8 September 2007 Beulah E. Calland, 97, of Wapakoneta, died 5:00 a.m. Fri.,
Sept. 7, 2007, at Wapakoneta Manor. She was born March 22, 1910, in Champaign
County, OH, the daughter of William Theodore & Jessie Mabel (Clark) Chambers,
who preceded her in death. On Dec. 31, 1932, she married George Raymond Calland,
and he survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Arlene (William Reed)
Searcy, Wapakoneta, two grandsons, Lee (Esther) Searcy, Elida, OH, Keith
(Elizabeth Searcy, Toledo, OH, three great-grandsons, Reed, Kian & Quinn Searcy,
Elida, OH. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Chambers and a
sister, Bernice Kauffman. A homemaker, Mrs. Calland was a member of the First United
Methodist Church, Wapakoneta. Her other memberships included the Monday
Afternoon Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, 131, both of West Liberty, OH,
and the Wapakoneta Woman's Club. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Mon. Sept 10, 2007, at the Bayliff & Eley
Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, Pastor R. J. Davis officiating. Burial is
to follow in the Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty, OH. The family will receive
friends from 12 noon until the time of the service, Mon., at the funeral home.

CALLISON -- SPRINGFIELD NEWS, Friday, 22 May 1959
James G. CALLISON age 43, a resident of Terre Haute about 24 years died at
7 AM Friday at Mercy Hospital, Springfield. Mr CALLISON was born 3-3-1916,
son of Andrew and Alice Hubbard CALLISON . He was a member of the Terre Haute
Methodist Church and a former employee of International Harvester Company
in Springfield. He had been employed by Dingledine Trucking of Terre Haute
for 10 years.
Survivors include his widow Esther and three daughters: Mrs. Sandra MASSIE
of St. Paris, Miss Sue Ellen CALLISON and Miss Elizabeth Ann CALLISON both
at home. He is also survived by four sons: Jerry L, Steven D. and Rodney
D all at home and James D. of Urbana. Other survivors are his mother, Mrs
Alice (CALLISON ) HARDMAN of Springfield, two sisters, Mrs. Mable CLINGAN
of Tipp City and Mrs. Gladys LEONARD of Sharon, Pa and two brothers Clarence
E. of Springfield and William E. of Springfield RT 2 and three
grandchildren.
His body will be taken to Don A. Neff funeral home in Urbana where friends
my call until noon Monday when the body will be taken to Terre Haute Methodist
church to lie in state till time for the service at 2 PM Monday. Services
to be conducted by Rev. Roland PERKINS, pastor of the church and Burial in
Terre Haute Cemetery.
CAMPBELL -- ST. PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, Thurs. January 9,
1930
Following an illness of several months' duration, James CAMPBELL died Wednesday
morning at 2 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jacob GUMPERT, south
of Fletcher. He had been in failing health from complications for a long
time and had recently been cared for at the home of his son, David, of Sidney
and at his daugher's home. His wife has also been with them.
Mr. CAMPBELL was the son of David and Catherine CAMPBELL and was born April
4, 1848. His marriage to Nancy Ann MAGGERT took place in St. Paris, November
27, 1877. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago
last November. They went to housekeeping on the farm on which Mr. CAMPBELLwas
born, three miles north of St. Paris and where he resided until retiring
in 1919 when he and Mrs. CAMPBELL moved to North High street, St. Paris.
The widow and three children survive. They are Mrs. Jacob GUMPERT of Fletcher;
Mrs. Carl MITCHELL of St. Paris and David CAMPBELL of Sidney, Ohio. Four
grandchildren are living together with two sisters, Miss Susan CAMPBELL of
Fletcher and Mrs. Matilda JENKINS of Millerstown.
For many years Mr. CAMPBELLhad been a faithful member of the Reformed church
at this place and was a man in whom every one had explicit confidence.
A brief service will be held at the GUMPERT home, Friday afternnon and at
2:30 o'clock services will be held in the Reformed church here. Interrment
will be in charge of Bert Richeson, funeral director, and will be made in
Spring Grove cemetery.

