........"Bethesda native, Dr. Richard H. Zellers, 58, of Kenton, died Thursday, November 30, 1989, at his home. He was born May 1, 1931 in Bethesda, a son of Harold and Bernice Talbott Zellers of Bethesda.
........"He was a retired Kenton dentist, a member of the First United Methodist Church, and member and past exalted ruler of BPOE 157, and the Moose Lodge, all of Kenton.
........"Surviving, in addition of his parents, are his wife, Elaine Minder Zellers; one daughter, Toni Zellers of Marion and one son, Rick Zellers of Kenton.
........"Services were held Sunday, December 3, at the Schindewolk-Stevens- Stout Funeral Home in Kenton. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Grove Cemetery in Kenton. Elks services were conducted on Saturday at 7 p.m."

TOLBERT, E. F.

The following is from the Barnesville Whetstone, Wed., 5 Jul 1916:

........"Following an illness covering several years with heart trouble, the death of Mr. E.F. Tolbert, a highly respected citizen of South Chestnut street, occurred at his home Friday, June 30. Mr. Tolbert was well known in this community, having lived here for quite a number of years. By occupation he was a teamster, and we doubt if a more industrious, or trustworthy man could be found anywhere, when health permitted. He was 65 years of age and is survived by several children, his wife passing away several years ago.
........"The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was made at Bethel church-yard, Rev. R.W. Stancill conducting the services."

........"Frank E. Damsel, 67, 700 Bond Ave., Barnesville, died Sat., Sept. 12, 1987 at University Hospital, Columbus. He was born in Barnesville June 3, 1920, a son of the late Paul and Margaret Burkhart Damsel.
........"The former owner-operator of the Damsel Ice Cream Company of Barnesville, he was a certified public accountant; member of the board of trustees of Barnesville First Presbyterian Church and Barnesville Hospital.
........"Mr. Damsel was a director of the First National Bank of Barnesville; member of Barnesville Elks Lodge 1699, Seneca Sportsmen's Club, Masonic Lodge 496 F & AM of Martins Ferry, Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge and Columbus, Aladdin Temple of Columbus, American Legion Post 888 of Columbus, National Rifle Assoc., Photographic Society of America; and a veteran of World War II.
........"Surviving are his wife, Mabel Lee Damsel; two daughters, Mrs. John (Paula) Robinson of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. and Denise Whaley of Columbus; and a granddaughter, Johanna Robinson.
........"Services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home with Dr. Richard Eshler officiating. Burial was made in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville.
........"Memorial contributions may be made to Barnesville Hospital or First Presbyterian Church, Barnesville."

WESLEY, Mrs. Estella (Lee)

........"Mrs. Estella Lee Wesley died Thursday, March 10, 1977, at her home in Hendrysburg, at the age of 92. She was born July 19, 1884, a daughter of the late John and Emma Taylor Lee.
........"Friends were received at the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home in Morristown. Services, conducted by Rev. Tom Detling, were held there Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial was made in Hope Cemetery, Hendrysburg. Mrs. Wesley was a member of the Morristown United Methodist Church.
........"She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Wesley, a son, Woodrow, and a daughter, Vera; four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Bowles of the home; Mrs. Faye Rowley of Morristown and Mrs. Viola Ault of Newark; one grandson and two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews."

TALBOTT, Mrs. Iantha

The following is from the Wilson Scrapbook; dated ca 28 May 1891:

........"Mrs. Iantha Talbott, a prominent lady of Bethesda, and wife of the late John Talbott, died at her home in that place on Monday, at the advanced age of seventy-six years. The deceased had been a remarkedly strong, active woman until about three weeks ago, when she was prostrated by paralysis, from which she neverr rallied. Mrs. Talbott was a devoted member of the Disciples' church, and while health and strength was given her did all she could for the good of those with whom she was associated. In her home she was a loving, devoted mother, and leaves seven worthy sons and two estimable daughters to mourn the loss of a noble, christian mother. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning. Interment at Ebenezer.

SAFFELL, William W.

William W. Saffell Died At His Home
........"William W. Saffell died Monday morning at his home west of Hendrysburg following an illness of several months. He was born March 16, 1876, the son of Charles and Nancy Talbott Saffell and spent his entire life in that community. His survivors include two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Sarah Bishop of Barnesville, Miss Rosie Saffell and Clarence Saffell of the home.
........"Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Sells Funeral Home at Hendrysburg, conducted by the Rev. Dean McElroy, pastor of the Methodist Church at Hendrysburg. Burial was made in Hendrysburg Cemetery."

