The Huron County Chapter of OGS is dedicated to furthering quality genealogical and family history research in Huron County. To achieve this goal, the chapter concentrates on education and records preservation.

The chapter offers occasional genealogy classes for both the beginning and intermediate researcher; advises county 4-H members on genealogical projects for the Huron County Fair; sponsors special workshops,  and lectures; provides a variety of speakers and programs at monthly meetings; and organizes library research trips. In addition, experienced members are willing to share their knowledge and to assist other members with difficult problems or stumbling blocks.

In an effort to preserve much of the valuable genealogical and historical information within the county, the chapter has many on-going  transcription projects. Several publications are complete and available through the chapter. Among the various other research tools offered by the chapter are the Kinologist, a quarterly newsletter which contains research, extractions, articles of local interest, and queries; the Ancestor File, which houses surname cards and pedigree charts; and First Families, which recognizes well-documented genealogies of members with ancestors in the early years of the county, and Civil War Families, which recognizes well-documented genealogies of members with ancestors who served on either side of the conflict.

The membership year runs from January 1st to December 31st. Anyone joining after October 1st of that calendar year, will become a member for the next membership year. Regular meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month except December, when there is no meeting.
