Caleb WARD and Nancy Jane SHIVELY: My gg-grandparents, Caleb Ward and Nancy Jane Shively, were married in Gallia Co, OH on 2 December 1863. I just received copies of some Civil War Pension records for Caleb Ward and Nancy(Shively)Ward's Widow's pension. I still have not found the birthplace and parents of Caleb Ward. However, there is a statement from Nancy (Shively) Ward in the records where she says she had known Caleb Ward since 10 or 12 years of age. Does anyone know if Nancy Jane Shively, b. 4 March 1843, was born in and raised Washington Co. or Columbiana Co, OH? I do know she was from OH and her parents, Baltzer and Nancy, lived in Washington Co, OH, but some of the family was from Columbiana Co, OH. If so, perhaps Caleb Ward, b. 5 March 1843, was from the same county? My Mom's records say only that he was from PA. Maybe a PA county near the OH state line, or he was born in PA and the family moved to OH later? Do you have any advice for me, or ideas of which counties to check? Caleb Ward was a member of the Union Army M Company, 11th Cavalry PA Volunteers. The M Co, of 11th Cav. PA were actually mostly from Columbiana Co, OH, right on the border between PA and OH.

Searching for information on Samuel and Tobitha CORL/CARL Samuel was born about 1800 and died Sept 15 1883. Tobitha (nee: ORIN)was born about 1803 and died sometime before Samuel. Her father, Thomas Orin died in Columbiana, OH in 1813. Family rumor is that Samuel and Tobitha married quite young (possibly in Columbiana) in 1815. At some point, they moved to Lancaster Co, PA where they had at least three children born 1821-1826. Then they moved back to OH. Samuel may be the son of a Thomas and Mary (nee Thompson) Carl of Columbiana Co, OH. Looking for any information that may help.

I have more info. to add for my WARD and SHIVELY Query of 8 Dec.1999. I believe Caleb WARD had at least 2 brothers, Joseph WARD, born 8 July 1839 and Nelson W. WARD, born about 1837-1838. Possibly also Jacob WARD. These 3 men served with him in 11thPA Cavalry and moved to Springfield, Greene Co, MO., were there for the 1870 & 1880 Census. Nelson W. WARD was born in Columbiana Co, OH, but I am not sure in which township and I am not certain of their parents. Nelson was raised in Gallia Co, OH. I have an inkling their parents may have been JACOB WARD AND ANNIE SMITH, both born in PA.Here is text from my last query: Caleb WARD and Nancy Jane SHIVELY: My gg-grandparents, Caleb Ward and Nancy Jane Shively, were married in Gallia Co, OH on 2 December 1863. I understand that the Courthouse in Lisbon had burned down, years and years ago,\ destroying many records. I'd like to find out info about the WELLS family and the homes in which they lived, in Wellsville. I was raised in one of the old Wells homesteads, located at 725 Main Street in Wellsville. My family has had a \ hard time finding original information about the house, and the former Wells mansion that was located next door. Supposedly, the mansion was build on land that had formerly been a cemetery. It is also said to have been a station on the Underground Railroad. Anyone with info about Wells family homesteads in Wellsville, please email me.
