Alfred M. Lee
Alfred M. Lee, son of Benjamin and Mary Lee, was born February 18, 1848, in Henry County, Ohio. He departed from this life May 4, 1934 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lewis Rupp. His earthly pilgrimage continued for 86 years, 2 months, and 16 days.  He was one of a family of ten children: four brothers and six sisters, all of whom are deceased excepting one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Smith, of Waldron, Michigan. He was a diligent and prosperous farmer living within the distance of one mile from his birth place, during his entire life. On February 11, 1875 he was united in marriage with Jane Adeline Boyer of Williams County, Ohio. This union was blessed with three children: Truman H.; Myrtle, now Mrs. Lewis Rupp, and Stanley A., all residing on adjoining farms.  During the year of 1895, Rev. S. H. Yager conducted a meeting at the United Brethren Church on the Ridge. At this time Mr. Lee confessed Christ as his personal Savior and with his companion united with the church and continued faithful to the Lord until death. After the United Brethren Church was discontinued he attended the Pettisville Missionary Church as regularly as his health permitted.
On September the 28th, 1925 he was bereft of his beloved companion. A few days later his elder son also preceded him to his eternal reward. After this he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Lewis Rupp. He failed gradually during the past years which led to his final illness of four weeks.
He bore it all with great patience and frequently expressed his desire and hope of being with the Lord.

Among many relatives and friends, he is survived by his daughter Myrtle and son Stanley, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

“Servant of God, well done!

Jonas William Leininger
Jonas William Leininger, the son of Ed. Leininger .and his wife, Carrie Leatherman was born March 27, 1911 in Henry Co., Ohio. When very shortly after birth it seemed that the child would
not live, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism was administered by the grandfather, Wm. Leininger. Nevertheless; the boy grew up and remained with his parents during his entire life, moving with them to Darby Corners some 15 years ago.  More or less sickly all his life, the boy nevertheless worked- and labored with his father until last June when he was stricken with plural pneumonia. From that time on, with the exception of several weeks ago, he was forced to remain indoors, Bright's disease and dropsy having taken hold of his body. And it was these afflictions which
finally brought about his death which occurred Saturday evening,  Feb. 3, 1934, at 9 o'clock he having attained 'the age of 22 years, 10 months, and 6 days.  During his long illness he showed
a very patient spirit, bearing his cross with Christian courage and resignation.  Those who remain to mourn his seeming untimely departure are his d bereaved parents, 2 sisters: Pearl and Lodema; 1 brother: Albert; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. About 1886, when laws governing such matters were passed, he became a licensed mortician, which profession he practiced for years afterward.  Jacob Gype prospered by the old, time-tried methods of labor and thrift. He worked hard and saved rigidly, and his credit with wholesale houses was unquestioned. He paid as he went and could look all men in the face.

Nelles Paul Schang
The people of our vicinity were greatly pained last Friday when the grievous news arrived that Nelles had passed into another Land, and his cheerful presence would be with us no more except in  memory. Nelles was a very likeable boy; was loved by all who knew him. His smile was contagious and won him many friends who were delighted to hear his cheerful voice in song. His going in the bloom of youth has shocked and saddened the entire community. A .few days ago while at School he met with a very unusual accident from which he never recovered. He was taken to the Wauseon Hospital where all care possible could be given him. His suffering lasted a little over two weeks and yet each day he met all with a smile. For many days we waited, hoped and prayed while he battled with the grim messenger of death. Some days we were encouraged with the reports from his bedside, other days our hearts were made heavy and sad. Nelles Paul Schang, youngest son of Peter and Blanche Schang, was born July 31, 1921 on the home farm
and died at the ,Wauseon Hospital, February 9; 1934, at the age of 12 years, 6 months and 8
days. He leaves to mourn: his mother, father, one brother Hubert, and one sister Donna, and a
host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the West Franklin church, conducted by Rev. Ed. Schad of Wauseon, assisted by Rev. Nungester of
Fayette. Burial was held In the Fayette Cemetery.
I cannot say and I will not say
That he is dead-He is just away.
With a cheery smile and a wave of his hand,
He has wandered into another Land.
Our Appreciation
Having so recently passed through a period of anxiety and sorrow, we have been brought to realize the value of true friendship. Hand in hand with every anxious moment came the love of dear friends demonstrated in so many, many ways. It would be impossible for us to personally thank all who were so kind and thoughtful and those who assisted us materially, so we ask you to please accept this message as our most slncere appreciation. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schang jr. and Farmilv.

