Research Policy and Services

This page is for those wanting research done on one surname with one given name from the files and books, etc. that the society has in their library. This research will be done for a fee of $10.00.

If you want a free lookup from volunteers, who will look through the books they have listed for a name. Please go to the following link. Harrison County Lookups

We expect the following from those asking for information and research:

• A good copy of your Ancestor charts from yourself back to the Ancestor you are seeking

• The time period your Ancestor was in Harrison County & township they were in.

• A background of sources where you have searched & results: Census, County Histories, Family genealogy books, Etc. (PLEASE TELL US THIS, VERY IMPORTANT.)

• If personal knowledge of the family is known in one of our family history books on our shelves in our genealogical library you will be advised as to the title, author & address if it can still be purchased. If it is no longer under copyright we will copy the pages for you

• A copy of the information on your family if they were written up in other county or state histories.

• obituaries (if available) showing a connection to Harrison County.

• Can we share your information by copying for others? (At times you may be in the process of doing family history, which will cost you money for copies & research). You may just want us to have those interested contact you.

We  do not research outside of our library. (Note: If we do not have  copies of material that you are asking for, you will have to find a paid researcher to find that material. We do not do Court House research for you. Please allow at least 6 weeks to answer, as we are only volunteers. We are a non-profit organization with income only from memberships, selling our publications & donations.

A check made out to HARRISON COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY FOR for a donation of $10.00, for ONE surname with one given name  (John Doe) to be searched/researched. (If wanting research on the wife or husband of the ancestor also, it will be an additional $10.00) for that surname and given name. (The research/search per surname is NOT REFUNDABLE).

A large S.A.S.E (self-addressed stamped business size envelope is required. After the search of one or both surnames,  you will be notified as to the amount of pages, 20 cents a page for regular copies & $1.00 a page for Archive copies if found, plus postage. When we receive your check for the copies, we will mail out the material ASAP.  PLEASE NOTE; (This $10.00 donation does not give you the many privileges of membership in the Harrison County Genealogical Society).