LEE, Charles Edward

........"Services for Charles Edward Lee, 78, of Morristown, were held Tuesday from the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home in Morristown with Rev. Richard Bishop officiating. Burial was made in the Union Cemetery there.
........"A retired antique dealer, Mr. Lee died Saturday, Dec. 15, 1984 at Martins Ferry Extended Care Center. He was born Aug. 15, 1906 at Morristown, son of the late W.O. and Anna Medley Lee. He was also the retired owner-operator of the L & M Dairy and was a member of the Morristown United Methodist Church. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II. He leaves his wife, the former Theresa Valenbois; one son, John of St. Clairsville; six sisters, Mrs. Elsie Majors[sic], Mrs. Martha Barbe, Mrs. Howard (Tatsie) Wilhelm, all of Morristown, Mrs. Bertha Pittigrew[sic] and Mrs. Emma Calmbacher, both of St. Clairsville; Mrs. Frank (Mabel) Damsel of Barnesville; and one brother, Richard Lee of Pittsburgh, Pa. "A brother, Albert, died in 1983."

KIRK, Dora (Tolbert)

The following is from the Barnesville Enterprise, 10 Mar 1955; page 6:

Mrs. Dora Kirk, 85, Passed Away Tuesday
........"Dora Tolbert Kirk, age 85, died Tuesday evening, March 8, at 11:30 at the McCarthy Nursing Home in St. Clairsville. Mrs. Kirk had been in ill health for several years and seriously ill the past three weeks. She was a daughter of Berkley Fenton and Minerva Milleson[sic] Tolbert and was born on a farm near the Bethesda-Barnesville road, September 19, 1869 near Ebenezer Cemetery.
........"On March 7, 1906 she was united in marriage to James William Kirk by the Rev. Harry Patterson, pastor of the Christian church where she had been a member of Cove Christian Church, transferring there in 1921. Mrs. Kirk was preceded in death by her husband, June 12, 1947. Mr. Kirk will be remembered as a veteran steel worker and worked various places over the country before joining the Weirton Steel Co., in 1913 where he worked the balance of his life. Surviving are two sons, Harry and Warren of Weirton, two step-children, Walter Kirk of Aliquippa, Pa., and Mrs. Helen Porterfield of Bridgeport, one brother, Ross Tolbert of Bethesda and two grandsons.
........"Friends are being received at the Steele & Wolfe Funeral Home in Weirton where services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock, with Rev. C.F. Evans, pastor of the Christian church officiating. Burial will be made in Ebenezer cemetery at Bethesda."

........"BETHESDA -- Hallie Talbott, 83, of near Bethesda died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday (Oct.7) at a Cambridge hospital. A retired farmer, he was born at Speidel, son of Israel and Rebecca Johnson Talbott.
........"Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Helen Whitehouse of Central City and Mrs. Gloria Richards of St. Clairsville; and three nephews, Irvin and Paul Wharton of Short Creek and Raymond Marmie of St. Clairsville. Services will be held at 1 p.m. (DST) Sunday at Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home in Bethesda with Rev. Gary Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Speidel Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. (DST) today at the funeral home."

BARNES, Mrs. Mildred L. (Griffin)

The following is from the Wilson Scrapbook; dated ca 31 Jan 1935:

........"Mrs. Mildred L. Barnes, one of the older and highly esteemed residents of our town, passed away Wednesday night, following an illness of a few weeks due to infirmities and two nervous shocks coming so closely together, her son-in-law, Mr. Ray Depew dying Nov. 29, and her daughter, Mrs. A.O.C. Ahrendts, Jan. 9. The shock was too great for her condition and she took her bed in a few days after the daughter's death, and had gradually declined and weakened until the end.
........"Mrs. Barnes was born April 26, 1844, in Prince William county, Virginia, and was a daughter of Anna Lee and Jesse Griffin. When seven years of age, she came with her family to this community where she has since lived and was widely known.
........"She was twice married: the first time to Levin Fowler, and to this union two children were born and both survive her: Mr. George D. Fowler of South Broadway, and Miss Nettie Fowler in the home. Mr. Fowler preceded her in death many years. She was married the second time to Mr. Otho Barnes, also deceased, and two daughters blessed this union: Mrs. Ray Depew and Mrs. A.O.C. Ahrendts, the latter preceding her mother in death two weeks. Besides the two daughters, Mrs. Fowler and Mrs. Depew, and the son, Mr. George Fowler, she leaves six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one step-son, Mr. Willard Barnes of Barnesville.
........"At the age of twelve years, Mrs. Barnes united with the Methodist church at Bethel, but upon moving to Barnesville, she transferred her membership to the First Methodist church. She was a worthy and zealous member during her life. She was one of the pioneers of Belmont county and it was a pleasure to converse with her on the history of our community and besides she kept up to date on all affairs of the present day. Her mind was clear and functioned better than many who were years younger. She was most hospitable and affable in her home and had many friends everywhere.
........"Funeral services will be held in the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by her pastor, Rev. S.E. LaFollette, and burial will be made in Crestview Memorial Park."