DAVID CAREY DIES AT THE NATIONAL SOLDIERS' HOME
Victim of Facial Cancer For Years -- Funeral Monday Afternoon
Word was received in Urbana Friday, by relatives, announcing the death of David C. Carey, at 1:30 o'clock that morning, at the National Soldiers home in Dayton, Ohio, where he had been a patient in the hospital for the past year and a half.
For many years Mr. Carey had been afflicted with facial cancer which was the direct cause of his death, and he was a patient sufferer until death came as a merciful relief. He was in his 83rd year at the time of his death, having been born in Defiance County, Ohio, in the year 1838. At an early age he removed with his parents to Piqua, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. Here he learned the trade of a tanner. It was while living here also that he met and married Sarah J. Perry who for more than half a century was a faithful helpmate, her death occuring seven years ago.
More than fifty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Carey came to Champaign county, where the deceased has since resided.
He responded to the call of his country during the days of the Civil war, being a member of Co. E., 147th Regiment, Ohio National Guards, and serving under Captain F. C. Johnston. He received an honorable discharge from the service at Camp Dennison, August 31, 1864. Mr. Carey was also well and favorably known in this section of the county, having been connected in an official way with the city and county in his younger days.
Six children survive and are, Mrs. A. L. Walker, W. N. Carey and S. W. Carey of Urbana, Mrs. F. O. Powell of Salem township, Rev. Charles J. Carey of Zanesfield, Ohio, and Rev. George E. Carey, pastor of the Westvine [?] and Concord M. E. churches. He was a member of Grace M. E. church, this city.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of Mrs. Walker on South Main street, this city, and Rev. J. P. Simmonds, pastor of the Grace M. E. church, will officiate. The members of the G. A. R. will also have a part in the services and burial will take place in Oak Dale cemetery.
R. C. Gardner, Undertaker, has charge of all funeral arrangements.

Carlson, Clifford O. – Urbana Daily Citizen, Wednesday, 21
November 2007 Clifford O. Carlson, age 82, of Dayton and formerly of Saint Paris passed
away at 3:30 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2007 in the Dayton VA Medical Center.
He was born on March 18, 1925 in Canby, Minnesota the son of the late O. William
and Annie (Halverson) Carlson. Mr. Carlson served in the U. S. Navy during WWII
from 1943 until 1946. He was a gunner’s mate and participated in the landing at
Red Beach in the Gulf of Leyte. Upon his return to the United States he married
Shirley Smith on October 21, 1949 and she preceded him in death in 1995. He is
survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law: Scott (Vanessa) Carlson of St.
Paris, and Roy Carlson; five grandchildren: Kimberly (Ben) Pence, Jessica
Carlson, James Carlson, all of St. Paris, Holly Carlson of Dayton, Michael
Carlson of Bowling Green, and their mother Carolyn of Dayton, Ohio; five great
grandchildren: Zachary, Vanessa, Donovan, and Victoria Pence, and Micah Carlson,
all of St. Paris. Mr. Carlson is also survived by three adopted children: Les
Gloege of Columbus, Alvin Gloege and Sue Gloege both of Minnesota, their sisters
Arlene (Richard) Lesley of Marysville and Mary Gloege of Michigan. He is also
survived by a sister, Fran Bierne of Renton, WA. In addition to his parents and
wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Vi Manke. He was employed as a
telegrapher on the railroad and retired in 1985. Mr. Carlson also trained bird
dogs and won six national bird dog championships. Mr. Carlson was a member of
the St. Paris United Methodist Church, the Keith Cretors American Legion Post
148, the Philip Grieser Memorial VFW Post 7645 and the DAV. Memorial funeral
services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. in the
Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., Saint Paris, Ohio with
Reverend Doug Upton of the St. Paris United Methodist Church presiding. Burial
will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery with military honors. Visitation for family
and friends will be held Saturday, 2 hours prior to the memorial service in the
funeral home, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

1963 Clark, Esther Zerkle - Urbana Daily Citizen, Saturday, 10
March 2007 Esther Clark, 84, of West Liberty, Ohio, died Thursday, March
8, 2007, at Spring Meadows Care Center in Woodstock. She was born April 28, 1922, in Champaign County to the late
Sylvester Eldon Zerkle and the late Marjorie Daphyne Linville Zerkle. She was married to Harry Roger "Buck" Clark on Jan. 119,
1941, in West Liberty at the United Church of Christ. He died July 30, 1964. She was a dental assistant for Dr. Robert Dodge and Dr.
Frerick Krock in Bellefontaine; retired clerk for Liberty Twp.; and former West
Liberty School cook. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in West
Liberty, 1940 West Liberty High School graduate, avid golfer, bowler and was a
past member of the West Liberty Horseshoe Club. She is survived by son John R. (Linda) Clark of West Liberty;
daughter Barbara "Jane" (Richard) McDaniel of West Liberty; sister Jean Ann
Nawrocki of Delta; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Willard L. "Zeke"
Zerkle, and sister, Maxine Brown Houghton. Visitation is Sunday, March 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Kauffman-Eichholtz
Funeral Home in West Liberty, where an 11 a.m. Monday service will be held with
Patrick Nawrocki. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty. Memorial contributions may be given to West Liberty EMS. Condolences may be