Sophia Magdalena Eva
(March 1934)
Sophia Magdalena Eva was born at Buffalo, N.Y., on the sixth day of January in the year of our
Lord 1859; being the eldest child of Frederick Wetzel and his wife Katharine. In infancy she was brought to the Lord by means of holy baptism. Having reached the proper age she was instructed and confirmed, here at Archbold, the Wetzel family having taken up its abode here, and affiliated itself with St. Martin's Congregation. December 8th, 1874, the deceased entered the holy estate
of Matrimony with George Eva, the family also being affiliated with St. Martin's Congregation. The
Lord blessed this union with nine children, all of whom survive. The husband and father has gone before a number of years ago. Afflictions of old age were creeping up on the deceased for the
past few years though her health had, as a rule, been fair. About sixteen weeks ago she was taken to the hospital with a broken hip. Her condition having improved sufficiently she was brought home, but continued to be bedfast. During the course of last week an ailment of the heart which had caused her some distress before came upon her with greater force making her condition quite serious. The end of her sojourn came Monday morning, March 5, at about 4:35. By the Grace of God in Christ Jesus we trust that her departure was blessed. The days allotted to the departed were 75 years, 1 month, 29 days. She leaves two brothers, George and Charles Wetzel; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Frey and Mrs. Louisa Kriezel; 4 sons, 5 daughters,7 grandchildren.

When ends life’s transient dream,
When death's cold sullen stream
shall o'er me roll,
Blessed Savior, then, in love:
Fear and distrust remove;
O bear me safe above,
a ransomed soul. Amen.

Card Of Thanks

Peter Schang
(1933) Peter Schang, 82, Dies Of Injuries After Auto Crash
Aged Farmer Dies In Hospital Following Collision At Burlington Of Two Automobiles
Peter Schang, .82, received injuries from which he died in an auto collision at the Burlington corner, Wednesday noon.  A Ford car driven by Henry Arps, of Okalona, was going north on 66, while a Willys- Knight car driven by Mrs. Irta Rumaner, widow, of Chicago, was going east on U. S. 20 when they came together at the Hinderer corner. The Ford rolled over and was badly damaged,
but the W.-Knight stood up and with a few slight repairs was able to proceed to New York. Henry Arps had his head and neck bruised. Mrs. Rumanier was uninjured. She had just buried her husband in Chicago, Monday, and was on her way to her folks in New York. When the neighbors had a righted the ford and looked after the cars, one saw a man laying bleeding by the roadside. They saw that he needed attention. One or more recognized the injured man as Peter Schang of Elmira. The old gentleman was badly crushed, with injured head, broken legs, broken ribs and crushed side. Mr. Schang was taken to Wauseon in the ambulance where he passed away on Saturday evening, with members of his family at his bedside.  The body was brought to the home
of his son Edward in Archbold. Funeral was set for Tuesday forenoon at 10:00 at the house and at the Reformed church at 10:30. Burial in Smith cemetery.  Just how Mr. Schang was injured is still a mystery. He was in the habit of coming to the Burlington corner for his mail and groceries, and it is supposed that he was struck by the ford car as it turned over. It seems strange that two cars should come together just at the time to strike a bystander. The deceased leaves seven living children, thirty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was known for miles around as he had run a threshing rig in the neighborhood of Elmira for years.

Anna Weckesser Rupp
(1929)
Anna Weckesser Rupp, daughter of Conrad and Elizabeth Weckesser, was born Feb 7,1858, at Hatzbach, Germany. From early childhood she was much concerned of her spiritual welfare, and though she was baptized as an infant and later confirmed it afforded her no comfort, as she was persuaded by scripture testimony that regeneration, as that would render the baptism was not the direct washing of blood of Christ of no effect and be a dishonor to God, whom she had learned to love. In 1880 she came to America in search of those with whom she could unite for mutual strength and comfort The Lord rewarded her efforts so that in the following year at Medway, O., she was baptized upon her own confession of faith. Which to her, was an outward sign of an inward change. On Dec. 17,1882, she was united in marriage with Moses Rupp. To this union were born eight children. One son Mosie, and one daughter Sarah, having preceded her to the spirit world. She was a loving dutiful wife and mother, always willing to sacrifice self for her loved ones. And especially was she concerned for their souls welfare, her supplications ever arising in their behalf. She departed this life April 2, at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 26 days.

