SURNAMES: FOSTER
We have traced my husband's family to the early 1800's in Jackson Co., in Washington Township or Franklin Township. On one of the census records a "Job Foster-Revolutionary War Pensioner" caught our attention. He was listed before Samuel Foster whom we assume is his son...but don't know for sure. We are trying to find out more about him--his children, wife, date of birth and death. We found his application for a pension in the National Archives. He served in the 9th Virginia Line under Col. Campbell. The Pension Application was filed in Scioto Co., Ohio in 1818. In 1902 a decendent wrote the Archives asking for info about Job Foster. The letter indicates he died in Jackson Co. in the 1840's. Any information about this man would be wonderful! Linda Foster, 3220 Green Meadows Dr., Indian Head, MD 20640.

I do not know, but suspect his father may have been John Burris, perhaps the same John Burris who is shown on an early Fred Hughes Map of Surry Co., NC, having purchased land in that county during 1784 on or near Bryan Stork Creek. At nearly the same time, William Burris is shown to own a land grant on both sides of the Tarrarat River, located in the southeast corner of Surry County, NC.
