ITEMS FROM EARLY CLERMONT COURIER

by Barbara McCarthy

The Cincinnati Historical Society, 1301 Western Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45203 has what still exists of the 1852 CLERMONT COURIER. Ask for 071.771 fc56. The COURIER was published weekly but some issues are missing from the coliection. A few editions had no marriages or deaths reported, that I could see, - 25 Mar, 3 Jun, 24 Jun, 15 Jul. 26 Aug and 9 Sep.

I have ventured making an index containing marriages and deaths and a few notes of interest. Some deaths consisted of one sentence, but others were whole paragraphs, and could be classified as obituaries. All these deaths occurred before deaths were officially recorded in the County, hence the possibility of the only existing record. Once in a great while, a parent's name is mentioned along with the marriage information.