Urbana--Albert L. CLAPP, 68, of Urbana, Route 3, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday
in the Champaign Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the last three
years.
Mr. CLAPP, who, prior to his retirement, had been employed by different farmers
in the Urbana area, was born July 28, 1892, son of Gehile and Mandilla SNAIL
CLAPP, in Randolph County, Ind. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. O. S.
(Ruth) STEED of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sons, Carl CLAPP of Battle Creek,
Mich., and Glenn CLAPP, also of Grand Rapids; five granddaughters, and a
sister, Mrs. Ethel JESSUP of Urbana. Three brothers and a sister preceded
him in death.
His body was taken to the Neff-Walter funeral home in Urbana. Funeral
arrangements are pending.
Clayton, Carl W. - The Sidney Daily News, Saturday, 20 January 2007
Carl W. Clayton, 83, of 1915 Shawnee Drive, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at 4:05 a.m. at The Pavilion in Sidney.
He was born June 5, 1923, in Maplewood, the son of the late Homer and Nellie (Clark) Clayton.
He was first married to Louise Gillman on July 9, 1945, and she passed away Nov. 16, 1995. He then married Elsie (Lemmon) Bartel on May 9, 1999, and she survives him.
He is survived by two children, Dennis E. and his wife, Candace, of Sidney, and Dianne L. Clayton O'Brien of Dublin; two stepchildren, Steve and wife Judy Bartel of Sidney and Lois and husband Don Layman of Sidney; grandchildren, Christopher and Adam Clayton and Erin and Kelly O'Brien; two step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
Carl was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the military police. He was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post, past president of the Shelby County Antique Tractor Association, the Shelby and Allen County square dance clubs and the Unity Grange in Pemberton.
He was a member of the Pasco United Methodist Church and a former member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Sidney.
Mr. Clayton was a longtime farmer, a certified plumber and electrician and worked for many years for the Federal Crop Insurance Corp. as a field agent.
Carl was a firm supporter of his children and grandchildren in all their activities, specifically their sports and band performances. He and Louise loved western-style square dancing and were members of both Shelby and Allen County square dance clubs.
He found great pleasure working in his workshop/barn on his antique tractors. His love of the farm, woods and outdoors made him a great Boy Scout leader and 4-H supporter for both his children.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Cromes Funeral Home in Sidney, with the Rev. Gary Petry officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco.
Memorials may be made to Wilson Hospice Care, Pasco United Methodist church of the Alzheimer's Association in Carl's memory.

Clem, Patricia M. Saylor - Urbana Daily Citizen, Saturday, 17 March 2007
Patricia M. Clem, 76, of West Liberty, Ohio, died Friday, March 16, 2007, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
She was born March 17, 1930, in South Charleston to the late Russell Saylor and the late Flora Mae Peters Saylor.
She was married to Melvin Clem on Sept. 10, 1950, in South Charleston. He died June 8, 1993.
She worked for West Liberty-Salem Schools as a cook from 1966 to 1978, Marie's Candies, Hall Company in Urbana, Green Hills Center in West Liberty, Dajolees and Tastee Freeze. She was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church and a 1948 South Charleston High School graduate.
She is survived by sons Mike (Anita) Clem of West Liberty, Joe (Deb) Clem of Ft. Myers, Fla., Ken (Lisa) Clem of Urbana; daughters Anna Marie Clem of West Liberty, Sara Gamble of Marysville, Dona Faber of Leesburg, Fla.; brothers Bob Saylor of Wildwood, Fla., Jim Saylor of Springfield; sisters Frances (Art) Thompson of South Charleston, Marjorie (Paul) Joseph of Marysville, Florence (Doc) Banion of Abilene, Kan.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brother Joe Saylor and sister Dorothy Owen.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 20 in the West Liberty United Methodist Church, where an 11 a.m. service will be held Wednesday with Rev. Tim Reeves.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

CODDINGTON -- ST. PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, Thurs. 6 May 1909
Elsa M. CODDINGTON , daughter of Alva L. and Lillian A. CODDINGTON , died
in the afternoon of May 4th, at the home north of Conover. Her age was about
seven and one-half years. The funeral was held today at the home at one o'clock.
Interment at Fletcher cemetery.

