Directions:
From Batavia area - Interstate 275N to St. Rt.
50. Take (Hillsboro) St. Rt. 50 exit. Turn left
onto St. Rt. 50. Continue
until you reach St. Rt. 131-St. Rt.
50 intersection. St. Rt. 50 changes to
Lila Avenue. At next intersection (Cemetery Road, turn
left)
You will pass the Greenlawn Cemetery on left. Cemetery Road
will curve to the right and change into Garfield Avenue. Stay
on Garfield.
At Gatch Avenue (stop sign) turn left. Gatch
Avenue will run into Cleveland Avenue. Turn left on
Cleveland. Get ready to turn right
into Sem Haven Retirement
parking lot. Drive as far back into the parking lot away from
patron parking. You will see the white
cemetery
stones. Good parking and safe terrain. You may want
to leave that parking lot and turn right back on to
Cleveland. Take
a few rights at various drives to see the
rest of the community where you will see the beautiful old Milford
Novitiate that is now Sem
Villa Retirement Community or just take a
walk on the paths.
Pictures and inscriptions taken by Pamela Smith, CCGS member and Vicky
Kellum, volunteer, in summer of
2007. I decided to photograph
this cemetery after being close by one day – realizing these
burials are someone’s
brother or son. If it helps
one member, than my deed was worthwhile. I enjoyed being
there as it was such a
sacred holy place to spend the afternoon with
all the men who dedicated their life to God. I am
not familiar
with Latin, but you can figure out the terms pretty
easily. If their name is listed as Josephus then their
given
name was probably Joseph, Fridericus = Frederick,
etc. Ingress = Entered.
