Is here by given, that pursuant to an order of the Court of common pleas of
Harrison county, Ohio - will be offered for sale on the premises, on Monday the
25th of February next, the N. East quarter of section 34, in township 10, of the
6th range, situated on the Cambridge road, at Big Stillwater, in said Harrison
county - late the property of Thomas Birch, decease. Said tract of land is of a
good quality, well improved and situated for a tavern stand; and will be sold
subject to the Widow's right of dower in the same.

NOTICE
Is Hereby Given, that pursuant to an order of the Court of common pleas of
Harrison county, Ohio - made at the July term thereof, A.D. 1821, I shall expose
to public sale on Friday the first day of March next, 50 acres of land lying in
section #20, of township 22, (Green Township) and range 4. In Steubenville
district and being the plantation on which the late Jacob Riegel resided
previous to his decease. There is on this land a good Sugar camp, and about 30
acres cleared -- a good Spring, with convenient buildings, & c. Also, lot #43
in the town of Jefferson, Sale to be at the house, on the premises, at ten
o'clock, A.M. where terms will be made known.

$50.00 REWARD
Runaway from Cadiz, on Monday night the 25th inst. Matthew Coltrap, about 21
years of age, lame in the left leg, which is so much contracted as to make him
about one foot lower than his usual height when walking; remarkable thin visage,
of a swarthy complexion, very black, hair, took with him a frock coat and a pair
of overhauls, both made of blue broad cloth, one black silk jacket and two other
light colored ones, -- by trade a shoemaker. He was put in jail to await a
trial on an indictment for forgery, and was bailed out by Mr. Thomas Phillips,
(who is now in pursuit of him,) in a bond $800. Any person who will bring him
back or lodge him in any jail where he can be demanded will confer a favor on
community and be reasonably rewarded.

under the act of the sate of Ohio, entitled an act of the relief of Insolvent
Debtors - - it is ordered by the Court, that notice of the pendency of this
petition be given in a newspaper printed in Cadiz, three weeks successively, at
least 60 days before the next term of said Court, and that a final decision will
be made on ??? petition at the next term of said Court to be holden in Cadiz, on
Monday the 6th day of May, 1822.

State of Ohio, Harrison County, Joseph Gill, vs John Bush an absconding debtor.
Attachment Debt
Whereas, heretofore, to wit, on the 4th day of January, A.D. 1822, a writ of
Attachment was sued out of the Court of Common Pleas for said County, in favor
of Joseph Gill, against the goods and chattels, rights, credits, monies and
effects as well as the lands, tenements, and real estate of John Bush, an
absconding debtor, of a plea of debt, of $143.69, damages $50.00 returnable to
this court, which has been duly served and returned according to law.
NOTICE
Is therefore, Hereby, Given,
That, unless the said John Bush be and appear before the court of Common Pleas
in said count, enters an appearance to said suit, puts in special bail, and
received a de?? claration, judgment will be rendered against him on his default.

STOP THE THIEF
100 Dollars Reward
On the night of the 26th ult. I was robbed in a small village called Jefferson,
in Harrison county Ohio, of about $900, seven hundred and forty dollars of which
was in ten dollar notes, on the Farmers and Mechanics Bank of Steubenville. The
man who robbed me, was my bedfellow, and called himself Edward Johnson. He is
about five feet eleven inches high, of a dark sandy complexion, had on at that
time a half-worn fur hat, blue coat, black vest, dark grey pantaloons, and
Jefferson boots. He appeared to be about 30 - 35 years of age and of tolerable
good appearance. The above reward will be given to any person who will secure
him, so that I can get my money again. Adam Johnson

appertaining to their profession, under the firm of Tappan & Dewey.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN,
To all persons concerned, that the notes given at the sale of the personal
property of the late John Hooey, deceased, will become due on the 10th day of
July, inst. at which time punctual payment will be required, or immediately
thereafter said notes will be put in suit, as it is impossible doing justice to
the creditors of said estate, to give further indulgence.

TO THE PUBLIC
About the 8th or 9th of March last, a man came to the house of the subscriber,
and passed on from that to the house of John Winings Sen. In Green township
Harrison county, Ohio and there died very suddenly. He called himself John
Robison, and said he was a distiller, and came from Lancaster PA. He had a
small black mare, supposed to be about three years old, and an old saddle and
pare of saddle bags. He has been decently buried and his effects have been
sold. There will be a small balance left after paying all expenses, which his
friends, if he has any, can have on applying to the subscriber

10 DOLLARS REWARD
Broke the jail of Harrison county Ohio, on the night of the 5th inst. a certain
Ebenezer Maxwell, who was indicted and found guilty of larceny, at our court of
common pleas at the last June term, and was sentenced to 40 days imprisonment,
and to pay a find of 15 dollars and costs; said Maxwell is about 17 to 18 years
of age, 5 feet 9 inches hight, light complexion, down look, had on home made
linnen shirt & pantaloons, his parents live in Nottingham township, Harrison
county; it is supposed he will go there. Also, William Kyle who was committed
for excessive abuse to his wife; he is about 30 years of age, a sandy
complexion, red hair, about 5 feet 8 inches hight, had on home made linnen shirt
and pantaloons, and an old blue cloth coat; his place of residence is in
Shortcreek township near Harrisville.
Whoever apprehends said prisoners and delivers them to me, at the jail in Cadiz,
shall have the above reward, or 5 dollars for either of them.

