Berwell R. THOMAS

Berwell R. THOMAS died Aug. 11, 1944, at his home in Collins. He was born Dec. 29, 1861, in East Townsend and was identified with community interests all his life. He graduated from Valparaiso College and taught in the local schools for a number of years. He was especially interested in Historical research and was recognized as authority in Indian life; he played in carious local orchestras and was a well known soloist. He served on the East Townsend school board, was president of the local telephone exchange for a number of years, was a member of the Townsend Grange and a life member of the Firelands Historical Society. Survivors include on son Elmslie of Collins; two daughters, Miss Crilla B. THOMAS at home and Mrs. Lucien C. BLACK of New Castle, Pa.; three grand children.

Services were held the afternoon of Aug. 14 at the late home, the Rec. F. E. EASTMAN officiating. Burial was in East Townsend Cemetery
