Samuel and Azubah (Bailey) Ward migrated to Fitchville Township, Huron County, Ohio in 1830 from Oneida County, NY. The journey was by river, canal, lake boat and wagon. Azubah Bailey, wife of Samuel Ward was born on 15 April 1793, the daughter of carpenter, Vine Bailey, b 15 Nov. 1771, Groton, CT, and his wife, Patty Woodward, born 21 August 1774 in Preston Twp., Oneida Co., New York. Patty’s parents, were Abisha Woodward, an architect, and Mary Spicer who were married on 20 May 1774 in Preston, CT. Abisha Woodward built the standing New London, CT, Lighthouse, and was also a Rev. War Veteran. He was one of the men who purchased land in northern Ohio for the benefit of widows and orphans of the Revolution. Patty’s siblings included Amos, Gurdon & Betsey of Lyme Township and Bellevue, Ohio. Mary Spicer’s parents were American Rev. Capt. Oliver Spicer and Alithea Allyn who were married 15 August 1749 in Groton, CT. Azubah’s great-great grandfather was MAYFLOWER pilgrim Thos. Rogers.

Their daughter, Adeline E. Ward, married Alexander Hamilton Fox on 30 December 1857 in Huron County, Ohio. Alexander, a Civil War Veteran, was born in Rochester, NY, on 27 June 1832. His parents were Asher, a blacksmith by trade, and Teresa M. (Tucker) Fox. Adeline E. Ward’s forebears were Lexington Minuteman David Ward, Jr., who was born November 1753 in Worcester, MA. David’s wife was Mary Austin who was born on 8 July 1766 in Winchester , CT. The couple were married on 1 January 1874. Mary Austin’s father was David Austin, Sr, a Pvt in the Rev. War. He was born on the 16 July 1734 in Mansfield, CT. She also descended from David Ward, Sr., Richard and Lydia Wheelock of Worcester, MA, Obadiah and Joanna Mixer, Richard (1635-66) and Mary Moore, and Wm. and Elizabeth of Sudbury, MA. This family included the 1st Commander-in Chief of the American Revolution, General Artemas Ward, and early American Naval Hero Aaron Ward.
