Annabelle May (Atherton) Joki

   Ashtabula -- Annabelle (Atherton) Joki, 87, of Ashtabula, died June 21 at her home after a long illness.

   Mrs. Joki was born March 3, 1910, in Peru Township, where her ancestors had settled in 1832.

   She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1928 and attended Bowling Green State University.  She received a degree in education at Ohio University.

   She taught in a one-room school house in Greenfield Township for two years then at North Fairfield High School for two years.  She went on to teach at Edgemont and Ashtabula high schools in Ashtabula.

   She married the late Erick Joki in 1940.  they owned and operated Joki's Pharmacy from 1943 to 1970.

   She was a world traveler, and a member of the Altrusa Club and First Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula.

   She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Ann Atherton of rural Monroeville, and many nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Nettie (Evarts) Atherton; and sisters, Blanche Sheffield and Marian Glidden.

   The funeral and internment were held Wednesday in Ashtabula.
