I live in Columbus and am trying to get some info on my ancestor, Moshein HOFFMAN (or HUFFMAN; spelling varies). He was born in 1840 (?) in Columbiana County, served in the Civil War (in a regiment out of Hancock Co) and died at age 38 in Hancock County. In the 1870 census, he is living in Hancock county with his wife, Sarah Wheland. I'm having trouble finding out who his parents were. Any ideas?

Martin V BATES was born in 1839 in Columbian, Ohio. There are many Bates on the 1850 census for Columbian, Ohio. Martin was my gr gr grandfather, a civil war soldier, who enlisted into Co E 100 Regt Ohio Inf Vols.in Toledo, Ohio. I have the pension records for Martin but nothing indicated who his father was. The 1850 Census indicates Samuel Bates had a son Martin age 11. They were reported in Dist 202 in Salem Twp. On the same census Samuel had 7 children 4 female. Are there any Bates researchers that can assist with the identification of these Bates. There dwelling and family # was 241/248
