Charles Atherton

   So they go ~ Charles Atherton, a young man who has been serving his country in the Navy of our inland waters, died on his way home from Cairo, Ill., to Peru, in this county, and his body arrived in this village on Friday evening of last week, accompanied by his father.  Thus pass away our noble countrymen, victims to the foul rebellion which has darkened our whole land.  "May their blood be an offering to heaven" and the nation come purified from the fiery ordeal.