Death of Joseph Comer - We copy the following from the Anthony Bulletin.
Joseph Comer was born in Champaign County, Ohio, May 11, 1826, and died in
Anthony, Kansas, August 23, 1905. Funeral and burial at 3 p.m. August 24
under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Comer was married at the age
of 19 and his first wife died leaving the two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Moore
of Attica and Mrs. Mary Ellen Short, of Ingersoll, Oklahoma. Later on April
16, 1868 he married Ada Jones, who was for a number of years an invalid,
and was cared for by her husband as devotedly as could be but in 1895 Mr.
Comer was attacked by paralysis and it turned upon the wife to be the nurse,
a task which she had carried out as devotedly and faithfully as ever fell
to the lot of woman.
Mr. Comer has been a Christian for fifty-eight years, a member of the Baptist church till about five years ago he and his wife joined the Christian church. He has been a Mason fifty-eight years; was the oldest Mason in Harper county; and probably the oldest in the state. He has been a stock merchant, liveryman and farmer. Came to Harper county at the age of 59 years, and lived in Attica till about 1895 when he moved to Anthony. He has had three hard strokes of paralysis and other slight ones. He leaves a widow and two daughters, Mrs. Short and her two sons, Charlie and Comer, were with him at the time of his death. While Mr. Comer was not able to mingle a great deal in the society of his friends because of his afflictions, yet he will be missed, and will be remembered as a good man, loved and respected by all good people who knew him.

October 2007 F. Rosemary Kaeck Compton, 84, of Quincy died at 6:12 a.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at OSU Medical Center, Columbus. She was born Wednesday, Feb. 21, 1923, in Piqua, Ohio, a
daughter of the late Lon and Hazel Derr Purk. She married Norman Kaeck on March 10, 1962, and he died in
1988. Then on Aug. 1, 1998, she married Curtis G. Compton in Bellefontaine and
he survives. Other relatives include sons and daughters-in-law Marvin
(Anna) Heminger of Bellefontaine and Randy (Mona) Kean of Quincy, daughters and
sons-in-law Elaine (Boy) Salyers of DeGraff and Wilma (Robert) Clark of Kenton,
brothers John Purk of Sidney and Donald Purk, deceased, brother and
sister-in-law Dale (Nancy) Purk of St. Paris, sisters June Pritchard, deceased,
15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, one great-grandson, Lane Smith,
deceased, several nieces and nephews. She retired as a machine operator from Midstates Container
Corp. in DeGraff. She was a former Quincy mayor and a Quincy council member. She
enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also liked to
sew and do crafts. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, from
to 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, and
prior to the service at Bellefontaine Church of Christ in Christian Union.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at the Church of
Christ in Christian Union, Bellefontaine. Burial is in the Greenwood-Union
Cemetery, DeGraff. The family suggested memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer
Society. Condolences may be expressed at
William Jackson COMER, 73, passed away at his home in Fletcher at 8 o'clock
Saturday evening after being bedfast since last April when he suffered a
paralytic stroke.
Mr. COMER a native of Champaign County had farmed most of his life and for
many years reside near Lena. He was a member of the Lena Baptist Church and
of the Men's Class of the Fletcher Federated Church.
Surviving are his widow Elinore; three daughters, Mrs. Worley EVILSIZOR,
Piqua rural route; Mrs. Harold ROUSE, Urbana route 3; and Mrs. Luther EVILSIZOR,
Urbana route 1; two sons, Robert DeGRAFF route 1, and Russell of Brown Township,
Miami County. He also leaves a sister, a brother, 15 grandchildren and five
great grandchildren.
Final services were conducted Tuesday at 2 o'clock at the Suber funeral home
in Fletcher with Rev. Harry Manning of Lena and Rev. Edward Fischer of Fletcher
officiating. Burial was in Spring Grove cemetery.
Connolly, Tondra Jane Rose - Urbana Daily Citizen, Saturday, 03 February 2007
Tondra Jane Connolly, age 47, of Conover, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, Feb. 2, 2007 in her residence.
She was born on Aug. 28, 1959 in Piqua, Ohio, the daughter of Lloyd and Janet (Kauffman) Rose.
Her father, Lloyd Rose, and a daughter, Danielle Connolly, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Janet and Eugene Elsner of Fletcher; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Tom and Jacqui Rose of Troy; Ted and Lee Rose of Xenia; Tim Rose of Conover; Tony Rose of Sidney; and Terry and Jackie Rose of Fletcher. She is also survived by two stepbrothers and their spouses, Jeff and Jackie Elsner of St. Paris; and Mike and Cheryl Elsner of Piqua; several nieces and nephews. Tondra was a 1977 graduate of Graham High School.
She was a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church were she participated in many activities including Vacation Bible School and the bell choir. She also was a teacher's assistant at the Fletcher United Methodist Church Preschool. Tondra enjoyed crafts and was always busy working on a project.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fletcher United Methodist Church, 205 S. Walnut St., Fletcher with Rev. Russ Tichenor presiding. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, North state Route 235 Conover. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fletcher United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 278, Fletcher, Ohio 45326. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.

