James Edgar (Edgar James) LEWIS m Mary Emma GOURLEY (1843-1931) on Nov 25, 1869 in Urbana, OH. J. Ford COUSEY, Minister of the Gospel, officated. James EDGAR was born in OH, Mary Emma was born in VA. In the 1880 Census for Urbana, he is listed as a carpenter. Their children are listed:Carrie (Clara B.) (1873-1921); Fannie (Florence or Frances M.) (abt 1876/abt 1930); Jennie (Genevieve) (1875/1910), my grandmother); James C. (abt. 1877/1916?); Frank B. (1874/1964 (not in census). Problem; I am sure that Frank B. was the son of James Edgar and Mary Emma, but he does not appear in the 1880 Census. According to family verbal history there were only four children. In 1890 James Edgar(Edgar James) m Ida E. JOHNSON (b. Logansport IN) in Chicago IL. They are buried in Elm Lawn Cem., Elmhurst IL. I have not found the divorce record of James Edgar(Edgar James) LEWIS and Mary Emma GOURLEY. The only record I have of James C. is in the 1880 census. The family address shown in the census is "Boyce St." or "Main St." The next record I have of the family is from the 1900 Chicago Census listing Mary Emma as head of household, with four children. following questions: - How do I find the birth records of the childen, which were Urbana events? The county offices could not help me. - Why did the family move on to Chicago? I am not familiar with the Urbana area. I need the advice of someone who is, to get an idea of how to proceed. I have made inquires in several places such as the county offices, but have only come up with the marriage information for James Edgar(Edgar James) and Mary Emma. James Edgar(Edgar James) LEWIS is descended from Briton LEWIS and Sara(Sally) WARD, dau of Col. Wm. WARD. Cyrus LEWIS and Ann GIVENS are the parents of James Edgar(Edgar James).