Respectfully informs the citizens of Cadiz and the surrounding country, that he
has opened a NEW STORE in the town of Cadiz, in the store house lately occupied
by Alexander Simpson and opposite the Court House, where he intends keeping
constantly on had a general assortment of MERCHANDISE. Comprising of dry goods,
groceries, queensware, Hardware, glass and dye stuffs. All of which he will
sell on the most reasonable terms for cash or approved country produce, such as
Ginseng Flax and Tow Linnen, Feathers, Beeswax, Twilled Bags, Whiskey and Rags
and also clean Wool and Flax Seed.

The following is the substance of an instrument of writing given to me, in the
presence of several respectable witnesses, by Aaron Thomas, some time ago. As
the original manuscript has been lost I cannot say it is an exact copy, but I
can prove by the witnesses who were present at the signing of it, that it is the
same in substance, except the omission of the words spoken, by said Thomas. As
my reputation is liable to be injured by the promulgation of the report, unless
some explanation is given, I wish thee to publish this, and oblige thy friend.

"To the public whom it many concern,
I, Aaron Thomas, of Harrison county and state of Ohio, having circulated a
slanderous report against John Dingee of the same county and state, *
* * * * * which I did not say with any intention that the
report should have been spread to the injury of said Dingee's character, - - I
always considered him to stand as high in a moral point of view, as any of my
acquaintance; and now, in justice to him, I am willing to say, that after
investigating the cause that gave rise to the report, that I am satisfied I was
altogether mistaken, and that there is no just grounds for the same.
I am induced to give publicity to the above in order that the report may go no
further to the injury of the person charged.

Twenty Dollar Reward
Taken out of the pasture of the subscriber, in Shortcreek township, Harrison
county Ohio, on the night the the11th instant, one bay horse, nearly 16 hands
high, 6 or 7 years old last spring, a natural trotter, rather rough gated, some
white on three of his feet, not recollected which, he is a gelding. But has a
large lump at the place from which his testicles were extracted.
The above reward will be given for the horse and thief, or ten dollars for
information of the horse sent to the Cadiz post office, so that the owner can
get him.

OBITUARY
Died, on Tuesday evening the 23rd ult, Mr. James Rankin, in the 76 year of his
age, and for 9 years inhabitant of this town.
In the death of Mr. Rankin we mourn the loss of a valuable citizen, a warm
friend, and an exemplary Christian. But why should we mourn
[this goes on to tell what a good Christian he was and etc. If anyone wanting
the obituary in it's entirety contact me and I will send you a copy. I am only
including genealogical data within the obituary]
During the past summer the infirmities of old age gradually impaired his
constitution, and on Tuesday evening, without sickness or even a struggle, he
exchanged this mortal for immortality
.
On Wednesday his remains were committed to dust, attended by a numerous
concourse of friends and acquaintance.

Respectfully requests all those who are indebted to him, by note or book
account, to come forward and settle the same previous to the first day of
December next. As he has it in contemplation to remove from this place in a
short time, he wishes to close his concerns, and it is hoped that all those

There will be a public meeting held at Georgetown in Shortcreek township, on
Saturday the 4th of October next, for the purpose of forming a society for the
detection of Horse thieves and other Rogues. A general attendance is requested.
NOTICE
Those persons who have relations buried in the common graveyard adjoining the
town of Cadiz, are requested to go and examine the situation of the graves, as
the pens which have been erected over them will shortly be removed, after which,
it is believed, few persons will be able to find where their friends have been
deposited.

FIRE
On Friday morning last between the hours of 12 and 1 o'clock, the new brick
dwelling house of Rev. John Walker New Athens, was entirely consumed by fire.
Happily no lives were lost, and the principal part of the best furniture was, by
great exertions, saved from the blames; but the most of the body clothes
belonging to the family, a desk containing papers, some books, and other smaller
articles were burnt. The carpenters had just completed the work on the 2nd
story on Thursday. The fire is supposed to have communicated from some small
shavings and saw dust which had been swept into the fire-place upstairs where
some fire had been kindled late in the evening. The precise amount of loss has
not been fully determined, it must, however, have been considerable.
On Tuesday the 14 inst. the dwelling house of Henry Maffit of this township was
entirely consumed by fire, together with the whole of it contents, the family
being absent at the time.
DISSOLUTION OF PARTNERSHIP
The partnership hitherto carried on between James and Thomas Lee is this day
dissolved, by mutual consent. All those who stand indebted to them, by book
account or otherwise, will please to call immediately and settle the same. With
James Lee, who is duly authorized to collect said accounts. Wheat, rye, corn,
tallow will be taken in part for old accounts, if delivered before the first of
January next.
