1873 Business Directory for Huron County, Ohio

Transcribed by Ken Shute

Of the three land ownership Atlases for Huron County, Ohio (Plat Book of 1845, Atlases of 1873 and 1891), only the Atlas of 1873 also contains business directories for the Huron County towns of that period.

The following 1873 Business Directory consists of 284 entries for 20 towns and all but two townships (Hartland and Richmond). While this Directory doesn't show names and map locations of land owners in 1873, it does give a unique window for the researchers whose ancestors made up the business class of 1873 across Huron County. The occupations are wide- ranging, including merchants, blacksmiths, shoemakers, farm implement dealers, stock breeders, druggists, machinists, mill owners, bankers.

The Directory appears in the following format:

1. Name of businessman (listed alphabetically).
2. Name of town.
3. Name of township (abbreviated as given below)
4. Page number of 1873 Atlas on which the business ad appears.
5. Text of the business ad (may be edited to fit data format).

Township abbreviations are:

FI- Fitchville RC- Richmond