TOLBERT, Miss Annie L.

The following is from the Wilson Scrapbook; dated ca. 3 Nov 1892:

........"The death of Miss Annie L. Tolbert, youngest daughter of Wm. Tolbert, of Bethesda, occurred last Saturday morning, after a short illness of pneumonia. She was about sixteen years of age and had lived with her grandmother during most of her life, as her mother died when but an infant. She was a sweet, lovable girl, with a bright sunshiny nature that made friends of all of whom she came in contact. She attended school until three days before she died, and the untimely death of one just on the threshold of a promising life has filled her many friends with sorrow. Funeral services were held Sunday after noon and were attended by a large number of relatives and friends. The deceased was a niece of Mrs. J.H. Colvig, of this place."

LINN, Mrs. Amanda (Tolbert)

The following is from the Wilson Scrapbook:

"Mrs. Amanda Linn, wife of Mr. Frank Linn, of this place, occurred at her home in the southeast part of town, Tuesday noon, after a protracted illness from consumption. Mrs. Linn was a noble christian woman, and through all the pain and suffering that she was called upon to bear, she was ever patient and happy, and ready to do all she could for those about her. For weeks her sick room has been, as it were, illuminated by the sunlight of heaven, and her soul filled to overflowing with the joy that passeth understanding. She talked constantly of her departure as calmly as if she were going on a visit, and each day as she bade her friends good-by or good-night, she assured them that if she should be gone when they came again, she wanted to meet them in the better land. Funeral services will be held Thursday, conducted by Dr. C.E. Manchester. The remains will be taken to Ebenezer for interment. The bereaved husband, whose home in now left desolate, has the sympathy of our people in the loss of his noble wife. The deceased was a sister of Mr. Erastus Tolbert, of this place, and a daughter of the late John Tolbert, of Bethesda. She leaves a number of worthy brothers and sisters to mourn her departure."

LEE, William Oscar "Yank"

Morristown Man, William O. Lee, Long Ill, Dies
........"William Oscar (Yank) Lee, retired huckster and grocery store operator at Morristown, died Wednesday night, May 8 at 10 o'clock at his home following an illness of the past two and a half years. Mr. Lee was 80 years of age. He was born near Morristown, on June 10, 1882, a son of John and Ella Taylor Lee. He was a member of the Morristown Methodist Church and Kirkwood Lodge No. 446 F & AM. His wife, Anna Medley Lee preceded him in death in 1949.
........"Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Elsie Major, Mrs. Martha Barbe, Mrs. Lorell Wilhelm all of Morristown, Mrs. Bertha Pettigrew of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Emma Calmbacher of St. Clairsville, Mrs. Mabel Damsel of Barnesville three sons, Albert Lee of Barnesville, Charles and Dick Lee of Morristown; six grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Estella Wesley of Hendrysburg, Mrs. Nellie Bowles of Columbus, Mrs. Viola Ault of Newark and Mrs. Faye Rowley of Morristown.
........"Friends were received at the Barr-Milner Funeral Home in Morristown, where final rites were held Saturday afternoon at 2 (DST). Rev. Donald DeVoe and Rev. Lester Farmer officiated and burial was made in the Morristown Union Cemetery. Masonic services were held Friday evening at 7:30 (DST) at the funeral home.

C.R. Talbott, 89, Dies At Rest Home
........"Charles Ross Talbott, 89, retired interior decorator, died Sunday, June 20th at 10 :45 a.m. at the Harris Rest Home in Morristown. For the past eight months he had been making his home with a daughter, Mrs. William Zellers, South Main Street, Bethesda.
........"He was born on March 20, 1876 near New Castle a son of Berkley and Minerva Milhoan[sic] Talbott. In 1902 he was married to Dora Mae Powell who precededhim in death in 1963. He was a life time resident of the Bethesda vicinity and a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Bethesda.
........"Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. William Zellers, Bethesda; one grandson Dr. Richard Zellers, Kenton, Ohio; and two great grandchildren. One son, Glen in[sic] deceased. The remains were taken to the Latham Funeral Home in Bethesda where funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2, conducted by the Reverend Gary Ballard, minister of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and Brother William Cook of South Main Street Church of Christ. AHRENDTS, Marinda (Barnes)