There remain to mourn her *depatrure: her husband Moses Rupp of Elmira; three sons, Wm. J., and Samuel C., of Archbold; Menno S., of Tedrow; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Ruger of Tedrow, Mrs. Ida Graber of Archbold, and Mrs. Anna Sigg of Elmira; one brother Henry Weckesser of sterling, Ill.; one sister Mrs. Catherine Jacobs of Hatzbach, Germany; thirty-three grandchildren

Oliver Burkholder, 16, son of Mr. I and Mrs. A. M. Burkholder, of neal l Wauseon, died at the Wauseon hospital early Sunday morning from injuries received in an accident, Saturday evening,
at dusk.  Oliver was driving home a team of horses hitched to a hay rack from the farm of his uncle Sam Burkholder, *abuot two miles distant from the A. M. Burkholder farm. A. M. Burkholder and sons Harold and Oliver had assisted in filling silo, and as the work was not finished until dark,
were just returning home.  The father and Harold were driving home in the car and passed Oliver with the team soon after he reached the Toledo-Chicago Pike. About half way on the mile of concrete between the farms, an auto driven by Arthur and Ervin Gardhardt, two young men from Delta, came upon the Burkholder wagon and in attempting to go around the hay rack must have struck the corner of the rack as the team became frightened and ran away.  The horses started for the ditch and in doing so turned the rack over and pinned Oliver underneath. Motorists saw the accident and stopped to give aid to the young man. Oliver was pinned underneath the heavy rack
in the ditch, and his head was struck on the left side by a bolt in the rack, which fractured his skull.
He was immediately rushed to the Wauseon hospital, but medical aid was of no avail, and Oliver never regained consiousness. The run-away team broke the front wheels from the wagon and ran home, *ariving there just as the father and son reached the barn yard. They immediately returned
to the scene of the accident, only to find the son and brother seriously injured.  Oliver was well-known in Archbold and vicinity and is a grandson of Jacob Bernath of Elmira.

Edna Georgia Schultz was born in Fulton County, Ohio, on Feb. 26, 1903, the daughter and only child of Geo. J. Leininger and his wife Carrie. On I April 19, 1903, her parents brought her to Christ through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, which, as a washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost, made her a child of God and an heiress of His eternal heaven. On May 16, 1920, after having been duly instructed in God's Word and the doctrines of the Lutheran Church, she was received into membership of the Lutheran Church through the rite of confirmation. She was united in holy matrimony with *Russell Schultz, on Mach 27, 1927.

The departed was ever a dutiful child, loving and highly esteeming her parents, honoring them, serving them wherever possible, and obeying them with true Christian humility and simplicity.
She was a faithful and devoted wife, a worthy help-meet of her husband. She was a consecrated worker in the church, taking a lively interest in all congregational affairs, using her talent especially as organist of the Leininger Church during the last 4 or 5 years. She was a congenial friend, well thought of and highly esteemed by all with whom she came into contact.  It was therefore a great shock to all when her seeming untimely death came last Wednesday evening, Jan. 9, 1929, she having attained the age of 25 years, 8 months and 20 days. Our departed sister had been well until a few weeks ago, when the 'flu'  made its in road into their home. For a number of days her life was hanging in the balance. 'Flu' with other complications setting in,
caused her death. The last week the departed suffered intensely. Our sympathy goes out to the bereft husband, the motherless children, parents, sisters, brothers and other relatives. But we greatly rejoice that on Wednesday between four and five o'clock in the morning she made her peace with God and that Jesus Christ saved her soul. Praise God for such a merciful Savior!

Tread softly: bow the head-
In reverent silence bow!
No passing bell cloth toll;
Yet an immortal soul
Is passing now.
Oh! change-oh! Wondrous change!
Burst ate thy prison-bars!
This moment there, so low,
So agonized-and now
Beyond the Stars!
Oh! change-stupendous change!
There lies the soulless clod!
The sun eternal breaks:
The new immortal wakes
Wakes with her God.

We shall miss our darling daughter,
She has bid us all adieu,
She has gone to dwell in heaven,
And her form is lost to view;
Oh the dear one, how we loved her,
And how hard to give her up,
But an angel came down for her,
And removed her from our flock.
Dearest Elva now is resting,
In that happy land above,
By and by we're going to meet her,
In that land where all is love.

Card Of Thanks We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors who expressed their sympathy and who in any way assisted us during the long illness, and death, and lent a helping hand during this, our sad bereavement. N. S. Kauffman and Family.

do follow them.

One loved by us is taken,
By death from us away,
Who will again awaken
At the great judgment day,
Her warfare now is ended,
Her faith has overcome;

The victory has won.

