Welcome to our website. We span the Kapiti Coast on the Western side of the North Island, from Paekakariki in the South to Te Horo in the north. With a membership of over 230, we welcome those researching their ancestors and local history from beginners to long-timers. The area has a rich history from the original Maori communities to early European settlers. Bushclad Kapiti Island dominates the coastal scenery, famous as a stronghold of the chief Te Rauparaha, now a marine reserve and bird sanctuary and theme of our logo. The Kapiti Coast has become a popular retirement centre and it is no surprise therefore to find an increasing interest in genealogy, although that interest is not mutually exclusive to the older age group. We celebrated our 25th Birthday in May 2009 so the Branch has a well -established history and several of the earlier members remain an invaluable source of help and assistance. Genealogy is about sharing, whether it is research techniques or investigation
tools, information sources, family names or countries and regions of
interest. Access to local, national and international resources, regular
meetings, help desks, newsletters and activities of interest, are used
to encourage this pooling of expertise and interest. The Alison Procter
Family History Centre at the Paraparaumu Library houses Branch resources
If you are not already a member and have a yearning
to find out more about those elusive ancestors, then why not join a
group in this search. Visitors are always welcome at our meetings.
