My husband's great great grandfather was Absolum DENNIS, Sr. born 1791 in Loudoun County, VA. He married Mary Ann WILSON in Loudoun County, VA. Mary Ann's parents were (I believe) James WILSON and Ann BURSON Wilson. It appears that the Burson and Wilson families moved to Belmont County, OH in the period of 1820 to 1830. Absolum Dennis's application for a pension from his service in the War of 1812 says that he had lived in Belmont County, OH. Monroe County, OH records indicate that he and his family moved there in 1832. He is found in the 1840 census of Monroe County. I believe that Absolum & Mary Ann and their family of 10 or 12 children moved to Belmont County sometime between 1820 to 1830 perhaps in the company of some of the Wilson or Burson families. I am trying to locate Absolum & Mary Ann's whereabouts for the period of 1820 to 1832 when they moved to Monroe County, OH. Also, perhaps someone in the Wilson or Burson families might just possibly have old records which would indicate the names of the mother & father of Absolum DENNIS, Sr. which thus far have been totally elusive. Absolum & Mary Ann's son, Alexander DENNIS married Maria BURSON and lived in Belmont County ..... perhaps someone knows some history on this family. Absolum & Mary Ann had three children which cannot be located in any records to date, those being the eldest children Tamar N. DENNIS, Olive DENNIS and Jesse B. DENNIS .....anyone know anything about them? Any small clue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Will share any info that I do have.

My gggrandfather, Joshua Lloyd (no birth date, probably died in 1907)and his brother (we think) Jesse Lloyd, are listed in the 1860 Belmont county census. They married sisters, Abigail and Edith Dillingham. It is probable that sometime between 1860 and 1875 Joshua moved to East Tennessee. Although we speculate that Jesse at some point moved to West Virginia, we don't really know for sure, except that one of his daughters, Josephine, was married to Joseph Bates Steere in Pleasants County, WV in 1893. Basically, we have no idea where Jesse went, although we do know he had 4 surviving children, Albert Harrison, Edward Williams, Henry Baldwin, and Josephine, after the civil war. I'd like to find Joshua and Jesse's parents, and where they came from. I'd also like to find out more information about Jesse, as I am pretty sure his descendants are due a civil war West Virginia medal, and I'd like to see these distant cousins receive it.

The PICKENS family was one of the four familys that settled Scotch Ridge before 1800. This was at the heart of Belmont county by what was known as Deep run and Little Short Creek. William PICKENS ran the first mill on both. William was born in Scotland on Sept 15, 1762 and died at Scotch Ridge Apr 24, 1841. There is a cemetary by the presbyterian church there where he and his family are buried. William had a father and two brothers with him and I am looking for any information about any of them. A list of that Cemetary's interment records would be great if one exists. Thanks. I am at [email protected].

My ggrandfather Alexander Patton GILL was born in Belmont Co. OH in 1841. He married Victoria SPELMAN of Franklin Co. OH. They moved with their children to Warren Co. IA before the 1870 census. He married my ggrandmother Cora Ella WOOD who was the daughter of S. S. WOOD. I have found a Samual S. WOOD in the 1830 Belmont Co. OH census records. He does not appear in the 1840 or 1850 census records. There is also an Alexander PATTON of St. Clairsville, Belmont Co. OH in the 1850 census records. Searching for more information on Samual S. WOOD and Alexander PATTON.
