Info re: David Meredith in Iowa mentions his mother being Margaret BELL, but can only find a record of Margret NEELY being married to Benjamin on 9 May 1816 in Belmont Co. Benjamin died in about 1826. Unknown where mother went, with minor children. 1820 Census listed several people in the home which seems to suggest a prior marriage of Benjamin, but am unsure (aren't those early census records great!? :-) Any help would be appreciated. VANCE, KIRK, HAMILTON - William VANCE, b. 12 Sep 1767, d. 14 Aug 1845, Fayette Co., OH, was a state senator representing Belmont Co. in several sessions of the Ohio legislature in Chillicothe including the session when Ohio became a state. While there he married Mary (SCOTT) KIRK 22 Mar 1804. They lived in Belmont for several years, later moved to Ross Co. where he served in the legislature from that county. Finally he moved to Fayette Co., in the 1820's. He supposedly had 10 children by this marriage. Can anyone identify them? (two of them are Catherine Nancy VANCE, b. 26 Feb 1806 & Batteal Harrison VANCE b. 9 Sep 1812. Also, this may be a second marriage for William. Was he previously married to a HAMILTON, and if so, were there children, and how did that marriage end? Did William have brother named David VANCE and Robert VANCE who were early residents of Belmont County?

WILSON, SALTER, VARNER, BUTCHER, BORING, POWELL - David WILSON and Lula SALTER had one son Samuel Zane WILSON and at least three daughters known only by their married names from Samuel's obit, Mrs Harry BUTCHER, Mrs. George BORING, Mrs. Joseph POWELL. David lived on Seabrights Lane in Martins Ferry in the 1920s. He had a housekeeper named Lula HILL who took care of his children while he worked as a coal miner. His daughters had red hair. Samuel married Elsie VARNER 18 Oct 1921. They lived with Samuel's father for the few years they were married. They had three children before they divorced. There was no contact between Samuel and his children. Samuel served in WWII Army as did his oldest son Zane. Samuel died in Fairmont WV 20 June 1949. Any cousins out there? Would very much like some idea of where this family came from and where it went.

They had 8 kids among them: John Wesley(1840-1912), Margaret A.(1842-1914), Jacob Ross(1845-1920), Emma, William, William(1853-abt 1910) and Willis(1855-1866). In 1840 they were enumerated at Kirkwood. By 1850 they were in Coshocton County, then to Iowa in 1852 and finally Cass County Nebraska in 1858.
