Judge Chas. Suhr, Dean of Huron Co. Attorneys, Dies

Charles Suhr, 82, dean of practicing attorneys in Huron county, died at 4 a.m. Sunday at his home, 17 South Garden St. He was born in Norwalk and spent his entire life here.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Liable Funeral Home. The Rev. Stanley Stall of the Universalist church will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Members of the Huron Co. Bar Association, of which Mr. Suhr was a member, are to be pall bearers.
Mr. Suhr is survived by his four children, Karl and James V. of Cleveland, Marion of Norwalk and Chas. D of Toledo, and a sister Mary Sims of Fresno, Cal. His wife Millie A. preceded him in death.
The son James, who is an attorney, is a former Ohio department commander of the American Legion.
Mr. Suhr, a three-term Huron Co. probate judge preceded the late A. E. Rowley in that office. He was elected in 1903 and served three two year terms.
For a number of terms preceding 1930, Mr. Suhr served as Norwalk city solicitor, being succeeded by Atty. Rex F. Bracy.
The decedent was a life member of the Elks and for 50 years, was recorder of the local Maccabee organization.
During his term of solicitor, the sensational case in which an averred Toledo bond buyer made way with nearly $53,000 in Norwalk East Main St. paving bonds developed.  At the time, Mr. Suhr strongly counseled against the procedure through which the city suffered this financial loss.
Mr. Suhr received his advanced education at Kenyon College. During his career he was a studious and sincere lawyer, and continued to advance steadily in his profession. In his advanced years. He drew from a rich store of experience gained in private practice and in his service as a public official. This, combined with the advantage of mature judgment, enabled him to give high quality legal service until his recent illness terminated his activities.
The passing of Judge Suhr has removed from the community one of its finest and most valued citizens. His friends were uncommonly numerous and loyal.
