The GIES family lived in Lutzelbourg, Lorraine France. The region is located north- East of France. Its borders consisted of Alsace, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg . On August 26, 1793, Mathias GIES and Anna Maria CARABIN were married in Lutzelbourg, Lorraine, France. Im not sure where Mathias GIES was born or who his parents were. He died March 18, 1808 and is buried in Lorraine, France. Anna Maria CARABIN was born January 2, 1773 in Lutzelbourg, Lorraine, France. She was the daughter of Clement CARABIN and Agnes VARIES. Anna Maria (CARABIN) GIES died on October 27, 1847 in Bronson Township, Huron County , Ohio. She is buried at Sts Alphonsus Catholic Church Cemetery. They had 5 children one of them being Joseph GIES whom is my 3d Great Grandfather.

My 3rd great-grandfather Joseph GIES was born on March 9, 1801 in Lutzenbourg, Lorraine, France. He married Cresentia KAISER on February 18, 1828 in Lutzenbourg, Lorraine, France. At his time, I dont have any further information about Cresentia or her family. Joseph and Cresentia (KAISER) GIES and their baby daughter Catherine left France from the port of LaHavre, aboard the ship Antioch. After several week of voyage on the Atlantic Ocean, they arrived at the Port of New York on August 18, 1829.

After arrival Joseph, Cresentia, and Catherine traveled to Bronson Township, Huron County, Ohio, to make their new home. They most likely chose this region to live in, as Josephs uncle, Joseph CARABIN, and family had already settled in Bronson in 1828. Sometime between 1829 to 1834 Joseph purchased 104 acres of property from John Waggoner. Joseph and Cresentia had 7 children Catherine, Mary, Michael, Caroline Mary, Theresa, Joseph and Magdalena all born in Bronson Township, except the oldest child, Catherine, was born in France.

Caroline Mary GIES, my 2nd great grand-mother married Michael GALLAM on December 1, 1859 in Sts Alphonsus Catholic Church, Bronson Township, Huron County Ohio. Caroline Mary GIES was born November 22, 1835 in Bronson Township, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph and Cresentia GIES. Michael GALLAM was born around 1829 I think in Alsace Lorraine, France. I dont have any information on him or his parents. Upon the death of Caroline Mary (GIES) GALLAM and her father Joseph GIES, my 3rd great-grandfather, the property was willed to my 2nd great-grandfather Michael GALLAM between May and June 1863. They lived and farmed the property with their 8 children, Magdalene, Frank, Edward, Joseph, Amelia Isabelle, John, Albert and Charles.

Edward GALLAM, my great-grandfather, was born December 6, 1868 in Bronson Township, Huron Co., Ohio . Edward was baptized at St Alphonsus Church. He received his first Communion on April 23 1868 at St Alphonsus from Father M. Dechant. Edward GALLAMs father, Michael GALLAM, died in November 10, 1900 in Bronson Township and is buried in St Alphonsus Cemetery. Caroline Mary (GIES) GALLAM died April 1, 1914 in Bronson Township were she lived her entire life. Caroline is also buried at St Alponsus Cemetery next to her husband, Michael. Edward GALLAM married Anna Mae MILLER in Litchfield in Medina County , Ohio January 7, 1897. Anna Mae MILLER was born in Grafton, Lorain County, Ohio on November 11, 1871. Her parents were Mathias and Mageline (NEFF) MILLER. Edward and Anna Mae (MILLER) GALLAM moved back to Norwalk, Huron County, Ohio. Edward & Anna Mae GALLAM had 4 children. Alna, Edwin, Arthur and Verna. Only two children, Arthur and Verna, lived to adulthood. My Grandparents were Arthur GALLAM & Anna Mae (MILLER) GALAM. Anna Mae died on December 12, 1930 in Norwalk, OH and is buried in St Paul Catholic Cemetery. Edward GALLAM died November 22, 1955 in Norwalk, OH and is buried in St Paul s Cemetery next to his wife.
