the Columbiana County Naturalization Records
This index list all the naturalization records
found in the Columbiana County Courthouse
Please note,
the actual record may only be a few
lines or multiple pages.
1. The indexes for
years 1811 to 1862 and 1862 to
1920 are separated into the following columns:
Column 1: RECORD # = Filing aid Note in (enclose File # with your copy request).
Column 2: SURNAME = Surname listed on record.
(enclose Surname with your copy
request)
Column 3: FIRST NAME = Given
listed on record name (enclose Given name
with your copy request).
Column 4: COUNTRY
of ORIGIN = The country given
(VARIOUS in this column. =
means there were several people named all together and when they were from a
different countries, it said "Various".
Column 5: Documents
Filed = This is the type of document filed.
DOCUMENT TYPES
INCLUDE:
( Intention: This is the 1st filing,
declaring the intention to be come a citizens. This may have been filed in
different court from where the actual naturalization record may be found. Some
naturalizations are filed years after the intention.)
(PETITION: This record generally had more information
on it than the Intention or the Naturalization record. It has wife's name,
birth date and children's names and their birth dates, etc. Not all persons
have Petition's.
( Naturalization: This is the
record of when the person became a citizen)
2. The indexes for
years 1820 to 1826 are separated into the following columns:
Column 1: File # = (enclose
File # with your copy request).
Column 2:
SURNAME = Surname listed on record. (enclose
Surname with your copy request)
Column 3:
FIRST NAME = Given listed on record name (enclose Given name with your copy request)
Column 4: COUNTRY of ORIGIN = The country given
(VARIOUS in this column. = means there were several people
named all together and when they were from a different countries, it said
"Various"
Column 5: Documents Filed = This is the type of
document filed.
Column 6: Date = Date of Document

If you would like a copy of a Naturalization Record
the "Columbiana County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society" will provide a
photo copy of the actual record. For a copy of a single file send $3.00 (to
cover, travel, copying, and handling cost. Include a self addressed #10
envelope, place 3 US postage stamps in the envelope depending on the amount of
information from your request the proper postage will be used, unused stamps
will be returned.). Include the GIVEN
NAME, SURNAME and FILE NUMBER found in the index and
send your request to the following address
Please include 7.5% Ohio State Tax.