The following is from the Barnesville Whetstone; 10 Jan 1935:

........"The death of Mrs. A.O.C. Ahrendts of West Main street occurred in the Beerwick[sic] hotel in Cambridge, at 12:30 Wednesday morning, 'following a two weeks serious illness, due to several years of failing health.
........"Marinda Barnes Ahrendts was born near Barnesville, Aug. 28, 1877 and was a daughter of Otho and Mildred Barnes. When quite young, she came with her family to Barnesville and was educated in and graduated from the public schools. She prepared herself for a teacher and taught in the local schools for six years. On June 30, 1900, she was married to A.O.C. Ahrendts,president of the Universal Potteries in Cambridge, who with one son, Richard Ahrendts of Cambridge, survives her. She united with the First Methodist church when a small girl and all through her life has been an active worker in the church wherever she lived. She also took part in civic affairs, using her efforts and ability for the general good and entertainment of others. After her marriage she was located at Marietta and other Ohio points where she was connected with the worthwhile activities, and at Niles she became a member of the Ida McKinley order of Eastern Star, retaining her membership at her death. She was a capable, friendly and likeable woman and had a host of friends. In later years, she had been a resident of Cambridge where Mr Ahrendts business was centered, but having strong tie for her nativ hometown, she and her husband divided their recent years in Barnesville.
........"Besides her husband and son, she leaves her mother, Mrs. Mildred Griffin Barnes; a twin sister, Mrs. Mame Depew; one half-sister, Miss Nettie Fowler; two half-brothers, Messrs. George D. Fowler, Willard Barnes, Barnesville.
........"The remains were brought from Cambridge in the Campbell ambulance to the Campbell Funeral Home Wednesday for embalming, after which they were taken to the Ahrendts home on West Main street where funeral service will be conducted by Rev. S.E. LaFollete of the First Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:30. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park."

TALBOTT, W. A. , Sr.

The following is from, Republican Press; 18 Oct 1884; [located at Coshocton, Ohio Public library]:

........"The Barnesville Whetstone gives the following account of the death of W. A. Talbott, Sr., a prominent citizen of that place, and the father of Mrs. J. C. Beckett, of this city: Just as we go to press the news of the death of Mr. W. A. Talbott, Sr. reaches us, which occurred at three o'clock this morning, at the home of his son, Mr. W. A. Talbott, Jr., who lives on North Chestnut Street, after nearly three years of gradual wearing away from the infirmities of old age. Mr. Talbott was born in Newtown, Va., in 1811, and came to Barnesville in 1832, where for six years he served as clerk in the dry goods store of Judge John Davenport.
........"On Oct 14, 1834 -- just sixty years tomorrow -- he married Miss Rebecca C. Davenport, daughter of Judge Davenport, and in 1838 moved to Batesville, where he formed a partnership in the dry goods business with his brother-in-law, Mr. John A. Davenport, which continued until 1845, when he came back to Barnesville and entered the firm of Davenport & Talbott, where he remained until 1854. At that time he began business for himself in the building now occupied and owned by J. W. Judkins, conducting a general dry goods business until about the year 1872. Mr. Talbott was a thorough dry goods merchant, having embarked in the business as clerk at Sheperdstown, Va., at the age of eighteen, and his experience with the trade continued without interruption from that time till 1872.
........"Mr. Talbott has been a member of the M.E. Church since 1830, during which time he has been a valuable official in its different departments, and during the days of his activity, was never found absent from his place. To Mr. and Mrs. Talbott were born 12 children, ten of whom, together with his aged wife, survive him. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Dr. W. H. Locke, and the remains of this christian gentleman will be laid to rest in Greenmount."

