            1750    Born to William and Mary Campbell Knox. Henry is the seventh in family of ten.

 

            1771    Opens the London Book Store on Cornhill in Boston , quickly becomes center for debate society

            1774    Secretly marries Lucy Flucker, a daughter of a royalist. Couple has 13 children over the years.

 

            1775    Noble train of artillery, a 300 mile winter haul of 55 cannon from Ft. Ticonderoga back to Boston

            1776    Battle of Trenton, moves army across the Delaware .  Promoted to Brigadier General at age 26.

            1777    Winters with Army at Valley Forge, Lucy joins the encampment

            1781    Siege of Yorktown sets the bombardment of the British lines

            1783    Deputed to receive the surrender of New York . Organizing Secretary of the Society of Cincinnati

 

            1785    Appointed by Congress then Washington as Secretary of War, holds position for 11 years

            1795    Retires to Montpelier a nineteen room home on 576,000 acres in Maine

           

            1806    Dies unexpectedly due to complications of peritonitis