COOK -- ST. PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, Thurs March 26, 1942 Cook, Marilyn K. Martin – Urbana Daily Citizen, Tuesday, 9
October 2007 Marilyn K. Cook, 66, of DeGraff, Ohio, died Sunday, Oct. 7,
2007 at her residence. She was born Nov. 21, 1940 in Champaign County to the late
Albert S. and Mary H. Crabtree Martin. She was married to Donald M> Cook on Sept. 23, 1963 in
DeGraff. He died Sept. 8, 1993. She is survived by Kimberly K. Johnson of DeGraff. A homemaker, she was a 1938 Urbana High School graduate, a
devoted mother who loved spending time with her daughter. Marilyn enjoyed her
pets and raised exotic birds for others to care for and enjoy. Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine handled the
arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hi-Point Regional Cancer Center, 2160

Double funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) at 2:00 o'clock
from the Terre Haute Methodist church for Mrs. Angie RICE, 64, and her father,
George COOK, 89, who died Tuesday at the Champaign County hospital just two
hours apart.
Mrs. RICE died at 4:15 P. M. after a week's illness from pneumonia. She had
been taken to the hospital at noon Tuesday.
Mr. COOK, a retired farmer, who would have been 90 years old on June 24th
passed away a little after 6:00 P. M. following an illness of several days
with pneumonia. He made his home with his daughter, Mrs. RICE, in the Cook
homestead north of Tremont on the County Line road.
Mrs. RICE was a member of the Bowlusville U. B. church, the Tremont Grange
and the Terre Haute chapter of the Daughters of America. Survivors
include her husband, George; three sons, Orval, Urbana route 4, Lester C.,
New Carlisle and Lowell at home; two sisters, Mrs. Florence DAVIS, South
Vienna route 1 and Mrs. Ava BRANNAMAN.
Mr. COOK is survived by a brother, Samuel, Spencerville, Ohio, and a sister,
Mrs. Mary RHODES, Urbana route 4.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. CARTER assisted by Rev. SINKS. Interment
was in charge of Ira Frank funeral director. Mrs. RICE was buried in the
Terre Haute cemetery and Mr. COOK in Ferncliff cemetery at
Springfield.

