I found the original marriage certificate for my g-g-grandparents -
Benjamin Franklin Scull and Sarah F. Richardson - who were married in
Hamilton county in 1864.
The paper is in pretty rough shape, but thankfully the writing is still
legible. The third line for the witnesses was added by hand to
include the Richardsons, so I'm making a guess that they are the
bride's parents. After the Reverend's name is a letter "D" and an
illegible letter after that.
Here's what it reads:
Benjamin Franklin Scull was a doctor in the 6th Ohio Infantry Co. E
during the Civil War and the couple moved to Jacksonville in 1885 with
their twin 16-yr-old daughters, Ella Nora and Cordelia Flora.
Ella Nora married my g-grandfather John Lincoln Bartholf, and Cordelia
Flora married Robert L. Smith.
According to a Scull family website that I've found, several Sculls
(and others) moved to Ohio from Cape May, New Jersey with a minister
who sought to build a community of believers (or some such).