WALTON, Mrs. Martha L. (Talbott)

The following is from the Wilson Scrapbook; dated ca. 4 Jul 1929:

........"The death of Mrs. Martha L. Walton, a former resident here, occurred at her home on Auburn avenue, Columbus, Sunday night after a few weeks' illness due to infirmities and complications. The deceased was 88 years of age and was born at Williamsburg, Ohio coming to Barnesville when but two years of age. She was a daughter of William A.and Rebecca Talbott, pioneers and a prominent family here and was the widow of Attorney James W. Walton, who passed away thirty-two years ago.
........"Following his death, the family went to New York City where they lived for a number of years, moving to Columbus in 1918 where she spent the remainder of her days. She was reared in the Methodist faith, the family being among the leaders of that denomination in Barnesville and she always took an active part in church work in her younger life and as long as she was able to do so.
........"Mrs. Walton is survived by three sons and one daughter: William T. Walton, Portland, Oregon; James Sibley Walton, Denver, Colorado; Charles C. and Miss Mary Walton in the home, Columbus. She also leaves four brothers and two sisters: W. A. Talbott, Cleveland; Charles Talbott, California; George Talbott, Urbana, O.; W. R. Talbott, Winchester, Va.; Mrs. Maggie Frasier, Chicago; Mrs. Rebecca Beckett, Cambridge.
........"The remains were brought to Barnesville Monday evening and on Tuesday afternoon at the Campbell Funeral Home on West Main street, funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. M. Wolfe of the First Methodist church and burial was made in Greenmount. The deceased is an aunt of Mrs. J. W. Galloway and Miss Emma Talbott and also a relatives[sic] of William and Edwin Hutchison."

........"BETHESDA -- George E. Tolbert, 80, of Barnesville, died Thursday morning, Oct. 9, 1986, at Barnesville Hospital. Born May 1, 1906, at Bethesda, he was a son of Clarence and Bertha Pittman Tolbert. Mr. Tolbert was a retired carpenter and a member of First Christian Church of Barnesville, Elks and Moose lodges of Barnesville and Bethesda VFW. Surviving are his wife, Ellen Kemp Tolbert; one son, Fred Tolbert of St. Clairsville; one daughter, Roxanne Kennedy of St. Clairsville; two brothers, Clinton of Barnesville and Harry of Crown Point, Ind.; and one sister Mary Louise Cross of Flushing, Mich.
........"Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home in Bethesda, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, the Rev. William Worchester officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda. Moose services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home."

TALBOTT, Margaret Logan (Wood)

The following is from the Barnesville Enterprise; 5 Aug 1948:

Former Resident Dies on Visit Here
........"Barnesville was greatly shocked Wednesday morning when it was learned that Mrs. Walter Talbott, at one time a resident of this city, who, had come Tuesday evening for a short visit, had died very suddenly at 9 o'clock the same evening.
........"Mrs. Talbott had accompanied her sister, Mrs. E. S. Ely, and niece, Mrs. Ely Bradfield, of Winchester, to Barnesville for a visit, and she herself had planned to go on to Cambridge and Akron on business, and to see friends there. She was staying with her niece, Miss Emma Talbott of East Church Street, and feeling tired from her long trip had decided to retire early. Sitting on the bed, and still chatting with her niece, she fell over dead. The remains were taken to the Campbell Funeral Home, and Campbells left Wednesday noon for Winchester to take the remains to the Jones Funeral Home there.
........"Mrs. Talbott had had a heart condition for some years, but had continued an active, busy life, spending more and more time helping others. She had been a very beautiful young woman, and had kept much of her beauty and charm. Mrs. Talbott was the former Margaret Logan Wood, a daughter of Daniel and Miriam Nichols Wood. She was born in Frederick County, Virginia, and her early life and the last twenty or more years of her life had been spent there.
........"After her marriage to Walter Roe Talbott of Barnesville, they made their home here for a number of years, and while living in Barnesville their son Daniel, was born, and died in infancy. They then moved to Akron where they spent many years and where Mr. Talbott was very successful in real estate and law After his retirement they returned to Winchester. Mr. Talbott died a number of years ago. Mrs. Talbott is survived by a daughter, Miriam, of the home, and two sisters, Miss Mary Wood of Millbank, and Mrs. E. S. Ely of Winchester, also by a number of nieces and nephews."

The following is from the Wilson Scrapbook:

........"Funeral services for Miss Mary R. Walton, Columbus, formerly of Barnesville, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Columbus. She died Friday after a lingering illness.
........"Miss Walton was born in Barnesville, the daughter of James W. and Martha L. Walton. After the death of her father the family moved to New York City in 1897. Since 1919 Miss Walton lived in Columbus. For about 17 years she was employed in the state headquarters of the American Legion, leaving that service several months ago because of poor health. At an early age she became a member of the Methodist church in Barnesville.
........"Surviving are three brothers, William T. and James S. Walton, Portland, Ore., and Charles C. Walton, Columbus, with whom she made her home. She also leaves the following cousins in Cambridge, Mrs. Fred w. Lane, Mrs. T. E. Amos and George A. Beckett. She had many friends here and in Barnesville who are saddened by her death."
