Index to Illustrations

This biography book appears to be one of the type of biography collection books that were popular across the country around the turn of the century. From the 1880's into the 20th century books such as these were sold on a subscription basis. Buy a copy of the book and you could put your biography in it. The information nearly always came from the individual portrayed although a few local figures might be included gratis, such as Moses Cleaveland in the collection included here.

There are 1105 names listed in the index to the 917 pages, most if not all directed to separate biographies. In addition, there are 78 illustrations [perhaps there was an extra charge for those?]. For now we are uploading the index to the biographies and one to the illustrations and will be uploading and linking images of the actual pages as we get them scanned. Eventually we plan to OCR and proofread the biography pages into text pages.

Lorraine "Sunny" Newsome, my co-coordinator, passed away recently. Shortly afterwards this site was attacked by a MALWARE. When it was discovered, the site was appropriately shut down by Rootsweb. Non-infected files have been uploaded but in the process some files were lost as they were ones Sunny had worked on and I did not have copies at all or have outdated copies. Please let me know about any missing or broken links.
