Cecil G. Atherton

    Peru -- Cecil G. Atherton, 77, of Peru Township, died Thursday afternoon as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Ohio 61 in Greenfield Township.

    A lifelong Peru Township resident, Mr. Atherton had lived in the same home where he was born.

    He was a 1938 graduate of Monroeville High School and had attended Ohio State University.  He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.  He worked in farming all his life, and raised and showed draft horses in the Huron County and Ohio State fairs.

    He was a school bus driver for 33 years for Willard City Schools, and was a member of the Firelands Historical Society and the Huron County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.

    He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ann (SirLouis) Atherton; sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Rosemary Atherton of Upper Arlington, and Jonathan and Sherry Atherton of Newfield N.Y.; daughters, Rebecca A. Williams of Lebanon, Cheryl J. Jordan of Blanchester, Elizabeth A. Matthews of Bucyrus, and Corinna C. Bennett of Hudson; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil G. and Nettie (Evarts) Atherton Sr.; and sisters, Blanche Sheffield, Marian Glidden and Annabelle Joki.

   Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Kubach-Smith Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Joanne Maerkisch officiating.  Burial will be in Brightman Cemetery, Bronson Township.
