp Park in the 1900's throughtout the 1920's. Reminants of the park remain on my property today. I know Henry was in Wellston, Ohio as early as before 1920. Henry was a coal minor. I have researched the 1920, 1910, and 1900 censuses and information became more and more vague. Henry had siblings: John, Frank, Dora, Michell (Or Michael, Mike). The KLEINHANS surname may have derived from KLEINHAUS. KLEINHANS ancestors before Henry (Such as his parents) are a mystery to me. Any information would be helpful to my research.

I am looking for my husband's great-great-grandmother. Her maiden name was Ann (or Anna) MCNEAL. I have some conflicting records for her birth date. I think she was born May 8 (or 5th), 1845 or 1847. Her parents names were Joseph and Ann MCNEAL, and she was born in Jackson County, Ohio, probably on the family farm. My problem is that the birth records don't go back this far. I wonder if anyone might have come across this name in any of their research, or if anyone has any idea where I can look for more information? She married Emanuel LINGLE in Iowa and later died and was buried in Great Falls, Montana.

John Wiley COLLINS was born March 12, 1883, Boyd County, KY. He owned a farm and farmland in Wellston OH, but also worked for the railroad. I have his ss# as 718-16-1348, Issued Railroad before 1951, died March 20, 1978 Jackson, OH. Alice Belle MARTIN COLLINS was born November 29, 1883 Boyd County KY near Ashland. She passed away in the 1960's with cancer.

William died between April 1866 and June 8, 1870 in Jackson, Lawrence or Scioto, Co., OH. May be buried in Hale's Creek Cemetery in eastern Scioto Co. between South Webster and the Jackson Co. line. (Have been unable to locate cemetery.) William's children were Benjamine W. WALK(E) b. Boyd Co., KY, Isabelle WALK KAYE and Jacob WALK WOLF(E) both born in Lawrence Co., OH. Anna remarried 4-17-1873 to Alamander WOLF(E) in Jackson Co., OH. She died in 1901 and is buried in Monroe Cemetery near Oak Hill in Jackson Co. under the name of Ann/Anna WALKE.

Emily married 24 Dec 1877 Brice WHALEY, he died 1881. their two children were Benjamin and Henry. Benjamin WHALEY married Dora WEAVER, his second married to 1916 Glady FOSTER. Henry WHALEY born 1881 died 1913. Emily NUNNIMAKER WHALEY had 3 more children: Edgar Arthur WHALEY born c. 1890; and a set of twins William R and Lida Mae WHALEY born March 1894. Father listed as James WANGLER. The last 3 children was giving up by their mother. William R WHALEY was adopted by James and his wife Lotta FOSTER. Lida & Edgar was place at the Franklin children home. It is said Lida ended up in a reformatory for girls at an early age. Did Lida Mae ever married & had children.

I am looking for my Gr. Gr. Grandmothers family. I found an article in the Wellston Telegram from 1923 which told of an accident that involved Charles FRIEND. He is my Gr. Gr. Grandmother's brother. Her name is Lydia FRIEND GILLILAND. He was ran over by a train on the B & O railroad in Oak Hill, Ohio. he was visiting his sisters at the time. Mrs Ruhanna (Roy) GILLILAND and Mrs. Eliza MOORE. He also had 3 more sisters Mrs Rachael ( John B.) GILLILAND, Mrs. Jessie KISOR of Wellston, Mrs. Evelyn CUPP of Columbus and two Brothers: William of Columbus and Stewart of Yeager, West Virginia. His mother was living in Coalton at the time. Her name was listed as Mrs. Wm FERRIS. He also had one son, Charles Jr. who lived near Lawrence Furnace. He was buried next to his father in Jonestown cemetary. I would like to find out where this cemetary is. Lydia was married to Noah GILLILAND. Noah, Roy and John B. were brothers. John B. and Rachael lived on Prices Switch Rd. in between Jackson and Coalton. Lydia and Noah lived in Cliffmore, West Virginia. I would appreciate any information on any of these people.

I need help with my "brick wall." This couple had their first child in Gallia County. He was George G. SCOTT, b. 05-13-1871, so if a marriage took place in Gallia County, it has yet it materialize. The possibility that the couple did not marry for some time is strong. David's parents, Jefferson SCOTT and Caroline HOCKADAY (both of Halifax, NC) did not marry until 1884, forty years after their youngest child was born. FHL Film 1255036 National Archives Film T9-1036 Page 157D, has the couple in Madison, OH, (Jackson County) (but without George). Were David and Mary Ellen Johnson married in Jackson County? The couple are both buried in Fountain Cemetery in Fostoria. I have death records on both, have names of all eighteen of their children, but I do not know of Mary's parents, when, where, or if she and David have a marriage record. Any help would be great help!

It is located in the Jackson County court house, very close to the very top of their files. I was there many years ago but for some reason we couldn't get a copy (copier was broke or something). She passed away in 1885, and is buried with Sylvanus BENSON in Evergreen Cem.