Donald Tompkins,  Gordon Tompkins, Howard Tompkins,
SIX BURNED TO DEATH IN AUTO CRASH (April 4,1932)
Victims, on Way to Toledo, Run Into Rear of Parked Truck
Six victims of a tragic accident Saturday night on Central avenue, 17 miles west of Toledo, which wiped out one family and half of another, were to be buried together today In Raker cemetery near Delta, OH.  The six were killed when their small sedan crashed into the rear of a huge truck. The impact of the crash threw flaming gasoline from the tank at the front of the car over the occupants, burning all but one of them beyond recognition arid baffling the efforts or rescuers.  The dead are: Rienhart A. Lieska, 26, farmer living near Lyons, 0.; Jessie Lieska, 23, his wife.; Lois Ann Lieska, 3, their only child; Donald Tompkins, 17, Delta, brother of Mrs. Lieska.; Gordon Tompkins, 19, a brother.; Howard Tompkins, 21, a brother.

Drove for Ditch.
Rienhart Lieska was at the wheel of the car. The truck, laden with 100 hogs and other livestock, was parked with a flat tire on the road near the gas station of Justin Bartlett about two miles west of Caragher, OH.  Lieska apparently had attempted to pass the truck, but seeing his way blocked by an approaching car, had headed for the ditch. Instead he jammed the rear of the truck, virtually demolishing his own car and enveloping it and the rear of the truck in flames. Mr. Bartlett and the drivers of the truck, John Drabeck, 23; of Holland, 0., and Ray Niggemyer, Sylvania, leaped to extinguish the flames. Failing that, they managed to throw a rope around the body of one of the boys and drag him from the flames. Two other bodies were similarly recovered before the flames abated, The driver of the car, to avoid which Lieska had crashed into the truck, was Maynard Hartel, who lives a mile from the scene of the accident. He stopped at once and aided rescuers. Tho he had been a friend and neighbor of all the victims, he failed to recognize the bodies. Identification was finally established by George Lleska, Lyons, a brother of Reinhart.

Severely Burned.
The accident occurred about 8 p. m. Saturday as the six were enroute to a birthday party at the home of Llewlyn McCurdy, 820 Turner avenue. They were to have gone first to the home of a sister of the Tompkins boys and Mrs. Lleska, Mrs. George Chamberlain, 834 Turner avenue, and thence
to the party.  Donald had intended to entertain at the party with his harmonica and Howard with his guitar. The bodies were taken to the Newill-Planson mortuary at Delta. All except that of Donald were burned beyond recognition. Coroner Charles Bennett of Wood county returned a verdict of accidental death.

Truck Catches Fire.
The truck, which caught fire but which was saved from serious damage, belongs to John Domico, Silica stock man, known thruout the countryside as "Chicken John." Surviving the victims are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tompkins, Delta, parents of the three youths and Mrs. Lieska; Mrs. Floyd Murry, 1525 Roosevelt avenue, Toledo; Mrs. Chamberlain and Treva Tompkins, 10, sisters. Mr. Lieska is survived by two brothers, George, 21, who lived with him, and Ernest, 25, of 3516 Detroit avenue, Toledo, and his father, William, Toledo. Services for the six were to be at 2 p. m, today in Delta Church of Christ.

Why should I feel discouraged,
Why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely
and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion my
constant friend is He?
His eye is on the sparrow and I
know He watches me.

My testimony –
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
It saved a wretch like me.
I was once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved,
How precious did God’s grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come,
His grace has brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secure
His will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.
When I've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
I’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when I first begun.
Hallelujah what a Saviour,
Hallelujah what a Friend!

There's an open gate at the end of the road
Through which each must go alone,
And there is a light we cannot see
The Father claims His own;
Beyond the gate your loved one finds happiness and rest.
And there is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best.

“My Partner”
I've formed a partnership with God
I talk to Him each day
About each project that I start
In study, work or play.
When things go wrong and all my world
Looks desolate and grim,
I find that He will brighten things
If I Will talk to Him.
He gives me strength when I have none,
The courage-for the deeds
That I must do if I shall go
Along tbe way He leads.
He gives to-me so very much,
That through bright days or dim.
Through morning, noon and evening I
give Grateful thanks to Him.

"Earth has lost its look of gladness,
Heaven seems to us more bright,

With the Savior evermore.

May God comfort them in their bereavement and fill the void that has been left in their lives with the fullness of His Divine love.  Although Linda will be missed by many, we humbly submit to the sovereign will of our Heavenly Father, resting assured that she is happy in the arms of Jesus, who said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven."

I see the wrong that round me lies,
I feel the guilt within;
I hear, with groan and travail-cries,
The world confess its sin.
Yet, in the maddening maze of things,
And tossed by storm and flood,
To one fixed trust my spirit clings;
I know that God is good!
And' if my heart and flesh are weak
To bear an untried pain,
The bruised reed He will not break,
But strengthen and sustain.,
I know not where His islands lift
Their fronded palms in air;
I only know I cannot drift
Beyond His love and care.
