Pioneers & Settlers

The prime objective of the Pioneers & Settlers of Hancock County is to honor the memory of the early inhabitants of Hancock County and their contributions to the development of the county, by honoring their descendents.

The research necessary to prove descent is intended to stimulate increasing interest in the pioneers & settlers of this county and its customs, culture, genealogy and history.

It is crucial that all applicatants follow the Rules of Evidence as defined on pages 3 & 4 of each application. Be sure to complete the sections on page 2 listing the descent and the permission portion. Failure to follow these steps will result in your application being rejected.

Any member of the Hancock County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society who is a direct decendent of an individual who settled in the area of Ohio now known as Hancock County prior to December 31, 1845, may become a member of the Pioneer Families of Hancock County.

Any member of the Hancock County Chaper of the Ohio Genealogical Society who is a direct decendent of an individual who settled in Hancock County betwe January 1, 1846 and December 31, 1865 is eligible to become of member of the Settlers of Hancock County.