Edith K. Cottrill, 83, of Urbana, died at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2007, in March Memorial Hospital, Urbana.
She was born Feb. 15, 1924 in Champaign County, OH, a daughter of Ralph and Goldie (Wells) Ropp.
She had worked as a LPN at Mercy Memorial Hospital for many years and was a member of the Disabled Americans Veteran Auxiliary where she was the Past State Commander (1972-1973), Pearce Kerns American Legion Post #120 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars #5451. She was a member of the executive committee women for the DAV for the state of Ohio.
Edith is survived by her husband of 67 years Earl whom she married June 10, 1940; daughters Peggy Marie Helterbran and her husband Ronald, of Bellefontaine Kathy Jo Goodwin and her husband Terry of Urbana; sons Earl Marvin Cottrill, Jr. and his wife Alice of Urbana, Ronald Eugene Cottrill of Urbana; sister, Julia Massie of Mechanicsburg; brother Ralph Ropp Jr. of DeGraff; nine grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Ann Cottrill; a son, William Woodrow Cottrill; sisters Inez Mason, Nellie Tussing, Martha Jacks, Betty Mirrell, Glenna Kendall; and a brother Joseph Emanuel Ropp.
The family will receive friends 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2007 in the Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Urbana where the funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 with Rev. Clifford Kissinger and Rev. Mike Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana. Contributions may be made in Edith’s memory to the Clark Champaign Diabetes Association, P. O. Darius T. CRABTREE, 76, died at his home here at 10:00 p.m. Sunday after
an illness of about six weeks.
He was a native of Pike county and was a retired farmer, having made his
home in St. Paris for the past twenty-four years.
His wife, Elizabeth, preceded him in death three years ago. CRABTREE was
a member of the Christian union church in Bethel.
Survivors include: four sons, Vallie J. and William E., both of St. Paris,
and Herbert E. and Ray W., both of Sidney; three brothers, Samuel of urbana,
Noah of Ladd, OH, and Daniel of Springfield, and a sister Sene LOCKE of
Piketon.
The body was removed to the Frank Funeral Home where it remained until Wednesday
when services were held at 2:00 P.M. Interment was made in Pasco cemetery
near Sidney.
CROWLEY Urbana - Funeral services for Mrs. Nora CROWLEY of
Urbana, found dead in a cistern at her home at 128 Washington av. Monday,
will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will
be made in Oak Dale Cemetery. Coroner Richard M. BRAND returned a verdict
of suicide by drowning after an investigation. Mrs. CROWLEY had been in ill
health for some time. She was believed to have drowned herself sometime Sunday
night.
Culp, Alvin F. – Urbana Daily Citizen, Tuesday, 25 September
2007 A Service of Remembrance for M. Alvin F. Culp, age 90, of
Homosassa, Florida will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2007, at the
Homosassa Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes. Friends may call 1:00 pm until the time of service, Saturday
at the Homosassa Chapel. Cremation will be under the direction of Hooper
Crematory, Inverness. Born June 23, 1917 in Columbus, OH, he was the son of the
late John Roy and Lydia (Grosse) Culp. He went to be with our Lord on Friday,
September 14, 2007 at the Hospice House of Citrus County, Lecanto, Florida. He was employed by The Kroger Company for 20 years and was
transferred to Urbana, Ohio in 1951 where he raised his family. Years later Al owned and operated Loverdes’ Market in
downtown Urbana and following that retired from Dunhams Custom Butchering in
Mutual, Ohio. Al served his country as Sergeant in the U. S. Army during
World War II, stationed in the Philippines. He was active in the Urbana Rotary Club, Harmony Lodge 8; 32
degree Mason and received his 50 year pin; Order of Eastern Star 530 and the
Shriners. Al loved to make delicious sausage and bratwurst. Cooking,
fishing and woodcarving were all hobbies. After moving to Florida in 1983 he
developed a talent for painting with oils and was understandably proud of his
portraits, landscapes and friends with their pets. He was a member of the Concord Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Erma, who passed away in
February of 1998; his brother Howard Culp and his sister Julia Branscom. He will be sadly missed by his 2 daughters, Sharyn Hunter and Peggi Adrahtas,
and 2 sons, Dan Evan Culp and John Roy (Jack) Culp, all of Homosassa, FL;
Granddaughter, Holly Hunter Jones and Great-Granddaughter Courtney Jones of
Homosassa, FL; Grandson, Casey Ryan King and wife, Tracy, of Toledo, OH; Brother
Harry Edward of Columbus, OH; nieces, nephews and many friends, both in Ohio and
Florida.

ELISABETH DILFILL CUMMINS, 72, of 439 East Court Street, Urbana, died
Tuesday, July 26, 1988 in Kettering Medical Center, Kettering. She was born
January 8, 1916 in Napoleon, Ohio, the daughter of Clarence W. and Carrie
(GRIMES) DILFILL. She was a homemaker and member of the Urbana Presbyterian
Church where she sang in the choir for 25 years. She is survived by her husband,
Robert R. CUMMINS; two sons, Mike of Defiance and Jim of Daytona Beach, Florida;
three grandchildren, Kelly, Stacey and Jody; two sisters, Mrs. T.J. (Roberta)
BRADY of El Paso, Texas and Mrs. E.P. (Margaret) ROBINSON of Long Beach,
California; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m.
Friday, July 29, 1988 in the Urbana Presbyterian Church with Rev. Don
Hilkerbaumer will officiate. There will be no visitation. The family asks
that contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
